They’re busy enough that you just gotta show up there in person

Just sat down to a new table and they collected $5 from every player. What’s that about?

What game/stakes? Could be a time rake game.

Just a 2/5. Not time rake.

Just to be clear-- you sat down at 2/5 and the dealer asked every player at the table for $5. You and everyone else-- with no questions asked whatsoever-- gave up the $5. And then the money went-- well, we have no idea where it went, that's not mentioned.

Not being a dick, just being skeptical of something that makes zero sense whatsoever...

Yeah, it didn’t make any sense to me either and let me be super clear on what appeared to happen:
New 2/5 table, I showed up and several people were already seated but no hands had been dealt. It looked like everyone else put $5 forward and she collected the chips. Not wanting to look stupid (but actually being stupid), I put forward $5 as well. She didn’t take my $5, but I was the big blind on the first hand. She had a stack of 5-6 red chips from these collections and she set them on the edge of her dealer tray. About 5-10” later a chip runner or dealer came by and picked up the stack.
I asked another dealer later in the night and he had no idea what I witnessed either, but said he was new. I’m getting the sense that it’s not a standard thing, but now I’m really curious what the heck was going on.

Doesn't make sense to me either. I never played the hold em cash games, just PLO. But when I was there it was either raked at $5 + $2 jackpot drop or the time rake was $8 every dealer down (so $16/hr per player)

So a dealer collecting $5 from everyone doesn't make any sense to me

When they start a new game, the brush often hand a colord chip to the players to try and combat people steeling seats. They have two sets: one red, one green. They look like your typical Walmart chips or whatever. Im guessing you confused these with actual $5 chips, which would also explain why she didn't take yours. I can confirm 2/5 is 5+2.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I suspect we have a winner. Thanks for clearing things up for me.

Could someone get confirmation on whether the snack bar will only be open for its regular (Thu-Sun) schedule during the Winter Poker Open series? I'm assuming I'll need to pack a picnic basket for when I play my event Monday, but if by some Christmas miracle the snack bar was open, that would be splendid. Thanks.

It’s usually closed and when tourneys like this run on Monday they have pre made sandwiches and chips at the bar you can get.

So it begins. THR raising rake from 10% max 5 + 2 jackpot to 10% max 6 + 2. Time rake changing as well.

they still double raking in the 2/2 PLO if you run it twice? When I was still in FL they would take 5+2 and then ANOTHER 5 if you wanted to run it 2x in the 2/2 PLO game, good grief

Sounds like run-it-twice pots are going up to $12 rake. Perfectly reasonable. Enjoy.

I've received mixed signals about whether time is increasing. One dealer told me yes and a different one told me no.

Personally, I wish people would stop slowing down the game by running it twice. As it stands, people don't seem to care about paying an extra $5 to run it twice, so I really don't think increasing it to $6 is going to change much.

Jesus this is going to kill all the 1-2 games... $9-$10 almost every hand coming off the table after every hand... Are people even doing anything about it? Feel like everyone should just boycott and go play somewhere else for a month, $6+2 is absurd....

It's basically the same in all Tampa area rooms. 1/2 at Silks and TGT rake $6+$2, Derby Lane is $5+$3.

I think it hurts 2/5 as much. A sizeable portion of 1/2 pots are in the 30-40 range so no change. At 2/5 not so much. But at 2/5 you are going to have more pots over $300-$400 where the $1 increase is negligible vs. $100-$200 larger pots in 1/2.
