Hey guys just wanted everyone to be on guard when ordering wine at Borgata restaurants, make sure you double check the listed price and don't go solely on the word of your server.

You always have to watch out for expensive restaurants, they push expensive drinks all the time.

Yea and the people didn't realize it was over 3k. Not buying their story at all. If true then they would have never settled for 2k.

I like how the gawker article links to the wine list. So I scroll down and fine the wine for $3,750. How do you choose this wine without knowing the price? It's right there. I doubt the bottle was just laying around the bar.

The waitress said 3750, they thought she meant $37.50.

I heard he told the waitress he did not know anything about wine, and he did not have his glasses, and could not see the wine list well. She suggested the wine, and he asked how much, and she replied thirty-seven-fifty.

The guy was paying for a table for 10 at Bobby Flay's restaurants, so he was expecting to shell out $2K for dinner, just not $6K. So my point is, this is not some poor schmoe, but a rich schmoe who may have been caught by surprise.

I used to be a server somewhere similar to bobby flays. We used to add 18% gratuity automatically for a party of 6 or more, including wine.

This waitress is either super evil or just lives in a different world than the rest of us. Would be shocked if she still works there.

Easily, people do it all the time.

Often times they will then proceed to sign the check without ever losing eye contact with whoever their guest is much less check the total, sometimes even scribbling "20%" which means they are now tipping the automatic 18% (before tax) + 20% (after tax)

Waitress was an idiot. Tons of people who go into high-end places have no idea about wine. In fact, I'd say more than 80% of people who go out to dinner know nothing about wine. Including me, and I worked in a high end restaurant.

Anyone who's ever been a server knows as soon as you "sell" any wine over $200 dollars or so, you ensure they know how much it costs so there is no problem afterwards. Lol at "selling" a 4,000 dollar bottle of wine to a person who specifically says they don't know much about wine. You suggest something economical that they may like in the $80-120$ range, not the $4,000 range. I guarantee they don't sell >$500 dollar bottles of wine very often. Almost no restaurants do that on a regular basis. To put it in perspective, I worked in one of the top 5 places in Philadelphia for multiple years, and I can count on one hand how many times anyone ordered wine that was more than 1,000 dollars. It's very rare.

Think about it for a second : how many of you have ever gone out to dinner that wasn't a corporate sponsored event (meaning the person didn't actually have to pay for it) and someone ordered wine that was over 500 bucks? I've done it once, and it was at the French Laundry, and the bill was split by 5 people, and we still complained about it but we did it because it was a special event.

And yeah, I agree she probably doesn't work there anymore, or they don't deserve to.

Stories like that really annoy me.

Does any one know a way to get comped, or at least get a discount to use the gym? Its getting cold now and tend to go to Borg more often when its cold. I'd like to get a work out, but I think the gym is 10-12 per day. that is kind of ridiculous.

Any options? Even a discount?

I know it is crazy but do not think there is any way.

You can't use comp dollars for the gym?

I think you can. The issue is that it will cost you $10-$12 comp dollars to use the gym. I feel that is a little steep and would like some kind of discount.

Why do you feel you're entitled to a discount compared to others?

I asked if there were any discounts for use of the gym. The Answer appears to be a resounding no. I did and repeat my personal preference that there were some sort of discounts for gym use or a gym pass.

I checked it out and the cost is $12 for use of the gym. As borgata gives out various comps, including things such as free parking passes from time to time, I would like a pass to the gym. I feel no entitlement, but would like it as a perk based on my play there.

Is there an app I can download that tells me how many tables are live at which stakes at the borgata in real time, or very close to real time?

ie. how many 2-5 NL games are there right now?

Thanks

Is anyone seeing a weird glitch in this thread? Like the last post I see is today, 4:34 from double edged sword, but it says there is another page after this, page 255, and when I click on it it brings me back to october 14th.

Or am I crazy?

It's not you, I believe it has to do with all the deleted posts over the years and the thread has been going on for quite some time.

Yup. It's a glitch. The only way to fix it is to create a new Borgata thread, but many are opposed to that because they're "proud" of the fact that this thread has the most posts.
