Good call re: company. Technology industry, jeans are standard in office, overall pretty laid back.

I'm planning on asking, but this is one of those things where the MKT people running the show aren't going to have any ability to put this in a golf context.

Wtf do I wear? I've been to a lot of tournaments, never worn anything but shorts/polo/tennis shoes. I'm not sure that's appropriate here (official company guideline is "sporty casual"), but lol at wearing pants with tennis shoes, and bigger lol at wearing anything other than tennis shoes.

Suggestions?
Give me more context...age/industry/level of clients attending.

Spenda,

Tech. I'm early 30's, will likely be youngest real employee (read: not MKT) there by a bit, but I'm not worried about impressing up. Clients will range from F500 to small business. If we were hosting same group in office, anything from jeans and blazer to suit with no tie would be normal.

Wear golf clothes. Shorts and a polo if its hot, pants and a polo if its not. Definitely tuck the shirt in (in case thats not obvious). Either wear nice looking tennis shoes or golf shoes (I prefer the latter, especially if you have the ones with the soft spikes built into the sole instead of the screw on spikes). A hat is perfectly ok if you want to wear one. Also, bring rain gear if its gonna rain. Even though you have a pavilion you're not gonna want to be soaking wet by the time you get there.

I went to the Masters this year as a client in the finance industry and everyone in our group, male and female, was wearing shorts and polos. Given that both finance and the Masters would tend toward slightly more formal than your situation I think you'll be ok.

Golf clothes and nice tennis shoes. Would probably suggest that since it's Seattle you wear slacks, they look better yet it's appropriate. Not to mention you could be chilly in shorts.

Any spectator that wears golf shoes to a tournament is a moron. Don't be that guy.

Tennis shoes and slacks/golf pants is just as bad as wearing golf shoes imo.

But you hit on why this is a dual issue. The weather is going to call for pants. The work angle at least leans pants. But it's nearly impossible to wear pants and not either be uncomfortable with the wrong shoes or look completely stupid.

If I was going on personal time, I'd go shorts/polo/pullover/tennis shoes, and maybe think about taking rain pants for when it's on the cool side. May be best strategy here.

Weather may not call for pants, but who knows near Seattle. It's likely to be mid 70s most days though. I have a week pass and am planning shorts/polo or golf shirt/tennis shoes with a pullover for the early morning.

The general wisdom on the Internet is that too upright an iron causes pulls and hooks because the heel catches the ground causing the face to close and vise versa for too flat. That seems strange to me because it sounds like you are just making a fat shot. If part of your club touches the ground before the ball it will obviously feel awful and be short, it won't just be a mysterious hook who's only explanation is an improper lie angle like some club fitting sites suggest.

You'll probably learn to setup or swing to not do that, even though that swing might not be as good as a swing with a better lie angle.

Is there more to the story?

It's less about the heel digging, and more about the loft pointing left. To see an extreme example, take a sw from a normal setup position and then slowly lower the handle straight down and watch where the face is pointing. It will get continuously more left.

If your clubs are too upright for your swing you will have the toe up at impact so your club face will be left of where you started at setup, causing the ball to start more left (and have more hook in it than a club that's delivered with the right lie angle, all else being equal).

Going to go way out on a limb and disagree (to an extent) with BO here. A very casual / street golf shoe would be just fine. Just don't wear something with softspikes.

If wearing my True Senseis makes me a moron, I'll happily be labeled a moron.

Your Boss:

or spikeless but still a functional golf shoe:

Take the opportunity to buy a new set of golf shoes if your current ones are too "sneaker-" or "too-golf-shoe-" like.

I'd mostly agree with BO on the "don't wear golf shoes", but normal shoes aren't waterproof and if you're going to be walking around the course much and it's dew ridden or just soggy for whatever reason, you're going to have a bad time. Waterproof is where it's at. No one's really going to notice anyway unless BO stops by.
