The communication from them has been top notch, and its evident they are working in a coordinated manner, and getting their message across in an effective way.

This is a historical time, and there will be a lot of learning done after the dust settles, but it is not hard to see how the US and Canada will fare in that regard.

Same here our Alberta one has been fantastic. Just the facts and was honest about the testing being limited. I think most provinces are doing the right thing and have the health officers speak frequently

There is no question that Trumps Press conferences and Trudeaus are night and day

The weird thing is Canada's Health Officer Tam predicted all this in a paper she released for Health Canada in 2008 on what we need to be prepared for

Really, I've been enjoying the US's and they actually ease my anxiety about this situation more.I find they are more informative of what they are doing to combat the virus and the experts speak a lot more. Every time I watch Trudeau's it's the same repeated message of staying inside and promising more money for people and businesses.

Oh I agree about Trudeau but I am thinking more the provinces. They let the health ministers do the talking. Rob Ford will be releasing their modules today and by the look on his face yesterday it could be scary.

Trudeau keeps side stepping that issue with excuses.

Personally I think he should shut the country down for 14 days.
  • No air Travel
  • Close provincail borders
  • Only Essential Businesses a small list
  • Groceries and Pharmacy single shopper only

The USA is screwed The Georgia governor yesterday I did not know it could be transferred that way and Desantis had to be shamed into letting the cruise ships dock.

Don't get me going on 3M

That's on purpose though. If you want the health stuff, listen to Tam's briefings. Trudeau is deliberately NOT trying to step on those toes, he is doing the big picture messaging and anouncements of policy, and unlike the US where the two are being put together into one press conference which is trumpian disaster every ****ing day.

Lol yes all things trump have to be bad!

I think Trudeau was doing them solo because he was quarantined when they started. Makes much more sense to have one press conference with government and experts so there is continuity in the messaging. Then people just have to watch one press conference and not have to watch 2 or 3 different ones.

There was a family of 4 getting groceries yesterday when I was there, I don't know what's wrong with people. My kids haven't been in a store in over 3 weeks. Definitely agree with shutting everything down for atleast 14 days. Not good numbers from Ford at all today.

I don't get why everyone is making a big deal about 3M. Obviously they have to look out for the people in their country first.

What do you mean by “shutting everything down”? Like, literally everything? Eff that ish. I’d rather play Russian Roulette than starve myself. And there’s zero guarantee that things would open back up after those 14 days. I don’t know why people insist on wanting to give the government so much power when they don't really know what they're doing. Also the doctors work for the government, and while I won't accuse them of being liars, they're still only human beings who know where their paycheques come from and they don't want to cause mass panic amongst the people, and therefore they'll never be completely forthright with their information and projections.

Yeah them doctors and nurses. Many of them sign contracts that if they talk to the press they are fired. Frick imagine sending soldiers into battle without a helmut or gun.
Frick many of them a bathroom break is a luxury.

Kudos on Trudeau tactically letting Trump know you want to stop sending us masks well you do realize 100's of health care workers from Canada cross the border to work in your hospitals

ugh we were denied for CCB. Hey trudeau we are permanent residents again, please kindly ignore our stint in the US it wasn't our fault, give us the sweet free monies please. At least it sounds like it will be retroactive and I'm pretty sure they are just wrong and we do qualify.

Yup my sister in law is a nurse and according to my brother is under strict orders not to, for instance, tell me about conditions there.

Gotta wait till Thursday. Did you phone or use the CRA website?

website. But this isn't actually connected to COVID19, we've actually just been trying to get normal CCB but we had some issues (like didn't file my wifes canadian income taxes while in the US as she has no income to report, but you have to file continuously to get CCB and now we've done that) so took us a while and just a coincidence we got the notice on the same day as the covid19 stuff. We were just hoping we'd get the normal CCB and then the expanded as well but we still have nothing.

Jason Kenney had his press conference today and it was not a pretty one
Realistically a shutdown till end of May at best. 25% unemployment and a 20 billion plus deficit. Sobering but at least he was honest
$3.00 a barrel of oil and possibly worse. Though the USA and Canada are looking at tariffs on oil imports

The outlook for Canada as a whole for 2020 not good.

I'm thinking that canada is going to be health-wise better than most 1st world countries and worse economically because of how dependent it is on oil, and other resource extraction to lesser extents and is uniquely and completely ****ed on that front

I agree Ontario with all its Auto jobs is gonna hurt, Bombardier not going to be doing well and BC and tourism...

Though our bailout package is so much smarter. The USA is giving it to folks that do not lose their jobs which is baffling

4,000,000 applications so far

Wow, so hard putting some courses online. Your gold plated DB pension plan is done for after this is all said and done. Sure you'll get something at retirement but it will be a fraction of what you think it will be.

I have friends with small businesses that may last a month but two I am not sure past that. I personally see this lasing a minimum 4-6 weeks but who knows.

Though I have to say our Health Care system is doing a great job and other provinces seems to be doing the same.

I think the Americans are in deep trouble and soon will claim # 1 status on deaths and cases
How is our healthcare system doing great? Canada projected 20k deaths today while US projecting 60K at 10X the population.

If I am a betting man the USA will have 10 times more deaths than Canada plus as they put you in coma before they hook up the ventilator you do not have to ask the question " How much will this cost"?

So you are willing to bet the country that has 3x lower population density, an average BMI that is 11 points lower, and a lower Gini Coefficient will have lower per capita deaths?

You really are a gambler, aren't you?

Next, you will probably want to go out on a giant ledge and wager that light travels faster than sound.

Think he is just willing to bet that the country with the better health care infrastructure, that is also managing it properly (both the medical side and government funding side) will fare better than the mess that is the USA, but you can always base the difference on BMI if you prefer. Perhaps Trump will have a bigly suggestion this weekend on what to take to lower BMI, while pondering a May 1 grand opening. Can't hurt, nothing to lose.

All the best.

People that dont have health Insurance in the US will have the medical bills covered by the federal government.
