Looks like the finale just put it over the edge. AMC offically renews Breaking Bad for a 4th season.

This was probably a done deal some time ago but they didn't want to let the audience know for obvious reasons.

Walt ordering the kill on Gale shows how full circle he's gone from the prologue. In the prologue he was very driven and ambitious, wanted a bigger house etc, but he lost everything when his partner screwed him. This time round he certainly wasn't going to let that happen again.

i still think gus ordered the hit on the kid
A lot of people seem to imply that Gale was innocent. You could make the case that he was relatively innocent, not involved in killings and whatnot, but then they showed us the scene with Gus where Gale clearly understood that Gus was asking him how long he could take before killing Walt. "3 more cooks?" *look of disapproval* "hmm well I guess 1-2 more cooks?" *hmmm* "one more cook. I can do it in one more cook."

Gale was probably terrified in that scene, thinking what would happen if he voiced concerns. While Gale was not 100% innocent, he was not evil. Last season a lot of people died because of Walt and Jesse, but they were never directly responsible for it. I felt like this season and the last episode was about breaking that last barrier.

Anyone notice how different jesse was this episode after he gets his life saved, hes not arrgant, not boisterous and he even calls walter mr white the whole episode which we have never seen so far.
06-14-2010 , 12:44 PM
Even if it's true that Gale knew exactly what they were talking about in that discussion with Gus, Walt & Jesse acted without that knowledge. As far as they knew, he was innocent*.

AJ, I don't ever remember Jesse not calling him Mr. White.

* - blah blah, yeah as innocent as a meth cook can be
06-14-2010 , 12:52 PM
Yeah, pretty sure he hasn't called him Walt or Walter ever. He's still his chemistry teacher in his head.
06-14-2010 , 12:52 PM
for next season, i could see Gus becoming somewhat overwhelmed by this new cartel threat, swallowing his pride and realizing that Walt can help w/ more than just cooking meth, creating some sort of partnership

Jesse definitely called him Mr. White if he ever used his name, but it was the tone and frequency with which he used it this episode that made it clear that it was a result of Walt saving his life. It wasn't just that he called him Mr. White, either - how many episodes have gone by where Jesse didn't give Walt serious lip for a good chunk of their conversations?

I predict that for season four Walt runs to the west coast, assuming a new identiy, stealing Gale's coffee secrets and opening up a chain of coffeehouses in the Bay Area called "Chemistry".

Also thought this was pretty funny:

(According to someone on the BB page on Facebook), what the Asian lady was apparently saying in response to Mike's inquiry (via Chow) if she was still there (somewhat loosely translated):

"Of course i'm still here, where else can i go? What are you guys doing in there anyway? I need to go home soon, I have children to take care of and a husband who's driving me crazy. Money's never enough and he's useless."

Last edited by nath; 06-14-2010 at 01:16 PM. Reason: clarification and stuff; also, AMC website lists the guy's name as "Chow"

Wow, what an amazing finale to a fantastic season. I actually felt stressed out the entire episode from the tension. It will be interesting to see how the writers pick up the story in S4. Sucks to have to wait a year, I think I'm going to have to rewatch S1 and S2 on Netflix now. Brian Cranston is the Stone Cold Nuts.

that's what you get for blindly opening the door without looking to see who's there
06-14-2010 , 02:48 PM
Note to self: If I ever enter the meth business, make sure to get a front door with a peephole.
06-14-2010 , 02:51 PM
If you rewatch the seen you can read Gale's mind, he's like, "Whew! For a second I was worried, thought you may have been Jehova's witness or selling Amway! You're just here to shoot me?"

eta: "Oh. Go ahead and ask me 'Are you Sarah Connor', because I know to answer 'No.' Lol. Get it?"

im guessing cranston is a lock to win another emmy this year?

I don't know why this amuses me. Think I know the ways it was indefensible. Trying to think up the ways in which it was defensible...
