They had 74 tonight! I think that's a pretty common turnout. There were a few alternates that I don't think made it in either

OKC Thunder players were at Cap tonight playing 2-5. They wouldn't start a 5-10 with 20 on the list! I still love ya guys, but it woulda been nice, & I would have stayed til morning if you did.

Does 5-10 even run in Sac outside of Fridays at TV?

I am thinking about going to the GSR in Reno to play some tourneys 3/1 (Fri.) through 3/3 (Sun.) I am looking to carpool and share a room there with one other person. If you take your car I will contribute $50 towards gas (which should cover round trip) and we'll split the room 50/50 (they are advertised at $40+tax per night Fri./Sat.) If we can get a foursome together in one car we'll split the gas 3 ways with the other non-owners and get 2 rooms.

Here is the schedule:

I definitely want to get there Friday by 4 pm to play in the PLO event and stay to play the HORSE event which starts Sunday at 4 pm also so you may be committed to a late Sunday return to Sacramento.

PM if you're interested. I live near Sac State.

Yeah, sure. A PYT would offer to pay for gas and share a hotel room with you.

When I was at the Limelight the other day someone (the dealer maybe?) mentioned they spread a 5/10-like game Thursdays starting at 5pm. Take it with a grain of salt though....

The game is a 2-5 mandatory $10 straddle. Plays a lot bigger than thunders 5/10 but that's not saying much.

Event 3 at the GSR for the WPC in March looks good. Similiar structure to LA's $340 100k buy in event.

Any other limit players in Sacramento? I sent an email to Thunder Valley the other day about their silly limit offerings, and am just waiting for a response. I know us limit players aren't exactly the majority of poker players, but it'd be nice to at least some some sort of sense to the structure of the games.

In case anyone is curious, Thunder Valley offers the following limit games: 3/6, 4/8, 6/12, 8/16 etc. Just a million tiny little steps. It's dumb. I'm convinced that if they were so inclined they could actually run regular higher limit games if they put just the slightest bit of effort in, and had a more standardized group of limits to offer.

Yeah I've heard that, just haven't checked it out yet because I'm lazy and TV is closer, LOL. But I do need to find a bigger game.

And here's the reply I just got. WTF?

"Thank you for taking the time to send me your Limit Hold’em suggestions. The games offered at Thunder Valley are not dictated by the staff, rather the guests that visit. We offer every game you have listed below and we make a concerted effort to spread any level game that has interest. As a limit player myself, I would like to see the games you mention below on a regular basis. The local player base supports a variety of no-limit games, but we have not experenced demand on the limit side for any game above $4-$8. Your recommendation to promote play by enticing guests through a reduced rake is not a method that we utilize. We choose to treat each game equally in the area of rack and promote Poker through promotional opportunities. It was a pleasure responding to your feedback and I really appreciate the level of detail and thought you put into your email."

I have played a decent amount at Thunder over the last couple years and have never seen a limit game above 4-8. Most casual players in Sac, and all over America really, don't like limit. It's slow and boring and technical, and much harder to get big wins in, which is what attracts casual players to play poker. There isn't a market in Sac for big limit games. Like Steve said, Capitol runs 8-16 pretty much every day so that is your best bet. I guess Royale tried to do 10-20 limit once a week for awhile but it died out pretty quickly. Thunder is not going to start spreading games that people aren't going to play, they have a hard enough time running games properly that people do want to play. There's no point in them running big limit if they don't already have enough people to fill up a game, and they prob wont start a game short handed.

So basically, if you wanna play bigger than 4-8, you're either going to need to go to Capitol and play 8-16, or find 9 friends that are willing to go to Thunder and start up a game of whatever.

Or of course you could go to the Bay and play pretty much whatever stakes limit you want, or you can play 15-30 at Peppermill in Reno.

Peppermill actually gets a good 20-40 going semi-regularly from my understanding.
