What poor social skills IMO. Make the game fun for the people who you want there (which I think I get an above average grade at, but I also don't have to spend 40 hours a week playing poker)
I find your criticisms amusing. You can be very engaging in person, but often you are quietly listening to music at the table. And on the internet, well, let's just say your jokes often have contextual issues that cause them and you to be frequently misunderstood.
Most of the players who play Words With Friends and other games at the table in the 40 can be very gregarious and engaging when it's appropriate. While it's important not to be a jerk, and not to ignore chatty players, going overboard is just as bad as ignoring people. Some players find being it irritating when they aren't left alone to play poker.
The 40 regs play with the same people every day to a much higher extent than any game other than the 75 or maybe the 5-10, they all know each other very well and get along fine. Sometimes you just run out of new and interesting discussion topics when you've played almost every day with someone for months on end. And it's variable, some times the table conversation is lush and profane, somedays sparse, but I don't think quiet games are hurting interest in and enjoyment of the 40 at all.
Thank god for smartphones and iPads. They take the tedium out of live poker for many, many players.
