So let me get this straight...

Leatherass tries to practice good game selection, feels he is running bad, complains about it in his blog, and has a few choice words for an idiot who slowrolls him.

For this he gets flamed?

WAT?

I'm still kind of trying to digest his concession that companies need to pay $15M to retain executive "top talent," where said "talent" constitutes the fraternity of remorseless scumbags who didn't have the foresight to realize that their securities fraud/tax fraud/predatory practices/flagrant abuse of the business judgment rule just might carry the incidental consequence of running the economy into the ground. I've had the pleasure of dealing with some of this "talent," and in a number of cases, their only "talent" was being born with silver spoons in their mouths.

On the other hand, if we want to reward executives for the minimizing catastrophic losses for which they are largely responsible in the first place, then sure... tough to argue with that insane logic. What would we do without the John Thains of the world to remind us how fortunate we are that they are at the reins? Intelligent people are a dime a dozen in the corporate world and politics. Intelligent people with a conscience are the only "talent" really worth retaining.

In fairness, Leatherass' larger point aims at deconstructing the bigwig mindset, but I just couldn't get past his characterization of curbing losses as an "art" in light of how those losses accrued in the first place. I don't think taxpayers should fund bonuses to corrupt intelligent people who are ultimately forced to use their intelligence to fix what they created.

Sorry for the rant, but it's this kind of elitist thinking -- that there are a relative few worthy of tackling our complex economic problems -- that makes Leatherass sense of entitlement to greater profits as one of poker's elite much less surprising... but no less disturbing. If we all got compensated at the rate we felt justified by our efforts then we'd all be gajillionaires. Just like John Thain, who actually did get to set his own rate.

I don't get all the hate for Leatherass here. Sure he whines when he runs bad but so does most everyone else.

The only reason I could see for someone to hate him would be that he is going to take 1+mil per year out of the poker economy for the next 10 years.

I actually assumed IP/DIH would chime in in this read ("chime in in"... typing that seems awkward). I have a feeling his blog was written in the same fit of passion as LA's, it just manifested in a different way.

But srsly, if we're gonna quote Emerson:

"Win as if you were used to it, lose as if you enjoyed it for a change."

"Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted."

"For every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind."

"To laugh often and much:
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children,
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others,
to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived.
This is to have succeeded."

Ancient chinese proverb,

"The honour isn't in having never fallen, but rising after one falls."

Oh well, I whine constantly about poker and how I feel about it... it's all because I read "Poker Like the Pros" first.. which is the ****tiest book anyone can ever read ever, and then it makes you think and act like Hellmuth to boot.

... I'm lucky someone hasn't shot me.

I think the hate comes from people playing with him on a regular basis, and who can attest how much of a leech he is.

Also he wrote that he "doesnt have any time to work on his game off the tables", which is VERY bad when you're making videos for a training site. He also stated the if he were to 6-8 table and turned his mind only to poker, his winrate would destroy absolutely any mid-high stakes grinder.

cliffnotes: LA is delusional and cocky and thinks he's the greatest, when in reality who just leeches off the other regs who keep the games running.

PS: I have nothing against LA, just stating what I read.

Also, Illman, gambler had KQo.
