Think he is just willing to bet that the country with the better health care infrastructure, that is also managing it properly (both the medical side and government funding side) will fare better than the mess that is the USA, but you can always base the difference on BMI if you prefer. Perhaps Trump will have a bigly suggestion this weekend on what to take to lower BMI, while pondering a May 1 grand opening. Can't hurt, nothing to lose.

No kidding. A good chunk of the cases here were from people coming back from the US or visiting from the US.

Ideally the border will be closed until a vaccine is discovered, otherwise all the church going faithful will want to be visiting here May 1st when the US opens up again.

Pretty sure they announced the other day during the press conference they would cover all uninsured. I have friends that are nurses here in Alberta. From the stories I have heard there is no way majority of the US is as bad as it is here right now.

If you look at his posting history it appears he is a MAGA wearing Trump supporter, which is rare, though does exist in Canada. I saw a house with a Trump flag earlier this year, and it made me chuckle a bit. Perhaps it was that dude.

You probably would not. Most Canadians would, although many of the hallway spaces that some US patients are in have a nice view of the refrigerated trailers nearby, so that is festive. The ER rooms in the US are a mess as that is where all the uninsured go for all types of treatments, and that puts a strain on their system.

Seems you think the US is superior at everything, you should consider moving there when the border opens up again. Land of the free (except if you get sick).

Not everything, but their health care and system of government is. I've thought about moving, who knows I might have to when this is all over. I always said if I won the lottery Tampa Bay is where I would move.

I don't really understand this comment. It's true that millionaires can buy a higher quality of treatment, the biggest factor being able to eliminate wait times to get say a new knee or hip. But cost IS an issue for most of us. Canadian doctors are, in general, extremely competent. For instance, at no point did it cross my mind that for the multiple surgeries and radiation I had for my cancer that i would be better off in NYC than Toronto. Perhaps if i had unlimited money I could have paid for literally the best in the world, but realistically for a middle class person I got extremely good, wordclass care. And I didn't pay a dime.

My guess here is that most of this is wait-time issue, not thinking US doctors are, for instance, more likely to save your life than a Canadian doctor. But you can fly down, get your cataracts removed or knee replaced or boobs done, and fly back over a weekend.

That is one way we could improve our system. Lets say you need a knee replacement surgery and Alberta Health's cost is $14,500 and waiting list is one year. Well you can get it done in the Grand Cayman for $17,500 allow that individual to claim to AHC for the $14,500. Yes only the rich can do this but you create more spaces for others that cant. I understand why you can not allow for profit in Canada.

Yeah not a fair comparison at all. Being the Premier of a province in a country of 30 million people is a bit different than being the President of a country of 300 million and 50 states. But maybe next time just say thanks good job Alberta. Rather than trying to make some back handed compliment that atleast they are better than Trump.

I think all the Premiers and their staff have done a great job. I think many compare Ford and Kenney to a conservative agenda and thus Trump. Keep in mind Trump is not a true conservative at all.

She wrote a paper/study in 2008 on the ongoing threat of such a virus coming from China that would cause the damage it does. She basically nailed everything that is happening now. She should have seen this coming and advised Trudeau in her position. Though maybe she did and Trudeau chose to ignore it. Than she should have gone public. Other than that she has been fine with her press conferences and telling us to wash our hands.

Also as for Mckay I thought it was irresponsible to fight against delaying the leadership vote. It actually cost him my vote in the leadership race and will vote for Erin Otoole

The way I see this, basically every western country was significantly delayed in its response. There's a lot of reasons for this, and I suppose one can quibble about how much personal responsibility any individual politician has for that. However, over the last month I've been pretty impressed (particularly in comparison to the US situation) with basically all levels of government in canada and think they have all risen to the occasion.
