I like the SwingxSwing app. It gives you the hole distance and you can also click the picture and it shows the distance to that spot.

gps for normal people

i used golfshot gps on my phone last time out. free, lets you keep scores and emails you the results.
wouldnt walking off distances be more for purists?

I don't have a laser or gps and don't think I would like them as much as getting my own yardages, but I have found that at a lot of places there are fewer and fewer labeled sprinkler heads these days which I think is a shame.

This. I find myself having to ask other people for a yardage too often.

How does it give you the hole distance? That is not accurate.

I got a Bushell Tour v4 recently. Like it. A little pricy. I wouldn’t bother with the slope feature.

I think this off-season I am finally going to get fitted for a new driver. Have been playing a Diablo Edge with a stock shaft for about 7 years, which I like, but think I may be missing some distance and control.

Has anyone been to Club Champion? They have one in Hackensack here in NJ. I am debating whether the full bag fitting is worth it as opposed to just the driver - I am pretty happy with my diablo edge irons, but they are 7+years old also. I also play graphite shafts in my irons which I am not sure is the best for for my swing speed.

Yes did Club Champion for irons about 5 years ago and 3 wood last year. Good experience both times.

I have had the v3 (no slope) for about 3 ish years now. No complaints.

He is talking about distance to the hole. Pins change every day. Hard to get exact distances on a GPS if you can't tell exactly where the hole is.

It can give you the distance to a specifi spot on the green. Nobody ITT is good enough for a 3 yard difference to matter.

Remember the old range finder that had distances based on the size of the flagstick lol.

Also not accurate.

GPS apps are good enough for most golfers, but I've yet to find one that doesn't use most of my phone battery over 18 holes and I won't wear a watch. 3 yards makes a difference to me on a lot of shots and I've seen those apps be off by a lot more than 3 anyway. Rangefinders speed up the game even more than GPS apps. It's beside the point anyway since the OP was asking for opinions on rangefinders and not GPS apps. Nor was he asking for a debate about which is better or necessary. We've had that debate enough here, yet here I am caught in another one I'll never learn.

I did a full bag fitting a little over 18 months ago and my handicap is up from ~11.5 to ~16.5 since getting the new clubs. I haven't changed my practice routine or anything else and am playing mostly the same courses and even playing slightly more frequently than I was before. Overall I hit a lot more bad or completely terrible shots now, especially with my irons and wedges, than I ever have in my life.

When I do crush a drive it is better than my good drives with my old driver, but that's the only improvement I have seen. I also have a two way miss with all clubs now and I didn't before.

Finally pulled the trigger on a g400 driver and hybrid after fitting them at Ping. Hopefully I'll be able to keep my tee shots in play now and only miss one way.

Let us know how the G400 works. I have a playing partner that switched from the G and he actually lost some yardage. He also hooked it more but is in play a lot more too.

I'm switching from a 913D and getting about 8 yards more in the air and 5-6 of roll. Also configured it so it's impossible to draw/hook (got the LST with tour 75x shaft). Probably won't be able to hit it until spring though. Hybrid was super easy to hit too, demod that on the course and it fit the gap between the 4i and 3W perfectly (tour x85 shaft).

I've had the irons in the bag since July and they've been great too, hitting the ball super high and ball marks are always in front of the ball for everything 7i down and sometimes the 6 too

Why not? I love the slope feature...especially on gradual slopes.

3 yards matters a lot on my sub 50 yard shots.

Been looking at the Cobra King Ltd. Has some awesome reviews, and looks really cool. Never played a Cobra club but plan to hit it before I decide on a new driver.

They're not legal to use in official rounds so anyone planning on playing tournaments or maintaining a hcp while using one, should get one without the slope feature.

Edit: I think there are some models that let you turn on and off slope which may be legal if you turn off the feature, but then you'd have to play your important rounds without extra information that you're used to on your non-important ones which seems like a bad idea.

I find it hard to believe that your 49 yard swing is much different than your 46 yard swing.

Pretty depressing that this is the last week of after work golf. Down to less than a handful of rounds left until next year. Just when my game was peaking.

Wife was riding in the cart with me when she said she did something to the laser range finder. I look at it and she somehow changed it to meters. Good thing Google is around to fix it.

Just grip down 3/4 inch, rest is same very little shaft lean use bounce about 48 mph on swing speed radar
