How many seats per table? 9? 10?

ii) Is the poker room 24/7?

iii) To confirm: $6 is max rake per pot?

Thanks
1) tables for $1/2 and up are 9-handed

2) Room is 24/7

3) All games are 10% up to $5 max and rake is rounded up at $5, with $1 minimum rake every hand; $1 jackpot drop is taken at $10:

Yeah point 3 is where I was confused.

Where does $10 fit in (if $5 max rake per pot)?

If the pot is $10, they're raking 10% or $1. If the pot is $27, they'll rake $3 (3% of a rounded up $27). Max is $5, or 10% of a $50 pot.

We're not that lucky, like everything else they do, they probably ****ed it up somehow... lol I'm still taking the under 3 months it lasts though, before the fuss, anger, bad publicity and loss of even a few customers here and there just isn't worth it anymore...

The problem is, even just considering poker the THR management must realize they have ALL the action and know it's going to take a mountain to move that action away from their room. I'm not driving to Derby or elsewhere for the chance that a $2/5 game may spring up. Not to mention I'm not playing there for the privledge of buying $2 water.

Let's face it - the poker rooms are built to get our money. How they get it is up to them, but they're going to get it.

THR, Derby and the other poker rooms market to the players that don't care if it costs $2 for a bottle of water or $5 to park their car because ultimately they are playing for the recreation, not whether or not they walk away a winner. That makes me happy as those are the players I want at my table, not the 2+2 posters or the grinders looking to boost their WR by saving a few dollars on costs (like me).

So you're saying by adding a $5 parking fee they are "marketing" to recreational players and hence will bring us more fish? That's some insight right there

Won't bring in more fish, but drive away more grinders, increasing the fish:grinder ratio.

They're not using the parking fee as "marketing", it's a cash grab pure & simple.

Degens gon' degen regardless of the $5 parking fee or not. I know I'll be paying it until such time that DL & Silks has more action going.

Hardly significant. Anybody who leaves because of it honestly aren't that good to begin with. No solid winner or crusher is gonna leave because of it. We may bitch about it but like others have said what other choice do we really have. Well played, well played HR

You'd be surprised how many fish/degens are delusional about how good they are. Those players are very strange. They will bitch about bad beats, berate players, etc. And guess what they are exactly the type that will leave HR because of something as stupid as parking fee. You know why? Because they aren't actual winners and they don't think about things like table selection and soft games. If there is a table or two they will be there. That's what a degenerate does. And btw most the other rooms have better promos anyway. Wait till they realize that on their switch...

No, I'm saying they aren't concerned with the players on 2+2 gripping about it, or with losing a few grinders out of the poker room.

Oh, I've stated many times, I think it will have little to no affect on the poker room, and the poker people will probably be the least likely to bitch about it...... However it's the daily (most likely older) slot players are the people that are going to make an uproar about it. The people that go there 5-6 days a week and now have to pay an extra $30.00 a week $120.00 a month just to park, those are the ones that are going to be pissed, make a big fuss about it and will probably start a mini boycott to protest.... Whether it will make an impact that is felt, who knows, but like I said, in a casino that already has the worst paying out slots ever, over priced drinks, overpriced food, terrible poker promos, overpriced rooms and no real comps, giving people another reason not to go there, is pretty stupid and like I said before, I'm guessing with all the bad publicity, outrage from the players etc I'm guessing it will last 3 months tops... For me, I don't care about the $5.00, it's 100% the principle of it all. I'm lucky enough to pretty much live 20 min from Derby, Silks and the Rock, so unless I feel like late night weekday grinding, I'll personally be playing the other rooms. Will they notice I'm not there as much, extremely unlikely, but maybe if enough people do it, it will make them realize they can't just do whatever they want, and customers will keep taking it.

Also, exactly what figman said, the other rooms often have WAY better promos esp during non peak times.... with more money and MUCH better odds of hitting them since there are less players.... Fishies love that, and might catch on.

