Then you might have people stalling every hand because one more person busted means more money for their short stack.

Just need to mix in some random pay jumps so that 11th doesn't get the same as 18th-20th.... 21st doesn't get the same as 30th or 40th... etc. Not that big a deal overall, just something I noticed over the years of playing a lot of dif tourneys.

I think the best solution for bad tournament payoff structures is to make all tournaments bounties.

My name got bumped down the 20 list by a player who arrived between 30- 60 minutes after me. I was first up for the MM game for almost an hour, then I wasn't. All three floor staff denied doing it/knowing anything about it so, I guess it didn't happen. Wait, I'm 100% sure. Maybe his name dropped off the list. Mine has several times. So easy for someone to own it. #justownitplease

Was it someone that the main game would have wanted over you?

That would be just about anybody but he's talking about getting into the MM game, IOW all of a sudden he wasn't first on the list.

Let me be clear, The floor staff on day shift are mostly great but, today not so much. I am a low maintenance player and, generally try to help staff/dealers whenever I can. I have ZERO problems with mistakes from anyone, anytime. If his name should have been ahead of me, no problem. If his name fell off the list, no problem. If he asked to be on the list but you forgot, no problem. I don't think that keeping the list integrity intact is too difficult.

I am not as good a player as many of the young guns and, there is very little I can do about it except position myself optimally in the lineup to stay out of their way as best I can.

I watched a bit of the 3/5 waiting for a 2/3 table today. The play on a Wednesday night was obviously tougher than a Friday night, but HOW are the games different between 2/3 and 3/5?.

Much more aggro overall than 2/3 and most people play deeper stacked (200bbs deep vs 100bbs deep).

That matters more over the course of the session moreso than it does in any one hand really due to the nature of spread limit, provided there aren't too many short stackers of course. It gives you more room to work with post flop to utilize hand reading skills and more turn/river barreling than you will see in the average 2/3 game.

There are still some passive players in these games, but they are much fewer than what you will find in the 2/3 game.

I haven't been grinding either game much for the past year, but I have a lot of hours playing in both over the last 5 years or so.

Hope that helps.

I see a few of the same faces everytime I am there at the 3/5.... gotta assume there are a few low level pros or semi-pros playing. Not much overlay there then.

in any game that is near the highest stakes in that casino you will mostly find regular faces. that just means they are more skilled than the lowest games players. no way it means that they are good enough to win at that limit.
most players play at least two limits higher than they can beat or should be playing at.
only at the highest game in the joint will there be players that should be there as there isnt a place to go up.

Guess I'm including a year or two of the old 5-150 spread game in my history as well, as the 3/5 game didn't get going until state limits went up. Boy I miss those days

There are plenty of "regulars" that are still playing in a lot of the games... I would say that most of these players derive their income elsewhere and can "afford" to play their favorite game, even tho they don't actually win at it. As mentioned, this would absolutely include even some of the better than average regs who play in the 3/5 game. They may be just good enough to be just ahead of break even or slightly losing, but they play far from optimal a lot of the time.

In the end, quite simply, game selection.

This was the cover story and not the REAL reason that I heard as to why both the room manager and Tournament Director both retired. They were Allowed to retire as a courtesy.

I heard Phil Hellmuth got a week at the Hotel, 2 buy-in's for the tourney (Sat, Sun) plus 10k in cash for coming to the tourney.

What am I to make of this cryptic point?

If so, I think it's pretty reasonable and glad caz paid. He did a good job announcing tourney and was pretty reasonable/accommodating interacting with people in the room. Also playing with him was very entertaining as he pretty much kept telling me how awful I was for 2 days straight, was very amusing.

I had the unique experience of being heckled by Phil from the rail in a cash game. "Hey kid overplayed your aces there, huh?"

Still I think his presence was good for CAZ and the tourney.

At the beginning of the game, you get a ticket with two numbers on it. One is for home, and one is for away. It is a single digit, so this is the last digit of the score. If the score is 25 - 13 (home team always listed on the right or bottom), then the winning ticket would be Away: 5 Home: 3. The score counts at the end of each quarter, so there are 4 pay periods, end of 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter, and game.

Currently for September, the payoffs for the first quarter ticket (black) are $500 the correct way or $250 the reverse way.

Reverse would be if you had Away: 3 Home: 5. Only the first quarter ticket is reverse-able, the other three quarter tickets have to be in the right order. Another twist is that the first quarter ticket is good for the whole game. And since it is reverse-able, if you get a double number like Away: 0 Home: 0 (the best ticket possible), you get both the right and wrong way payouts, so a 10-0 score at the end of the first quarter would be worth $750.

The other tickets are worth:
2nd Quarter: $100
3rd Quarter: $200
4th Quarter: $300

Remember, those are only good for that quarter, and aren't reverse-able. With the first quarter ticket being worth more, reverse-abe, and good for all 4 quarters, it makes it very worthwhile to get there before kickoff to get the first quarter ticket.

Hopefully this answers the questions. The first quarter ticket will either be reduced to 400/200 or 300/150 after September is over. It was 300/150 last year but in year's past it was 400/200.

I think these are very old playoffs. I believe it's 300/150 for the main ticket.

Pope is correct: The payoffs are 500/250 for the black tickets for the month of September
