I personally think episodes 1 and 2 were better than 3 and 4 (loved all of them), but the only show that even comes close to the gravitas of the show right now is Hannibal, and it's for the same reason. It features people who could or did make it in the movies.

The fact that they felt they had to include a set up episode in an 8 episode series has me a little worried, but that's about it. It's absolutely a special show for television, but we really need to see a full season before going nutso over it. House of Cards was very close to the level of TD by this point, and we saw what happened to it.

I'm guessing that by the end of the season, the highest of accolades still wouldn't be overrating it.

That's what I'm hoping for as well. As of this moment, it's my number one show of 2014.

#1 new show, or just #1 show?

Cos given we arent even two months into the year its difficult to imagine it will remain #1*, but #1 new show, sure I can see that happening.

* the new seasons for Orange is the New Black, GOT, Utopia, Hannibal, possibly HOC and maybe even Homeland** now they have reset the clock with a non-Brody season could be better.

FTR I am not hating on the show, I enjoy it and watch weekly, but its not the super awesome best ever show people want it to be to replace BB.

** I think Homeland at around this point in their first season is at a similar level as TD

I don't watch some of those shows, so I mean specifically mine. I have really high hopes for Hannibal, but the quality difference (even though I think in some ways the show is influenced by Hannibal) is what really sets TD apart. I find it hard to believe that Homeland will ever return to the best it was in season 1. TD is still a world apart from Homeland's season 1 (through 4 episodes) at this stage. The difference is that you could convince someone that TD is an indie film, while you couldn't do that with Homeland. TD doesn't feel like TV, and that's a big part of why it's my favorite right now.

He's a figure I find very interesting and have seen numerous documentaries about so was wondering if this was worth watching.
I watched a few episodes of it in Peru. It depends on what your going for. It's more like a myth of him as an anti hero following the broad strokes of his life, but not at the dramatic level of the Sorpranos or Breaking Bad; it's more in line with a typical Latin American soap opera with a bit of gravitas.

Honestly I prefer the documentaries, books, etc to the soap opera format. I loved the book Reina del Sur but the soap opera, while hugely popular, ruined it for me.

Thanks Huehuecoyotl.

I was kinda worried that'd be the case. I was also under the impression it was a miniseries until I saw:

I guess I'll give it a miss for the time being.

Does anyone watch The Taste?

King of The Nerds I'm finding really enjoyable, with Zack being such a good villain.

I'm still watching KoTN, although I liked the S1 cast better. S2 needs some cute nerd girls like they had last time.

I do agree that Zack is a good villain though, almost over the top too much even, but sadly there are indeed people like that irl.

Started watching Veep, I am not normally into political type shows but this is pretty funny. One question, they always use the term POTUS(President of the United States) I have never heard that before, is that fairly standard in political shows or in real life White House to use that term instead of saying Mr. President or Mr. Obama, etc?

It was used in The West Wing a lot as well. Certainly makes sense to use in real life, but I also don't think I've heard it said.

West Wing was really clued in to how things worked behind the scenes, they used several ex WH staffers for sources and I believe had one or two in the writing staff too (they definitely had ex staffers for congresscritters consulting) so its safe to assume that they will use the term POTUS around each other.

Veep is by all accounts far more realistic than West Wing

Have you kept watching Helix? Getting any better? I watched the 1st couple, but it's been piling up on my DVR since then, leaning towards scrapping it, posted in The Lounge also to see if anyone has something positive to say about it.

I am one episode behind. It's more revealing but not exactly obvious what is going on.

It had potential to get good, but it's not with getting into yet imo. It's not a particularly easy watch and so far hadn't paid off the effort.

one of my favourite shows is called "Locked Up Abroad". some really epic stories. it's about people who get put in jail in foreign countries (normally for drug smuggling). i'd say that at least 80% of the episodes are great! there's only been a few that haven't been good.

i finished watching all of them i think, and I was looking for something similar and I found a show called "Breakout". it's not quite as good as locked up abroad, but it's also pretty interseting. it's stories of people escaping jail.

the other one that i heard was similar is called "I (Almost) Got Away With It" which i'll probably watch after I finish Breakout.

anyways... check out some of these episodes... they're only 43min but the stories are truely epic. there are lot of full epsidoes of all 3 shows on YouTube.

The latest ep of Helix was like a flood of new info. Still dont think it is worth getting into yet, but its showing a lot more potential to be good now.

I'm up to date with Helix. It's comparable to Revolution - started pretty bad, sort of getting better, showing potential and will probably get a second season so let's hope for the best! I dislike the new blonde.

The science is lazy at best, though.

Star-Crossed may be the worst show I have ever watched. (My wife wanted to watch it). The sound-track in particular is amazingly amateurish. The score will suddenly switch on and drown out dialog. realize it's CW but this show is shockingly poor even by cable standards.

I was seriously considering trying the show, and then I saw a promo and decided it would be a bad move. It's now been confirmed.

"The CW, we're not cable dammit!"