You're welcome to the 2/5 player that I drunkenly monkey barreled cbets in to for ~ $200 last night before I set you up for an $800 pot with your AK ;-)

Anyone have an idea what the construction in the front parking lot is? I thought that would be the free parking area for when they are charging for the garages?

Lot of hate in that post. My sample size in this room is one session, so maybe my opinion doesn't mean anything. I live just outside DC and travel a fair bit. Play a lot at MD Live, Horseshoe Baltimore, Charlestown WV along with stopping in at other rooms while traveling. In any 8 week period I'm likely to play in 5 or six different poker markets.

First impression was positive. Dealers I had were either average or above. Cage, brush and floors all seemed competent.

$1 an hour in comps for smaller games is average. Some places are better, but there are lots of others offer zero comps for poker.

I don't drink, but did buy one last night for my neighbor. It was $3 for some vodka thing. Out of all the rooms that don't offer free booze I've played in, $3 is half what I would expect to pay. Note: if I ever buy you a drink at the table, it likely isn't because I'm being overly friendly. More likely I want you to enjoy yourself and keep playing because I want you to continue donating.

Had a quick meal at the food court, was average and cost much less than I expected to pay.

30 minute high hands were running. Seemed like a decent promo, didn't know it was running and was a nice bonus to bink one.

All bbj money needs to be returned to the player pool, so I can't ever understand people complaining about promos. Not like they take a portion of that money for profit. Do they use bbj drop funds to cover tournament guarantee overlays? Some rooms do this and I hate it - cash players shouldn't underwrite tournaments.

Can't comment on slots or room rates.

The power's that be at this and every other casino are running a for profit business. They are likely not stupid. They have access to tons of data and make decisions to maximize the key numbers they use to measure themselves. Good on them for that.

Most of 2+2 posters at least like to consider themselves independent business. Any good advantage player hustling to find maximum hourly edge over whatever activity they are doing will just continue to adapt and adjust.

Grand scheme of things, a $5 parking fee is going to make zero difference.

Crap! I knew I should've made my way down there - brojay is DONATIN'!!!

Not sure about what's going on with the open parking lot - was under the impression all the lots were going to be pay-to-park eventually.

I tried my best!

I think I read something on here about them having 750 total 'free' spaces, but who knows.

Not that I have hate, just sick of the Casino acting nothing like a casino should. Usually Casino's do thing to try and attract guests, but since they are the only show in town, they don't care about anything. While you might have gotten some $3.00 Vodka drink, I'm guessing it was some special, because most beers are $5-6.00, while we do get a $1.00 an hour comp, they expire after 60 days and aren't eligible for use in the food court anymore (which they used to be) And frankly, I don't usually want to sit down and have a meal or wait 30 min for a meal after a long session, so 90% of the time my comp points go to waste anyways since I can't use them at the food court to grab a quick meal anymore.... They used to mail players things like drink comps etc every now and then, now they don't... They used to have $5.00 blackjack tables, now the minimum is $25.00, they used to give players chances to win things just by swiping your card when you walk in, now you have to play $100.00 in slots to get 1 chance to win something. I get it to an extent, they are trying to cater to higher end people and know they are the only game in town, so they can basically do whatever they want and degens will still keep coming, just sucks to see it continually get worse and worse....

Now you sound like someone who just wants to complain.
  • $5 to $6 per beer is what you'd expect at a decent bar
  • $1/hour comps are for $1-2, you get $2 for $2/5+
  • Only reason you can't use comps in the food court is because the food court is run by a 3rd party
  • They still have $5 BJ tables during off peak times, just gotta know where to look

I'm not a THR apologist but your argument is "wahhh no fair they should treat their monopoly like they're in vegas".

Hardly think I'm whining, not trying to come off that way... But most casinos do things to attract players, like cheap or free drinks, good food deals, etc... And the Hard Rock used to do lots of comps, don't remember the last time I got a free comp drink thing in the mail (used to get them monthly, it's probably been years) I'm estimating they keep about 80% of the BBJ/Promo money for themselves and do absolutely nothing with it, I could get into about 10 other issues, but the paying for parking is just the icing on top of the ridiculousness that has become the Hard Rock over the last few years.
