Reading the new Golf Digest this morning, there is an article on sandbagging and strategies for clubs to deal with it.

I'm a little annoyed by some of it, which is just lazy. For example, this paragraph:

Quote:
For example, a 72 shot by a 10-handicapper should happen once every 194 years, according to the USGA probability table. Anything over once every 16 years is beyond reasonable.
Course rating and slope matters.

Maybe I should just be happy that I'm beyond reasonable.

rating and slope matters, as well as the player type.

I shot 77 as a 20+ cap, and have several other nines in the 30s, all as a 20+ cap. The round after my 77 was a 108.

Sounds like some excellent handicap management

After watching the good good recent video "Tee Flips" for those unfamiliar they did a 2 ball scramble, Every time they hit a shot they would flip a tee and whoever it landed on that's the ball they would take. It looked pretty fun and it inspired me to come up with a dice game I think I've seen it before but unsure as was wondering if any of you think the following would be fun to play.

So its a scramble format,

Everyone is assigned a number if the dice lands on your number then you take that ball. Depending on how many players per team you it goes as follows.

2 players each player have 3 numbers
3 players 2 numbers each
4 players 1 each, Number 5 counts as you pick the best ball, I'm thinking if it lands on 6. You roll again until you get 1-4 and whoever it lands on has to rehit the shot and you take that ball.

The only problem with this is, I can see it take quite a while to get through.

I wanted to ask in the 4 ball situation is there anything else you'd recommend other than what I said. I would say you have to pick the worst ball if it lands on 6 but I don't really like that as everyone is on the same team in the 4 ball and not to say people won't pick the worst ball intentionally but I feel it could happen quite a bit.

I'll have to read that a few times before it sinks in. But......

speaking of "Good Good." Do you think these guys are in it for the long haul? I find them entertaining but recently have been thinking their stuff is just getting kind of stale. Like, how many new things can they come up with?

Same goes for Bob Does Sports and whoever else.

And I know Micah and Grant left Good Good a few months back. I've tried watching their stuff lately and to me it's pretty boring.

I'm actually a bit weird I like actually watching the generic stuff like just a normal 18 hole match or something.

Yeah I think the good good guys are just in a decent spot and it would be silly if they didn't try and get as much out of it as possible. Now they have signed with Callaway also should help them with the content.

The channels I watch are

James Wiltshire - He is probably the channel I watch the most or I find the most interesting. Maybe that's because he lives not to far from me and has played a few courses around me. He is basically a ex long drive guy trying to get a card on the pro tour's. In the UK winter he has been over to the South Africa which has been a fun watch and he gets access to some of the sunshine tour pro's which is always very insightful. I think I like watching someone grinding for something and I caught this guy quite early in his career from what I can tell so it's a story I've been following for a few years now.

Rick Shiels - Only watch his Break 75 series other than that I don't like the channel all that much.

Peter Finch - Only started watching his recently at actually quite like his stuff.

Dan Hendriksen Golf - Decent channel content has gone down a bit on this channel but post every other day now with some kind of Vlog on the course. Has a few decent pro's on that play on the lower tours in the UK I think.

TUBES & ANGE GOLF LIFE - If you're not from the UK, You won't really be familiar with these guys I'm pretty sure. The 2 "host" of the channel are not that great at golf. They've recently brought on a ex footballer (soccer) He is off scratch and he is pretty good. He has a lot of talk and if you like that kind of thing it's pretty funny. He has played some Pro's in matches and he has also played some ex and current footballers from the UK, A couple of which I'm very impressed one that comes to mind is a guy called Matty Cash, He plays in the top level of the English football league and has a very good swing.

I did watch and like Micah but every video seems like the same old same old now but I think I will watch him as time goes on. I think he actually isn't great in front of a camera compared to most of the others, He'll learn though.

Ben Foster Golf - Not sure of the actual channel name but if you type that in you will get it. He is a Ex Football player who has also played in the top tier of English football as a goal keeper. He has only just started the channel and he isn't the best golfer will be interesting to see where this channel goes.

