ME is another 2250, with a 400k gtd. Ladies event, seniors and a plo scheduled.
ME is 1 hour blinds instead of 40 min. like last year.
the $550 looks good, same as the $690 last year, 20k chips + 5k(likely) with 40 min blinds and 2 days.

As regular readers of this thread know, I have been (and still am) a staunch supporter of the vast majority of the dealers at the THR. That said, I had an incident two nights ago that caused me to stiff a dealer for probably the first time in my years there.

It's a dealer I'm not particularly fond of anyway, but haven't had any incidents with him. He sits down, and I win the first hand by raising on the button (I am so aggro!) and the blinds fold. Now some dealers take the $2 for the rake and JP drop, and some don't take a JP drop. So he pushes me a red and a white.

I slide the $1 chip back to him, and he takes it and puts it in his box. But he doesn't say thank you, or make eye contact or anything. This catches my attention. So I decide to watch closely and see if he just forgot to say it to me, or if there was a pattern.

He didn't thank the next guy, or the next, or the next, or anyone. In fact, he only thanked two people the entire round, and one was when the guy asked "did I get you" because he didn't hear a response.

So I won two more hands and didn't tip. Each time he sort of did an awkward pause, but didn't say anything.

I've decided (maybe later than I should) that I am going to be harder on the few dealers with the bad attitudes, and quit subsidizing their behavior. I'll let you know the next time he deals my table if anything has changed.

PS. I didn't put his name, but if anyone really cares, PM me. He is a short guy with glasses and one of those beards that sort of follow the jaw bone line rather than cover the whole face.

May Promo Update-

The extra $3/hour for June WPT is on the jackpot tv scroll now. I was told that in addition to the $3/hour WPT money that you can use any money that is already in your poker comp account and money earned at your normal comp rate in May toward June WPT tournaments also. So to be clear, no matter what game you play you will earn
$3/hour that is good only for June WPT tournaments + your normal comp rate per hour.

There will be single table satellites for the $2250 main event. 3 step, $55, $150(I think), and $480. The 1st 2 pay 3 spots and the $480 pays 2 spots to the main.
There will also be a couple $480 super satellites to the main.

You cannot use any bonus or comp money for the single table satellites, I am not sure about the $480 super. Any bonus/comp money used for WPT is non-transferable.

There are 2 more WPT's planned for this year at Tampa Hard Rock.

The timing of this for those who will be in Vegas starting at the end of May/early June stinks, but for me, maybe I'll actually show up again and give some $ to the patrons of the HR poker room.

It also stinks you can't transfer them (for those who want to actually "cash out" some of their poker-comps) and to those who would buy them at a discount to save some $.

Oh well, we cannot ask for everything. $3.60/hr assuming you want to play the tournaments and value the comps as cash-value isn't terrible. Even the HR Hollywoods initial 80 hours for $250 gift card is beatn here (3.13/hr). Maybe I'll try for a tournament buy-in in the upcoming month...re-negging on my comments as to not showing up until there are gas cards and gift cards...oops

Sounds like a decent promo for May. Thanks for posting.

Anyone know if there is a way to look up your comp $$ online? (I don't make it over there very often, but haven't ever used the comp $)

So I need to play 700 hours in May. No problem.

Thats pretty cool. I wish they would have a REAL main event (televised) 10K buyin and such.

Hows the action at the cash tables when the WPT is in town. Better or worse?

This is what I was thinking. The idea of this promo is good, but the promotion itself is a little light. For $240 worth of WPT ticket here, we could have $600 in gas back in January. Not demanding it be as good as gas, but it's not even close, really. And why can't I just use this extra 3 bucks an hour on food if I want to?

Because this promo is akin to giving a tournament seat away, easy way to make a dollar. See just like when places give away tournament seats, the room uses the promo money to fund the prize pool and add to the admin cost. For example, you get 200 dollars in WPT bucks and use it for the first 175+25 event. You spend 200, but THR's cost is only 175 since they get 25 back to the house. 8+ hours of your comp dollars is returned to them. If the money was used elsewhere, like for food, the house would take a true loss, and they are not about to do that.

So the cost for the casino of a $25 buffet is $25?

No, but the poker room doesn't recoup any revenue for me going to any food venue, the gift shop, etc.... the only way the room makes any money back with a promotion is tournament entries.

Even if I only have 100 dollars to spend on an entry, I'm more likely to play an event for a discount rather than an event I was not going to play. For the opening 200 dollar tournament, my cost is 100 dollars, but the room has earned an additional 25 dollars they might not have before with this promotion. So by discounting the tournament for me to make it more likely I will play, the room benefits. Using these same dollars for food, the room does not see a return. (except that people would more likely play there if they were getting 3 extra dollars)

So casino management cares whether they make the profit from the poker room as opposed to food sales?

In this case yes. This is why the comp can only be used for the WPT tournaments. They want to increase participation in these events. This is a case where the player funded comps go directly back to the casino in the form of actual dollars.

It's necessary to be more specific as to what is meant by "casino management."

If you're high enough up the management food chain, that is above department level management, the answer is probably no.

On the other hand, if your talking about department level management, the answer is probably yes.

When department managers sit down for their progress/review/whatever meetings with their bosses, they have to answer for the profitability and performance of their own department.

The cardroom manager doesn't get any gold stars on his review because food & beverage profits are up....
