Why was the 50/50 split decided? I've always kind of looked at them and wished they were 60/40 or 70/30 a little, but its not something I've given much thought to, but watching the 1k today and seeing guys beat similiar fields to the ST and win 50%~ of the money seemed a little disheartening
It was actually tested for a long time, with the help of ppl on 2p2 and other places.
The whole goal was to make KOs significant throughout the tournament. It fixes the main problem that regular KOs have: lack of significance KOing players. That is the purpose of PSKO. If you lower the KO payout, then the KO becomes much less significant later in the tournament.
You are supposed to grapple with decisions even at the FT about if you want to risk your chips to chase the bounty - knowing full well that the FT is very top heavy and rewards dominance and KOing your competition.
The higher you increase the ratio toward the prizepool, the more you diminish the reason for these tournaments existing.
Note, we helped with these changes before Amaya raised rake. We'd have never tried to push for what it is today if we realized we were gonna get owned by a sale of the company.
