It just means your good short and deep if your a good player imo.

IRT staking: Agree with full disclosure. This will make you unable to do donk act, but the idea that you're a staked player might give you extra FE. I played in a donkament once in which a guy and his horse got seated at the same starting table, right next to each other. I had some concern about them soft-playing each other at first, but they clearly didn't. Guy had position on his horse and used it ruthlessly. Sadly for them, I had pos on both.

IRT playing hard against friends: It's always an issue. If your friends aren't serious players, they are going to assume that you're playing straight-forward against them, if not soft, and might be upset if they catch you bluffing them. This can be profitable and/or, it can start a fight. Real poker friends, though, it should be cool. Bragging rights, imo.

Sabr, feel your pain man. It really sucks when your baby looks like it's just a couple thousand in body damage, but underneath the suspension and frame are f'ed. Been there twice, man. Sorry.

But if a new player walks up to the table are you going to announce your staking deal when he sits down? That's the upfront thing to do but it reminds everyone to take the game seriously and be observant.

This was in Barry G's book and he left it unanswered because there is no comfy solution

Got a request to go to Vegas short-notice to teach the basketball team during the Mountain West Conference tournament. Team's staying at MGM Grand. Mpethy, what are your working hours? Might drop in to say hi and buy you a frosty beverage in thanks for your many insightful posts. (Then table change to try and stack you for bragging rights. )

Yet another gross session tonight.
Lost with sets 3 times and still managed +438
03-06-2012 , 01:16 AM
I'll PayPal you 10% of mpethy's stack if you stack him.
03-06-2012 , 01:24 AM

Sold. Offer is capped at $10, and you really shouldn't play with mpethy when he's on a heater, ie stack over $100.
03-06-2012 , 01:32 AM
Solid advice, imo.

But I've always wanted to play against you.

I thought maybe we were on the same flight and everything man. Sheesh. Couldnt even wait ten more days.

Last thing I ever want is to sit next to a 2+2'er on a flight...unless of course she's a hawtie.

Any winning session is a victory! Haha.
Was pretty yucky.

I almost folded bottom set.
Hero in bb with 33. EP raises to 8 gets 3 callers I call.
Flop 935
Hero checks ep bets 18 call call raise to 50. (I almost folded at this point- but the person that raised was deep stack and he could be doing this with any 9x or overpair) Hero calls, ep folds one guy shoves 130 total, guy calls I call. Turn is 7. Check/check. River is 7 I lead 150 hoping to get some kind of value as he never checks a higher set ott. He folds Villain shows 55

Because instead of prop betting you'd rather ?????
03-06-2012 , 01:55 AM
I did put a pretty bad beat on someone for his 80bb though haha.
Straddle pot - hero in sb with KK. Folds to lp who raises to 20. BTN calls (has about 70bb). I shove lp calls btn folds.
Flop J38
Turn 5
River 2
Villain shows KK
Ship it!

Moar bbv
Limped 5 to hero with A9 in sb. I complete.
Flop is A56 I bet 10 mp and lp call.
Turn is J I bet 35 fold lp call. River is 9 I shove (he has about 80 behind) and he tank calls with 78

LOL at the last hand.

I played one like that a few weeks ago where villian tanked with the nuts, and then claimed "I thought we might be chopping"

Won't let me edit zzz.

Another cool hand- All sitting with ~250bb
Old reg1 limps - usually pretty nitty but I've seen him spazz a few times.
Old reg2 raises to 10 - pretty fishy, plays in higher games; gives hero a lot of credit all the time (no idea why)
Folds to hero in bb with 45 calls / OR1 call.
Flop 3QT
Hero - leads 14(31)(I'm only getting raised here by overpairs/QT[OR2 raise AQ/KQsometimes]/sets - if I check I know I'm facing a 20-30 bet. I rarely lead here and doubt either is paying attention to sizing, but if they are I have no history of doing this with them, but again for some reason they give me a lot of credit.) OR1 calls OR2 calls. At this point I know neither has a strong hand here.
Turn (73)- Q perfect card to keep barreling as I know neither has a boat or strong Q - and it's possible i'm leading flop with Qx or a set.
Hero bets 55 OR1 folds OR2 calls. At this point I'm thinking his range is some sort of draw(either gutterball AJ-AK or KJ or Spades) or Tx type of hand.
River(184) - 2 brickity brick brick - Hero bets 100 to make it look value-ish
OR2 Folds AT
Yay!

Glad your alive though bruh. Thats the most important thing. Winter tires on this next one!!

Even though I play mainly 3/5 its still a 200/300 cap game. So our winrate's are alike. I'm doing horrible this year 18$ an hour. Last year I ran 25$/hr.

Its very hard for me to save when I pay bills and live off my bankroll. Playing is just like collecting interest on my money. So pretty much I'm in a rat wheel. If I don't bink a donkament or get a decent job(not going to happen) I won't ever reach 30buyins at nl 1k.

What are some of your ideas to trick yourself to not spend your winnings?
What you need to do is separate your poker roll from your life roll. build up a life roll so you aren't taking money out of your poker roll every month by either generating more income (new job/better job/2nd job) and/or cutting back on your expenses. it's really that simple.

I was planning to take tonight as a night off, but to facilitate the above bounty, I'll be at the MGM tonight from about 6:30.

srsly: The games usually suck at the MGM on Tuesdays, so be prepared for few tables populated mainly by decent grinders.
