How’s the action during the evening hours?

Just finished my first ever cash game session. I learned that a lot of people had no idea that the rake is $10. Literally 3 different guys at my table asked the dealer what it was.

It's 9 pm, and the majority of poker tables are playing short handed already.
No waiting list.

People from Massachusetts are not night Owls.

According to poker atlas there are 10 tables of 1/3 with 23 on the list. I'm not staying up until midnight to see the numbers. I just can't imagine very many people playing after midnight.

FTR the list is a little misleading. The list of 32 for 1/3 last night had two actual live humans present and 30 more signed up on poker atlas, but not there yet. So the real list was 2 in front of me.

Met a friend and only donked afterward for like an hour, but had an incredible hand distribution of 99, TT, JJ, QQ & KK in that hour. Then every hand lost except for TT, which was behind a flopped Q when all the money went in, only to runner runner flush :/

But hey, THAT'S POKER.

Did it stop them from playing?

Are you allowed to "tip the rake" - i.e. drag a pot and add a portion of the pot to the rake?

Just imagining goofing around when stacking someone and sliding the entire pot into the rake instead of taking it for yourself purely for the sake of tilting someone more

One guy make a face like he was going to puke. He asked right after dragging a $600 pot. He tiped the dealer 35 bucks.

Encore is having trouble keeping its table games staffed. They will continue to bring up that problem up before they add more poker tables. It’s a never ending circle. The rent prices around Boston continue to climb. The traffic sucks and the gas prices make it hard for those that choose to commute . Encore’s pay scale and benefits aren’t good so people quit when a better option comes up.

Doesn't matter if they have 1000 tables... with $10 rake it makes zero sense to play there... I don't care how good the action is, over a large sample size it's simply unbeatable especially after all the dumb fish that have converged on the place since it reopened and are donating stacks go broke which is inevitable. It will be even worse when the pre-covid jackpot money that's currently funding the high hands runs out and they start charging $10+$3

Encore pay scales don’t justify the area.
I know people there in all different positions and they’re all literally just waiting to jump at the next place that opens

“I don’t care how good the action is” and “dumb fish”…….wouldn’t this seem to matter? Home games with high rake is the most profitable game there is as it’s filled with these same type of players. Why would you purposely avoid these games when at Encore? I don’t understand the fascination with low rake nitfest games.

FTR: At $10 rake, I doubt the Encore needs more than 20 tables.

Games are good and I don’t think the rake matters AS MUCH given $8 rakes in NH including jackpots which are raked differently.

I think games at all levels are pretty beatable and this isn’t a market where the “fish” dry up. There always a new pool shoving them stacks and with the $500 buyin at the $1/3 you will get lots of deep stack play.

I think we can open the discussion if they start taking a jackpot of top which I’m told isn’t anytime soon. Jackpots are raked differently and there are times where you are paying for one you can’t win.

Also have heard October is the target date for going 7 days a week 10am-4am. Heard nothing about more tables.

Dealer told me it was about 4-5 more months of "no jackpot rake" left in the money. Not sure of reliability of that quote but wouldn't be surprised if it was accurate.

So there is 70 names on the list for 1-3 at 7pm on a Wednesday but they claim there isn't enough demand to hire more dealers? They could up the rake to 50% and people would still flock to this dump

I also heard that October is when they expand days and hours. Also if and when they ever can expand and improve their parking situation, they would then go back to the old poker room footprint with the 60-70 tables. That could be a long ways away and wouldn’t hold breath for that.

I don't know whether a $10 rake makes the games unbeatable or not; I suppose that it might be if the skill differentials are enormous enough. But I do know that $10 rake is gougingly high to the point of being insulting, and I will refuse to play there as long as any reasonable alternatives exist (NH, FW).
What a shame!

easily 60% of the names on the list are online checkins that never show up.