Two types of content I dislike. Tutorial content, Think this is a massive killer to most people's game when they try and find answers from a youtube video. The 2nd type is review channels, For the the most part I don't actually mind them. However When every manufacturer drops all their new line ups for the year its about a month worth of videos of the same type of stuff from every creator, Granted they have to do it as it's easy views and in turn easy money but for the viewer I think it get's pretty stale.

Gotta recommend the Tourist Sauce and Strapped series by No Laying Up if you haven’t watched those.

Yep they did a series in Scandinavia that was some of the best golf content I've seen. Especially the episode from Lofoten Links in Norway which is awe inspiring. Bucket list location for sure.

Echoes on James Wiltshire, Rick Shiels #break75, and NLU Tourist Sauce/Strapped. NLU Film Room's are also good.

Gave up on the GoodGood stuff, just outgrew it I guess.

They are playing a US Women’s Open qualifier at one of the local courses near me tomorrow. Today Natalie Gulbis came in the clubhouse looking for a caddie, and a friend of mine was there and took the job. I’m slightly jealous.

And she's also paired with the former Gerina Piller. That group will have some eyes on them.

Pro tip, get there to watch her stretch just before warming up.

Goddamnit. Now I feel worse. There is an outside chance I can catch the stretching before heading into work though. My buddy is a lucky man.

Surely it would be better to keep the left arm straighter, as a start, rather than immediately trying to alter the right arm position? Also this whole "width" idea puzzles me. When the hands are passing the belt in the downswing, an amateur with an early release has far more width than the pro holding the wrist angle.

Watched this video yesterday so can't quite remember everything in it. The thing that shot out at me was the idea of the "fake turn" bit ... I personally think I do it and that just because as stated in the video its comfortable and safe. I've watched a lot of Marks videos before he got the force plates and stuff and he was exactly like me (Still hit it way further) but always in play and a bit patty down the middle kind of guy. Very safe but not very long.

yeah I agree with that. My main problem is that when trying to feel "relaxed" I begin to groove in exactly that type of floppy swing.

J.B. Holmes entered some small time team kind of tourney under the name Jonathan Bradley (JB = Jonathan Bradley). Someone recognized him, and his swing, and his team was disqualified from winning. Seems like a bitch move.

What a douche bag that guy is. I just John Holmes is just his stage name?

Quote:
West confronted the group, which was coy but eventually admitted they had wanted Holmes to have a good time and not be bothered by any additional attention his celebrity would bring.
Quote:
It was decided that team would be refunded its Calcutta buy-in and no longer be eligible to receive any winnings. The squad could, however, still play for a trophy, which it won with a two-day total of 41 under (they also would have won the Calcutta). Second place was 37 under.

Eventually, the true identity of John Bradley started to circulate, but when the round was over and players came in, the names of Holmes and his teammates were crossed off the leaderboard. According to French, Holmes wasn’t at the post-round festivities and his teammates left quickly (with their hardware in tow); French also reported the announcement of their winning was not well-received by the golfers still in attendance.

I'm looking for a smaller bag I can take to the range. Something that will hold maybe 6 clubs and also has a stand and of course a shoulder strap. I want the stand because I want to be able to clip my phone to the bag so I can record my swing w/ my Garmin R10 launch monitor. I don't like view I get when recording w/ my phone on the ground. I'd like to spend under $150. Any suggestions?

Ok, fine, more seriously. Nothing wrong with fiddling with your setup. What others do you have in your bag? I went from a 50-54-60 setup to 52-58, since I'm a short hitter I don't have as much territory to cover.
I currently have a 50 (nee 52) and a 56. I think I'm going to bend the 56 to 54 and buy a 58.

And no, I'm nowhere near good enough to be doing all this but whatevs.

hit enough wedge shots from range turf mats atop concrete and the club will adjust itself
