His son is the only person on the show who is not a liar. Walt Jr. keeps it real. I guess real slow for some

I think too many people ITT confuse an actor's character likability with that actor's ability to act. For the 1st few seasons, almost by necessity, Walt Jr's character has been one of the most boring. He is the boring anchor that keeps pulling Walt back into some semblance of having to deal with reality.

I think now with both his parents involved in the business, it frees up the writers to explore the role of a teenage kid who discovers that his parents are criminals.

I said this about Mad Men as well, but it applies to BB just as much. What makes this show so interesting is that it can be told from almost any of the major characters point of view and still be a very compelling show. This show would be awesome if it was told from the perspective of Walt, Jessie, Hank, Gus,, Skyler and potentially even Walt Jr.

btw do all shows close out during the summer? If so, do you guys catch up on old shows, or are there some shows that still keep going? Done with BB and now am starting up the Wire based on recommendations here.

After you watch The Wire you just kind of feel numb to tv shows for a little bit.

You're referring to her not really being "dead" until her phone message goes away? You're saying that she's alive because she's still influencing the plot? I have no idea what you're talking about.

Spurious,

Breaking Bad has been cancelled. If you start to see this thread pop up on a regular basis sometime next year, it is just people talking about season 3 again so there will be no need for you to read (or god forbid post in) the thread any longer.

Don't use the Breaking Bad name in your blasphemies!

7 Emmy nominations... I'm happy Aaron Paul was nominated. I'm watching the series for a second time with my wife and I definitely underrated his performance the first time through.

The nomination for cinematography may be the one they are most deserving.

Pretty sick that AMC picks up 27 nominations and they only run 2 original series.

Haven't read thread, since I on;y just watched the last two seasons.

So after many, many recommendations, I recently caught up on this show even though it lost me in season 1.

I must say, the drama is amazing. The last two episodes of season 3 were phenomenal.

I still hate Walt. He totally lost me in season 1 when he turned down help from his old college friends and never got me back. The performance is pitch perfect, but I hate the guy. I root for him to lose. I loved the Sopranos, gangster movies, Mad Men, and all sorts of anti-heroes, but Walt I just don't care for. He makes horrible decisions that hurt his family at every turn, and he's supposed to be smarter than that, and he's not a product of any kind of culture which would instill those kind of values.

Turning down the money in season 1, basically raping his wife in season 2, moving back in to the house in season 3, etc.. I don't get the guy. His stupidity in some scenes is inconsistent with his behaviour in others.

When Skylar tells him she slept with his boss in season 3, I pumped my fist, and I don't even like Skylar.

I also think some of the plotting is really wanting but I'm willing to forgive because the drama is so good. Like in season 3 when Hank discovers the RV/Jesse and then ****s it up. The RV episode/standoff was awesome, but the follow up makes no sense story wise.

I know they said Jesse not pressing charges meant the cops would back off, but that's way too convenient. Hank told the cops everything, and it clearly meant Jesse was connected to the blue meth. Then the blue meth starts popping up all over. It's impossible that Jesse wouldn't at least be under some surveillance or something. Yet, he drives to the laundry/lab every morning without incident.

What kind of conversation were we supposed to imagine happens at the DEA office:
- Yea, so blue meth is everywhere. We need to find the source.
- Well, we know the source, based on the facts Hank brought in, the Pinkman kid has to be involved.
- Yea, but he isn't suing us. So leave him alone.
- Right, makes sense. We'll go chase our tails.

Finally, in the complaint department, the season 2 finale was easily one of the biggest cheats in TV history. Shameful, really, especially since it was totally unnecessary. I guess Damages season 1 was a real critical darling or something when they set out to plot season 2, but wow, what a total f-u to the audience those body bags and **** were.

Nonetheless, there's a lot to love about this show. The parts that work are amazing. It's a step below the best TV of the last decade because the writers continue to make some bad decisions, but it's still excellent.

Season 3 was by far their best season I thought, other than Skylar getting involved in the business, all signs indicate a great season 4.

That was plotted out from the very beginning; read an interview with Vince Gilligan about S2 sometime.

Yea, it was ridiculous. Ridiculous and pre-planned is still ridiculous.

If anything it's worse, cause they had all the months they spent working on the season to realize the idea was stupid and reconsider.

welcome to last year.

also, Matthew Fox is up for best actor in a drama emmy, looks like Walter White's reign is over.

Walt has a TON of character flaws. He's extremely arrogant, self-serving, and impulsive, and he's the type of guy who's been so milquetoast and beaten down by life that he's convinced himself he's a "good guy" trying to do the "right thing". When it's clear (or has become clear) that cooking meth and turning down the Gray Matter money has nothing to do with providing for his family and everything to do with reasserting control over his own life. He wants to feel like a badass, so he embarks on a decision that inevitably will have horrific consequences for him and everyone in his life.

I think it's part of the brilliance of the show that it makes us care about these characters even when they do awful things. Walt isn't a hero; he's just the man whose decisions drive the story.

The DEA doesn't back off Jesse because he's not pressing charges. It's because the rest of the DEA thinks Hank is on something of a wild goose chase with the blue meth (or at least they did until Gomez visits him in the hospital). Jesse's alibis have checked out at every point up until now. ASAC Merkert was trying to send him to El Paso this whole time, and Hank refused. No one else really thinks the blue meth is anything but an obsession of Hank's, and when Jesse tests completely clean in the hospital, that only reaffirms that idea.

The RV story should be a real red flag to the rest of the DEA, but Hank totally ****s it up by assaulting Jesse, and when Hank is shot, nobody else picks up the case because they don't really have anything on Jesse beyond Hank's theories.
