Re: *** Official STTf February kakkendaaliluukku Thread - No lame BBV ***

So I got my first road bike (a Trek that is OMFG to ride compared to my old beater Schwin I grew up with) a couple of weeks ago, and have been going out on rides, building up my endurance/strength and figuring out how the f--k to ride it without hurting myself (wood knock). I can now make it to this badass vista point high above the Golden Gate bridge, and loop back down McCullough & Bunker Rds. in Sausalito before coming back around to the Bridge.

So I'm letting it go near ~30 mph near the bottom of McCullough (a downhill looping road) and a Sheriff's car is coming the other way and I think nothing of it. Come up to a stop and cruise right at ~10 mph in between cars (intersection in the middle of nowhere, pretty standard (?)) - but very safely, respectfully, etc.

I turn right and proceed, then hear from the speaker-thingy on cop cars a command to pull over. Ni-ce, they'd seen me run a stop in the rear-view (which like every bike coming down that hill does) and flipped a U-Turn. Chick and a dude, chick was taking the lead and kind of acting tough/dominant, and I was like "whatever, you got me" b/c I ran a stop and if you're going to write me a ticket, you're right/I'm wrong. After 5 minutes of "calling it in wrong" (dude was correcting her, he didn't seem to be having the best day but to his credit didn't take it out on me) I was "let go with a warning."

Further down the road, one of the bikers that had seen it while riding by mentioned that last summer, they set up a speed trap for bikes on this road - a road with no buildings, no sidewalk, and no crossings (just a 3-way stop sign where it runs into Bunker Road). Ni-ce. FWIW SF is the capital of "even if it's against the law, if you're not hurting anyone move along now." Granted it's techincally Sausalito/Marin, but still. Protecting us from ourselves maybe.

After our employee Xmas party at McCormick & Kuleto's, I rear-ended a limo full of prom kids, beyond hammered in my cousin's minivan. I was so hammered when the limo guy said he needed to call the cops, I was like ok, whatever. Once the cops come they deal with me a little then start dealing with the limo kids. At this point I realize I could get in big trouble. I give myself a big pep talk - ok Matt you need to pull yourself together, this is important. I start breathing heavy - because that works sooooooo well to fool the breathalyzer. Next thing I remember is tapping on the window - "Hey wake up." I had fallen asleep in the driver's seat.

"Have you been drinking?"
"No sir"

"I'll ask you again have you been drinking?"
"Well yeah maybe some."

[long pause, followed by long sigh]

"You see that parking spot over there? Can you pull into that spot, and I don't want to see you back in your vehicle the rest of the night. Do you understand?"

"Yes sir!"

Next day I had no idea where my cousin's car was. Luckily the limo called asking for Scott Chestnutt. I figured out they must have gotten the accident intersection confused as my name.

To put it into perspective, Sykes, some sites only offer nl 100 as the lowest HU cash game level (though that is partly because the rake on those sites is killer for hu). So 100 sngs aren't high stakes for sure. Also, you may be skewed because somepeople play lowstakes/micro here but call themselves pro but that is only because of the total action they put into play, $16 sng x 40 games/hr = $640 in action an hour so in some ways this is order of magnitude equivalent to someone who plays 6 $100 sngs/hr. I know that i neglected a lot important considerations like roi, variance...

We weren't bashing on him tbh. Just trying to humble him and put it into perspective the gap between him an a NL $5k regular which he feels is easy to get to.

Bones, awesome convo. He will prolly be on a high for like an hour cause he told you! Then he will valuestack himself and crash.

How many times have you clicked into the "*** Official DoN..." thread looking for this thread? And, how many posts do you normally read before you realize your mistake?

Maybe a couple times.

More frequently I click on the sng ---> cash thread when I think I'm opening this thread. It takes reading one post to figure out what happened.

The only problem is 5k is nosebleed stakes.

I think because poker players risk a lot of money in a given day, they lose focus of what the money relates to in real life.

Just because a person has $640 in play ($16 sngs x 40.. although I know about 0-2 ppl that can 40 table profitably) doesn't mean they are a equal stakes player then a person playing a $500HUsng.

The problem with comparing someone who 20 tables $5-6sngs and a person that 1 tables $100husng is that the person putting up $100 is risking more because you can easily go on a 5 game losing streak at the $100HUsng and lose 500$ and still be a winning player but it's nearly impossible to lose $500 at $5-6sng and call yourself a winning player.

I'm not saying $100 is a high stakes player but it's a hell of a lot higher than a person playing $5sng 20tables at a time.

$100 is on the high end of the medium stakes range when it comes to HUsngs.

100 hu's sng is equivalent to about NL 100 or NL 200. Both of which are considered very low on the midstakes range. I'm pretty sure I could teach someone that beats the 16's at a good clip to beat NL 100 at a decent rate in less than 2 hours.

Did this just yesterday. Someone was saying they should open fold AKs with 8BB 5-handed, and I said wat?

Zero. But I understand the internet can be a confusing place for us old people. Also if you use the old school Infopop skin, visited links show up as purple. This helps immensely.

Not sure since when they started creating subfolders for every day. My HHs from today went into "..\Holdem Manager\HMArchive\2009\02\23" for example.

10 players, double-or-nothing. First 5 places pay double the buyin (w/o rake), last 5 places receive nothing.

I saw an awesome movie about that. It was called "Paint Color #007 - Dry another day"
2.5h of pure drying action.
