State law, by the tribal compact.

Here's the original 2003 compact...

...and here's the update where they went to $500 betting maximums on poker tables.

Simply the most you can bet for a single bet is that amount. If Player A bets $500, player B can raise $500 to $1000 total. In effect, it becomes a limit game if people play correctly.
So then player A would just call, as he could not raise on this street. Eventually, player A can bet another $500 on the next round of betting? I hope I am understanding this correctly. Anyway, this rule sucks, but I know it's better than the $150 max that it used to be.

the $500 limit is Per Bet or raise.
(A) can bet 500, (B) can make it 1000, (C) can make it 1500 (D) can cap it at 2000.

Its a limit game with a spread of X-XXX.
1 Bet and three raises allowed per street.
If A bets 100 next player can call the 100 or raise an additional 100-500.
If the he raises to 300( a 200 raise) Player C can call the 300 or raise an additional 200-500 etc

No cap on raises if you are heads-up before it is 4 bet .

Up to 4 bets on a street unless its heads up I believe. It will rarely be an issue unless you get in deep in a 10/20 game that rarely goes.

It appears they finally got all the lights in the ceiling changed out, i was concerned because during the process it was such a stark white light.

I was pleased when i arrived yesterday to find they had adjusted the power level down a good amount.
The room is lit really well, and gone are the "hotspots" that were prevalent on many of the tables with the old lights. The new lighting is much more balanced with even coverage on all the tables.

Yeah, I was there on Thurs and they were done with the back half of the room. It looked so even and nice, but it was very bright. When you went to the front of the room, it was even more obvious the dark and bright spots than before. I was told once they were all installed, they were on a dimmer so they would dim them a bit. Glad it is done, can't wait to see it tomorrow!

It would be funny if they stopped now and left the room with a bright half for tourneys and high stakes and a patchy half for grinders.

Its changeover is finished, the evenness of the lighting is so much easier on the eyes. There are a few minor areas where they are adjusting the angles a bit i think, but overall the new lights have made a huge difference. I think these new lights have already had an effect in reducing the heat in the room as well.

yea, maybe the new improved lights are whats responsible for the new polar bear temps in the "ice arena" but, these frigid temps appeared BEFORE the lights so doubtful. The lights themselves are GREAT (thanks facilities), but, now have to bring a parka and leg warmers to play poker. Much better than playing in the Amazon so, not complaining.

Why don't we rub it into the players how much we take off the table per hour

Don't sweat it. That looks more like an hour and a half.

I don't know for 100% accuracy, but my guess would be $7 per half hour since that is what it is at 20/40 and 40/80

I forget if dealers are allowed to sell out of racks @ CAZ--it's been about six months since I played there--but in a lot of the places I play on the east coast calling for a fill isn't necessarily a bad thing because it could mean that there have been quite a few reloads sold out of the rack.

But if they're not allowed to sell out of the rack, a fill certainly is an unwelcome reminder of money going to the house.

Dealers at CAZ hardly ever have to get fills. Especially since they keep their own trays, so they fill their trays with white chips at 3/6 and 4/8, and sell them off at 2/3, 8/16, and 20/40.

Although I might be biased because I always play 20/40 and that is usually the first down after a break, so maybe the dealers are just stopping at the cage after their break to make sure their tray is well balanced.

The dealers and their trays are one of the things that CAZ does better than anywhere else, especially compared to Vegas. Fills annoy the **** out of me in Vegas, especially since they are house banked and they have to slow down the game to verify, where even when the dealer at CAZ gets some chips, they don't have to slow the game down much at all.

Dealers are allowed to sell chips ,encouraged really, out of the rack at The Arena Poker Room ( Formally CAZ). We check out a bank/rack at the start of and maintain it through the shift. We are encouraged to have it balanced and filled( as pope suggested) at the start of each set of downs.

Most of the chips we sell out of the rack are in the lower limit (fixed games) or a stack of red occasionally in the 20 game during the interim while a running retrieves the full buy-in.
The system works really well AFAIC.

No, they do it ALMOST as well as the San Jose rooms. IIRC dealers still pick up chips at the cage. I remember because it seemed kind of stupid to have to wait behind dealers. The San Jose dealers transact business either in a back room or at the chip stations distributed throughout the room for chiprunners.

Dealers and chip runners have their own cashier. They are not permitted to use the same cashier as the players unless, they are playing off the clock. Been that way for quite a while.

13. You're coming out of your shell!

pig's obv not been to CAZ since the tents.

pig, you waffled last time I asked you to send me a note when you come this way. I will buy you a top shelf drink or any dinner off the poker room menu if you'll let me.

Lastly, nobody does it worse than Gila River. I've sat there while they did $200 fills and was amazed that they were willing to let everyone see how fast they came up. I mentioned it once to a floor person. Just once.

A friend of mine was playing 3/6 so against my policy of never playing 3/6 I decided to join him. 3/6 is like the Mos Eisley of poker. So many idiots there take that dumb stake so seriously. A guy got into an argument with the dealer because he tried to string raise preflop. Another guy got a bad beat and refused to play anymore until the next dealer came. Then I raised one of my blinds and didn't win the pot and the guy who won chastised me for "ruining the jackpot" and said I deserved to lose because I raised. Ugh. It is simply amazing though how that is the most popular limit at the casino even though I'm sure virtually no one in the game is a winner long term due to the oppressive rake.

welcome to low stakes live poker. 95% of players are like that, it's sad really.

I played $2/3 a week ago and a guy got PISSED at me because I 3bet his tiny 3x open raise to $30 then bet the AQ5 flop with my AK and he folded TT. He wanted to check it down for the jackpot, which was a massive $7500 at the time.

Yup, probably. I've only been there at night, so I couldn't tell they were tents, but that's what I heard.

The last time I was in Phoenix it was just for a day and I was busy, busy, busy. But I certainly appreciate the offer and will keep it in mind the next time I'm in Phoenix!

It is very well reviewed. I have had it once when my wife and I were staying at the hotel for lunch between sessions for me. Very good indeed.
