Since they were advertising $150 not $145, so now I was told to come back Monday to collect a gas card, which is no big deal but I wonder what they will do next months about the visa cards since they will have $5 activation fees and they have already advertised $150 visa cards in Ante up magazine and mail outs.
There was no activation fee for the VISA gift card they gave out last time. There is no standard gift card fee from VISA. Rather, different issuers have different policies. I'm quite certain there is no law requiring an activation fee. In fact, as I recall, there were laws being considered to reduce fees for things like activation, non-use, etc.

I wonder if this particular issuer has an activation fee, or if someone who sometime in the past used a card with a fee, and they are under the false impression that all VISA gift cards have fees and started telling people that.

People that were issued the visa card last night in place of the gas card had complained when they found out about the $5 activation fee and thats what put a hold on things while they assess.

Apparently, they were giving out old visa cards from last year from July 2011, so thats why $5 had expired already at $2.50 a month after 12 months, so next month $7.50 would be gone from it. lol classic.

You are correct that the terms are related to the card issuer, not Visa. But it is not uncommon for most issuers to charge a fee if the balance is not used after one year (or some reasonable time-frame), otherwise they would have to keep all those cards in their computer systems potentially forever, even if the card is lost, or even if it has a minuscule balance on it that will never be used.

So the legal and IT implications are primarily what drives them to get have terms of use that allows them to get rid of the card balances (and information about the cards in their computer systems) after some reasonable period of non-use, but the issuers also don't mind collecting a little extra cash also.

They are giving $5 cash with the cards. Got mine today; was told about it and given the cash without having to ask.

You need to use the remaining $145 fast, or else additional fees will be incurred each month.

It's certainly easy for people to use them for everyday expenses and get their full amount before losing any more to another fee. That said, even if it's only $2.50, it's the principle of the thing that bothers me. The fact that no mention of this is made by management is pretty crappy. I guess their logic is that they could just hope no one notices, and/or plead ignorance if someone complains.

It seem obvious to me that the casino management didn't know there would be a problem giving out 1 year old cards that they had laying around. As soon as they found out, they starting giving the cards plus $5 cash, according to post above. I suppose that next month they will have to start giving out $10 if they still have old cards they are giving out.

However, in my experience it is not that always easy to use them if you don't charge the full amount to the card. Some retailers can handle partial charges, and some can't (may depend on the individual clerk). You need to be careful about going over the balance left on the card, because on some of them they will charge an "over-draft" fee even if they reject the charge. Make sure you go online and check the exact balance before using it and make sure the clerk only uses that amount. Amazon credits sound like a good idea.

Hopefully they only had a few old cards from last year and they have mostly new cards because probably Oct 1st will be another $2.50 off old cards making them $7.50 short and not only that if you collect 4 of them then and only use 1 of them up by Nov. 1 then $2.50 x 3 cards left will go away and the same the next month which would suck.

See! I told you guys we were gonna get in trouble!

Anyway, has anyone (which I guess means Ron) heard if they plan on sticking with gas/gift cards as a regular thing like HHR does? I know a lot of people have asked for it for a long time, and thought maybe... maaaaybe... management might have decided to listen.

Indeed. Plus, the tone has become very insulting/condescending, which is more of an NVG thing in contrast to our normally friendly THR hang out.

I'd suggest everyone just stop responding about the strategy and take it to the other forum, where there are about 10k threads on how to play JJ "correctly". (hint: there's about 10k different opinions).

I've seen the PLO run more often wed/thu/fri evenings. Keep an eye on the bravo app. I'm there most nights trying to get it started. It's amazing for action when it runs.

They have 4 series a year now, next is December. They just are not structured as well as down south as of late.

The 2/5 games I have been in have been markedly worse, but I can't believe a huge % of that is from the BBJ being hit, but who knows.

I got my Visa card for week one of October and the gift cards they are giving out for October are different than one Visa cards they were giving last month when they ran out of Shell cards, so the only cards with the service charges already on them are the ones in place of the Shell cards

It means in Nov, in addition to the normal $1/hr comp (for 2/5, I think it's .60 for 1/2, not sure), you also get $3/hr comp that can only be applied towards either playing in the WPT satellites or actual WPT events in the upcoming Dec WPT at the THR.

Yes, they are still doing the cards for October, but they are VISA gift cards, not gas cards.
