Obviously, you have to put up with hearing about the jackpot every two minutes, but all in all I think it's a big positive for the games.
This is the "real" value of the jackpot and all promos in general for the winning grinders! Playing in rooms or in games without promotions is terrible for keeping the rec players and overall losing players in the games. Losing an extra bit of rake hurts, but the long term effects of keeping the games alive outweighs the costs IMO.

To your first question I personally have no issues with the football pool being for everyone in the room regardless of their game of choice not paying into the fund as just putting people in seats is a huge plus. The players may play those games today, but when they are broke or just overall not winning in those games they will move over and play the jackpot promo funding games tomorrow if the promos are running!

Personally I strongly disagree that jackpots bring in a significant number of new players or keeps them there longer. On the contrary, all the extra money that goes out of the poker economy likely makes players go broke more quickly.

I played a lot in Atlantic City where games were perfectly fine with no jackpot. Then one or two places got them, and they did take business away from other places, so then those places had to get them also to compete. In the end the net number of players and hours played was probably the same, but particular rooms were busier when they had the biggest jackpot in town.

Now everywhere in AC has the jackpots, some are trying other promos as well, but business is down all over town. A good amount of the business has gone to Parx in Philadelphia, which AFAIK still has no jackpot (they definitely did not for their first year).

Parx still has no jackpot. Alas, though, it is almost certainly still coming. I was told the only reason we didn't have it yet was that the original application was rejected by PGCB for some technical reason so they had to resubmit.

I'm playing at the V right now and they just bid Tom, the day shift manager fair well. Dealer said she heard he is going to AZ. Mystery (probably) solved.

So, do you know the guy (or his policies) very well? What do you think of him?

I don't play here often. I'm sure others on here are familiar with him. But I will say this, Venetian runs like a well oiled machine. I'm sure he will be good for the room.

Once I had a bad experience with a V floorman, but then talked to the shift manager who was helpful, apologetic, and gave me a free meal comp for my trouble. That was maybe 5 years ago though, and I don't even remember if it was day or evening shift.

Almost as good as confirmed per a tweet to me @Alaskagal1 from @VenetianTD saying its Tom Young, day shift supervisor.

Thanks for all the follow ups AlaskaGal! Might be some good news for deepstack tournament players. Perhaps we will actually get real deepstack structures attached to the name deep stack tournament!

Overall have to agree tho, the rulings at the V have always seemed very fair, and has always been overall well run.

It's been a few years since I put any real volume in there and am unfamiliar with this floor person, but we need a solid foundation to work from and really hoping he can bring that to the room.

Yeah, I think this is good for the tourneys. I am still stunned that the supposed highlight tourney of the month, the end of the month, doesn't ever have antes. That is just LOL bad, and half the reason I never play it. The other half is the keno ticket part. Then again I may average 2 tourneys a year here, so I'm not quite the target audience.

Yes Tom Young is going to be the New Poker Room manger. At casino az. I still think it is wrong that the casino is hidding the fact the last room mngr and tournament directer were stealing money from the players. The director I can understand , he openly was a very greedy jerk.
I think the Casino has a tun of moeny and is very profitable in the total opperation. They have the money to make it right. They need to step up and give the players several weeks of no rake or time payed.

The regular tournaments at Talking Stick are a joke other than the super bounty and regular big stack tournaments, and those only have somewhat reasonable structures. I'm expecting better things to come tournament wise with the new manager. A Venetian style deepstack series or having one of the poker tours come to Talking Stick would be a great improvement over what we have now.

I sure hope they do not try to do a big poker series, unless they manage to get the regulations changed so they can have tournament tables in another room. If they did a big series in the main room it would just cut out the cash game regulars who want to play on those days.

Once a year, what's the big deal? Some players benefit, others do not. That's life.

123 kinda strange you would post that without elaboration. Clearly you have some specific information. Speaking up after they are gone? Where was your courage before?

Got to understand this Arizona, not Vegas. Most players got regular jobs, families, and for the older folks bed times before 10PM. Most don't want to (or can't) play 8+ hour (or multi-day) tournies.

The yearly championship is great, and don't get me wrong I like a good structure, but for a random weekend/$100 tourney a fast structure is probably better in getting more people in.

The same tourney players are there all the time. Have a hard time believing they have regular jobs, families, etc., that would keep them from playing tournaments with a better structure.

The Venetian has big series at least 6 times a year I think.

And even if only once a year, the players it would benefit are those from out of town while local regulars get screwed, or go to a different casino; I just don't think it's good for their business overall.

Are they still doing that top 10% get paid BS tourney during the day? Is it only certain days and the others are the "regular" format? Would be nice if they could do a small adjustment to that daytime structure but I guess they want it over before 5-5:30 pm to open up tables but mon-thurs usually they have enough open tables they could add a few more levels and make it a little more playable instead of the shove fest

local regular tournament players would not get screwed. they would be happy. and tournaments can be run in such a way(such as multiple starting days) to minimize the impact on cash players. of course, the current staff has no real vision or experience with respect to how to run tournaments which is why it will be great to get some new blood running the poker room. i think all players will benefit from this change.
