Daniel has crossed the line 100%. Her attitude is hardly offensive its just hypocritical(I'm no fan of hers fwiw), the only thing offensive is Daniels mouth in this scenario.

All the love for Negreanu here is strange. Dislike whomever you want, but using that word (especially when you are one of the biggest names in the game) should be considered unacceptable. Hopefully, he was misquoted, but assuming he wasn't, he should apologize. This kind of thing doesn't make him look good, and this rivalry has gotten old anyway.

Whatever, he doesn't like her and he isn't afraid to show it. Theres trash talk like this in sports all the time, and it's often a lot worse. I don't see why there can't be some trash talk in poker.

I know it seems weird to Americans. But Brits, at least, are far more comfortable throwing around the c-word than we are. Whether it's "standard," I'd say no. But it's considered unusually offensive in America, and just another swear word in England. For comparison, in America, "motherf*****" gets thrown around fairly easily. I've visited friends in other countries where the term for "sisterf****" is basically the worst thing you can call somebody, and its ill-advised use has gotten people killed.

Of course, Negreanu is Canadian. Somebody needs to ask him whether he meant to use it like a Brit, or like an American.

On the issue of Annie Duke, here's the thing: if you think it's offensive to women's equality to have a Women's Championship, why would you call yourself the best female poker player in the world? Both of those formulations reinforce the idea that women are not as good as their male counterparts. In games of physical prowess, there's a good reason for that: the women are few and far between that can beat a top male athlete. But there is zero reason to credit the assumption that men are naturally better at poker. Even if we buy into (dubious) theories about guys being better at math, poker also has a lot to do with reading people (I don't hear anybody saying that Ivey is the best because he's able to do calculus at the table). All the (similarly dubious) research says women are better than men at figuring out other people's emotions.

But DN is probably giving her a hard time less because of that, and more because she seems like a c***.

Its not that people find certain words offensive or not, its the context in which they're used. Like I would call my friend a **** if he did something feminine in a jokey manner but I would never call a female friend that in any situation or even say it their company, its plain out misogynistic. In this case its 100% offensive, especially from a public figure representing a huge company. TBH the support in this thread for DN doesn't surprise me one bit.

I dunno; in America, if I dislike a woman, there are all manner of epithets that just won't work. I cannot enumerate them here, but if you've ever had occasion to deride a woman, you probably know some of them. Conversely, I don't call men "bitch," and instead choose epithets that seem more appropriate.

Calling her a f***** c*** does not seem to be a normal DN thing to do, can we agree on that? I would NOT be shocked to find they published it wrong whatsoever. I was interviewed a couple of dozen times in relation to some work I was doing years ago, and I was misquoted 95% of the time (most were small, unimportant misquotes, but just the frequency of misquotes was astonishing), and these were from actual newspapers and magazines, not a random poker website.
