I'm anxious to use my new tables. Anyone interested in a dealer's choice game this week? I could bring a dealer in.

Hi,

I've read through a bunch of fairly recent pages on this thread then figured I'd just ask my questions.

I'll be in Sacramento this weekend, staying at the Doubletree Hotel at 2001 Point West Way, and would like to play some poker.

1/3 NL is about my speed, I don't want to play higher due to bankroll limitations, and I won't have a car (so I gather Thunder Valley is out).

What do you all suggest? Is it generally safe to walk around in that area? Perhaps during the day but not night?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what's within walking distance. Maybe a sactown guy can chime in.

The closest poker room to that area is Casino Royale. It's about 1.5 miles away (the Red Lion Hotel on Leisure Lane) so it's easily walkable, but I'm not the type that thinks walking home from the casino is a good idea. Whatever floats your boat though. If you're doing it during the day it's fine, just be aware of your surroundings.

Royale has 1/2 NL with a $4 bring-in and a $400 Cap. They also run 4/8 Omaha H/L 8 or Better if you're into that kind of thing.

As far as the area, I would say it's fine during the day and less fine at night. Arden Fair Mall is across the street which attracts some negative attention. There are also a ton of apartments in that area so there's a very diverse mix of people. The apartments in Point West near Cal Expo are fine for the most part, the apartments behind Arden Mall are a different story. If it were me, I wouldn't walk around at night with anything I didn't want to lose, but I lean towards the paranoid side and you more than likely would be just fine.

If you don't want to walk, you have a few more options within a short cab ride. Aside from Royale you have Limelight (on the corner of J St. And Alhambra in East Sac) or Capitol Casino (North 16th St. Just south of Richards Blvd). Both of these places run 1/3 NL every day. Capitol is the busier of the 2, and it's also the nicer room. They will have 1/3 going all day long (with the exception of like 5-8 am?) and will have multiple tables running. I'm not sure what Limelight's 1/3 traffic is like but I'm guessing they will have 1-3 tables at peak hours.

Capitol is slightly farther from you than Limelight, but both are very close. I wouldn't recommend walking to either Limelight or Capitol though.

Casino Royale is 1.5 miles and Cap Casino 4 miles, CR offers a free shuttle service in the day/ early evening, but I'm sure double tree offers a shuttle as well. CR spreads 1-2, Cap spreads 1-3.

Edit: looks like CJ beat me to it

If you keep a 9mm or 40 with you I wouldn't mind walking to any of the above mentioned spots. Enjoy.

Yeah I definitely have my .380 as a backup at all times. Perfectly legal to fly with one. No problems at all. Just declare it when you check your bags and of course don't try to bring it in your cary on. You'll need a locked case but you can pick up a plastic case for $6.00.

Of course you'll need a ccw permit for CA and those can be hard to get if you aren't a CA resident. Other states you can just apply online. 😁

You guys are so bad ass with your guns. I would definitely feel safer walking with you towards another individual with a gun.

All the talk was just meant as a "barbed" fish hook to real in abarber. We haven't discussed it at all in the past but I just had a hunch he would have something to say about the issue.

😝

To the guy visiting this weekend. Change your plans and head to Chicago. They have a complete ban on all guns and issue zero licenses to carry outside of law enforcement. You'll be much safer there as I believe only police have guns and all thugs and killers have voluntarily turned in their unregistered weapons.

Very True. In areas where ALL the good guys have guns you find very little violence. If I'm going to commit a home invasion I'm picking the house without the pitbull and without the shotgun. All humans pick the path of least resistance.
