Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Randomly watched the So Cal US Open Sectional playoff this AM. Awesome stuff. Was 4 for 2 playoff. First playoff green (all are on) dude makes a 40 footer that prob broke 4 feet l to r. Next dude pours in a 25-30 footer. Next dude burns the lip on 18-ish footer and last dude 360's a 12-ish footer and it goes down.

Second hole was a par 3 and unfortunately 1 guy 3 putted and was relegated to 1stA

Spoiler:
I didn't realize how much bad karma I unleashed on myself with this post.

This weekend I noticed the face on my driver was cracked. I think it may have actually been messed up for a couple weeks because I had hit some weird slices that I haven't seen since the balata days, and some toey shots that fell straight out of the air and went really short. I've also been smashing my irons and my 5 wood, and was wondering why my driver distance wasn't keeping up. Basically I'm a moron for not realizing something was wrong sooner. My member guest is this week so I needed a replacement fast.

I had a 2017 model Callaway Epic. I could buy a used one to get the head and resuse my custom shaft from Club Champion, but that was going to cost ~$300 with expedited shipping which didn't feel good. I ended up going to PGA Superstore for a 'free' fitting. The guy was a total clown and basically said we have this Callaway and this TaylorMade you can demo, swing away... Their simulator gave almost no stats and seemed broken. It was saying my ballspeed was like 135, when it is normally in the low 160's on Trackman. The clown was telling me that 160 is crazy high and 135 is correct. There was no actual fitting and no launch monitor, I was basically hitting into a net so I grabbed a Callaway off the rack.

Tried to schedule time in the Trackman at my course to make adjustments but the pro said it's broken and they need to get it repaired. So I ended up eyeballing things on the range. Used the previous shaft with the new head, and made some adjustments so it should be close to what the old one is. I think the ball flight is good but it would be nice to see some numbers. After the member guest I may go into Club Champion to make sure I'm in the right ballpark, although if I do that I'm sure I'll spend another $500 on a new shaft, after spending $530 on a new driver.

Just thought it was funny I ended up in this mess right after crapping on the idea of not getting custom fit. But at least the ball stays in the air now, which is nice.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

I've had a Vegas trip planned for about 6 weeks now, and drive up Tuesday. Had 3 rounds of golf booked(Wolf Creek, Paiute, and Rio Secco). Rio Secco already got scratched because a buddy is coming into town and we made other plans, and now I see it's going to be 115 and 116 degrees the days the other 2 rounds are booked. I'm playing early, 6:15 & 7:00, and am used to playing in the heat, but ugh, that sounds awful. I usually don't play here if the high is gonna be over about 108-110, but man, it's Vegas and I really want to check out these courses.

Of the 3 you have listed I would play Rio Secco over all else. I just really like that course. Toughen up and drink lots of water!

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Interesting. I haven't played any of them and for some reason was under the impression Rio Secco would rank 3 of 3. Maybe I'll add that back in and play it the morning I drive home. Only 109 that day!

And I probably will just suck it up and deal with it. Lots of water, cooling towels, and shade when possible.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

I have played all 3...seem to recall Wolf Creek being an absolute haul to get to but maybe mixing them up.

I remember liking Pauite the best but none were particularly memorable

Yeah Wolf Creek is pushing an hour and a half away up in Mesquite. I'll have my car and all the time in the world so figured why not. Tried to pick courses that were highly recommended in the Vegas golf thread but still in my budget.

Thanks. I took a mental health day Tuesday. Besides that I lifted weights Monday, walked 18 both Wednesday and Thursday. Lifted today. Just keep swimming.

Paiute is good. I have only played Wolf but I thought it was very nice. Wolf Creek is the one in Mesquite. Course was in good shape as of like 4 weeks ago.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Guy the other day complimented my commitment to keeping my head down when I putt. Thats the 2nd such compliment in 3 weeks. Thanks Gary Player. I can usually tell if its a good putt by the sounds people make when they see a ball heading towards the hole. If I dont hear Anything by the time I think its halfway there then its usually a bad putt.

Re: MISC/RANDOM/BS Golf Chatter Thread

Played my member guest the last two days and my guest did 2 things today I have never seen before. On day 1 he was putting terrible on the greens, but doing very well putting from off the green, sometimes from way way off the green because he was afraid to chip. So today he put his old putter back in the bag to use on the greens, but kept the other putter for putting when off the green. On the first hole he is short of the green and instead of taking a wedge and a putter he takes 2 putters. He puts the first one close and then uses the other putter to save par. I've never seen someone use two different putters on the same hole, let alone do it to get up and down.

Later in the day he hits one way left off the tee and drills a house. A lady pokes her head out and yells something at him, and then goes bag inside. He's super upset because this lady is mad at him and he may have done damage to the house. He tees up another one and then proceeds to hit the same house again. He starts freaking out and I'm laughing hysterically. He gives me this pissed off look and says this isn't funny that lady is really pissed off, and all I could get out was "I'm trying not to laugh but I can't...."

Fortunately the lady didn't come back out again. The cart girl was coming up and saw the second shot and said it bounced off the roof back into play and told us what bush it was by. His ball was in deep crap and he tried to chop it out. The chef's kiss part of the hole was he then shanks it and hits our cart. I told him I'm giving you the hook and you need to pick it up.

Member/Guest is always fun if that's exactly all you want out of it, fun. Trying hard to win $ takes the fun right out of it.

Was thinking maybe some duct tape would hold it a little better? If I like how this feels I would look into some hot melt until I buy a new one.
when you put up the lead tape take a screw driver and roll the tape over so the edges blend in better to the club

Where did he qualify at? I was looking at the qualification scores and I see they play 18 instead of the 36 the US Open does. Also saw the guy that has one the 40+ event here in FL 2 or 3 times is an alternate.
