Don't see why not. Maybe a hpt or hosting more than one decent tournament per year, maybe do one in the winter. It brings in lots of people, and games are really good then.

Also, I understand in giving the new manager time, but from my understanding the food prices were only raised in the poker room. I rarely eat there, but many others do and were complaining. Also what about the mega bbj? Not sure if that was his idea or not to begin with or if it was here before him, but everyone seemed to love it and def brought in more players. Not sure why they wouldn't redo that.

The mega BBJ was the result of the new poker room manager. I believe he was only able to get clearance to run it once from the people upstairs.

The state gaming compact is written to benefit CAZ and the other tribes. Given what they pay the state every year, it's trivial for them to get what they want out of it. So if it's brought up, it's an excuse. If they want to do something, it will be written into the compact ASAP.

One example is the old $150 bet cap they had for years in poker. The story was they were "forced" to accept this by the gaming commission in return for approval of $1k per hand blackjack. That's a pretty absurd story on it's face, that a gaming commission would think $1k/hand black-jack at 100 hands/hour (with splits/doubles) is somehow safer for players than $200 poker bets in 30 hands/hour poker games. The real story is the tribes wanted to get their whales out of the poker room where the room only made $14/hour off them, and over to the blackjack table where the whales could lose thousands an hour.

The truth is, when the gaming commission has an thought on anything, it was given to them by the tribes.

nice discourse, but the bottom line is the compact doesn't allow for poker tables to be set up outside the poker room. obviously it would be beneficial to the casino to have the law changed but it hasn't been.

Whomever put together the TSR tournament schedule has an eye on both profitability of the house & sustainability of the games, and the structures are just fine -- nay, perfect -- as they are. Again, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

actually the structures suck but it's the only game in town so they can get way with it

No. They suck for winning tournament players. They are great for recreational players and the casino.

I actually wish the structure was faster. My favorite tourney they have is the super tubes with 15 min level.

They do run some pretty sick Dailey tournaments where the blinds just stay at level 1 for the whole tourney.

If there was a change, I'd like to see a limit holdem tourney evey so often. At least half the player base in room is limit holdem players and most of the hi stakes players play limit. This tourney would be able to tap both player pools as lots of tourney players would play and lots of limit holdem players would also play. I think something like a $500 bi monthly limit tourney would be lots of fun and would have a very good turnout.

Not to mention it would have to have a good structure. 20 minute levels and skipping blind levels isn't gonna cut it for most players.

His point is it isn't a guarantee. If one person shows up, the prize pool would be $1k, because all their advertising mentions a specific field size to create said prize pool. Worst promo since the $10 million first prize at 2014 WSOP Main Event.

You would? Have you played a limit tourney? They aren't a lot of fun. They aren't much like LHE cash games except for the early levels.

Yes I have played a lot of them. I enjoy them.

When CAZ had two regular tourneys on Tues and Wed nights they had one of each in the beginning. They eliminated the LHE one due to lack of interest. As it is if a player didn't have his entry by 5:30 for the 7 pm start he'd be shut out. Now they don't even sell out and haven't for years. At any rate I don't think a LHE tourney would attract much business except for maybe a once/month thing.

Actually I think they are much better than NL tourneys. Player make decisions far quicker, almost no Hollywooding or inquisitions by players.

It would be interesting experiment, I'd certainly play them.

You and crazylond should just make your own tournament then. You're prob the only guys that would show up anyway.

I've played only one LHE tournament and that was by accident. First hand, I get JJ and raise 3x bb as is the standard, and everyone yells I can't do that. Bay 101 used to run LHE tournaments every Sunday, but I assumed it was a "normal" tournament and didn't read the fine print. They've since come to their senses and run NLHE only.

If it ran like once every 2-3 months and had a bigger buy in $300+ I think it would get a nice turnout. I can think of at least 30 people I know for sure that would likely play it that don't play the regular weekend tourneys, so when you add in the tourney grinders it should be decent.

I have played quite a few LHE tournaments in Las Vegas and LA and it always seems like there are at least a handful of AZ players there

What are the NL games like in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area?

Is there daily 2-5? 5-10 with any frequency? I haven't seen any rooms listed on Bravo.

As pointed out many times in the thread,

there are no "no limit" games per se, due to state regs limiting the maximum size of any single bet to $500.

But there is spread limit - the equivalents relevant to your question are:

2-3 blinds, 300 max buy in, 300 maximum bet size.

3-5 blinds, 1K max buy in, 500 max bet size. If someone bets 500, you can raise to 1k only, and so forth.

5-10 blinds, (when it goes), 2.5K max buy in, 500 max bet size.

The 500 max bet size is not usually much of a constraint in the 3-5 game, at least when I've played. It can be a factor in the 5-10 game.

How many entrants can be expected at this Saturday's "Last Saturday of the Month" tournament?

There is no guarantee correct?

Does anyone know of a website that tracks this history?
