Sounds like I'm a pro and BO I think has his am status again.

Guess my opinion > BO's.

Cant remember where it was now, but read an article this week about how the death of q-school and the new qualification method has changed when ams decide to turn pro.

Essentially, unless these guys want to play the Nationwide next year, they have to turn pro now and use sponsors exemptions to try to earn enough money to get status on Tour, or enough to earn their way into play in events at end of year, since they dont have the q-school option any longer.

Fitzpatrick gave up a spot in the British to pick up a few extra events to make money towards that goal.

any ringers in the Central to Southern Indiana area? Have a 6 man scramble coming up Saturday July 12th. It's a really fun scramble as the holes are all cut on slopes so every once in a while you take a double or triple as you can't get the putt in. Best score ever is 16ish under though(Par 70) by a team full of IU golfers years ago when a course member was on the team. I need 2 scratch players probably to have a shot to compete.

Where is it at and what is the entry fee, amount of teams, payouts etc...? Myself and a a group of friends play Cash scrambles as much as possible in the summer. Depending on the details we could potentially willing to drive down. 6 man scramble seems pretty crazy too, never done one. Im up in NWI but lived in Bloomington for 6 years and went to IU.

If Ian Poulter can go pro with a 4 handicap I guess I should be able to do it with a 2.

Hickory Hills at Brownstown, IN. entry fee is $85 I believe, with $60ish going to pool. 9 teams. Yeah it used to be 5 guys/1 girl and that changed as it was too hard to find good girls. Pretty far from NWI, my wife used to live in Chesterton and that is 3.5 hours from here.

Yeah if only 9 teams that really wouldn't be worth it

Well we have a group of about 7 players that are all pretty decent and try to play in as many as possible. There aren't a ton but usually play 4-5 a year and do pretty well. We will only play if there is a marker with every group. These are all in Indiana and we don't really look hard. If you ever find some in Chicago I'd be down to play along with at least a few more people I know that could be interested

yeah, not really a big money event, though side bets could be big in right circumstances. Just a fun event with some usually loaded teams.

Nitpicking- it's satire or parody not plagiarism

Way to to CGA but let's film that in the summer when the courses look nice.

I'm a 17 handicap carrying all the following in Ping's G10 line:
D, 3W, 18+20 Degree hybrids, 4-9, PW, "U" wedge (gap wedge).

My 100 yards and in club (I use it for 90 percent of shots within 70 yards) is a 54 degree Ping tour wedge.

Here are my issues:

1) I hardly ever hit my pitching wedge. I hit my gap wedge 115 (and have a reliable 100 yard swing with it, too). My 9 iron goes 133. The rare times I hit the pitching wedge, it's good for around 125, but unless it's exactly that number, I will hit the 9 iron for 128+ and the gap wedge for below 120. Should I intentionally use my pitching wedge more or just drop it entirely to free up another club?

2) My game is improving a lot and has improved a lot. Namely, I'm a far more consistent ball striker and waste fewer strokes. When things are working together, I score in the mid 80s. When things are out of whack, I'm in the mid-90s. I feel like my game is getting to the point where I might benefit from a little more loft in my around-the-green wedge. Or I'd at least benefit to have something I could use when short sided or hitting over a bunker so I don't end up with 50 foot putts all the time. Would it be reasonable for me to get a 58 in lieu of my PW?

3) Finally, I find myself needing to hit several very low trajectory shots per game (usually when I miss a fairway, I need to knock it out of the woods (often advancing it a little in the process). However, I can't advance it terribly far while keeping it low enough to stay under tree branches because my clubs gain elevation to quickly. I use my 4 iron for these shots, as my hybrids seems to get up in the air even more quickly than the 4 iron. Would it be crazy to get a 2 iron specifically to use for these types of shots (I would never play it out of the fairway)? Or is there just likely some problem in my knockdown shot that needs correction?

4) I hit my G10 Driver very well 2/3 of the days I golf (really, whether I have a good round or a bad round is mostly contingent on my driver. I don't bomb it, but I outdrive most people I play with (I carry it 240ish). Should I look into upgrading my driver to take advantage of technological improvements/yardage gains or should I just leave it alone since it is one of the better parts of my game?

Appreciate thoughts on any or all questions.
I only count 13 clubs. Did you forget SW? I'd drop one of the Hybrids and add a LW. Seems like the hybrids are too close in Loft. Ditch the 18

Sure, tell me to get rid of the clubs that work best for me. My 3 hybrid (the 21) goes like 195-200, and the 2 (the 18 degree) goes 210-220. I would drop 3 wood first, I think.

1) Putter
2) Driver
3) 3 Wood
4+5) 2 Hybrids
6-11) 4-9 Irons
12-14) PW, UW (gap), SW (54)

Thanks for the responses everybody. I'll be at the range later practicing punches with a 2 hybrid and a 4 Iron if you're looking for laughs.

I still think I'm going to axe the gap wedge in favor of a 56-58 though. I just never hit the thing.

Describe your stance/swing on punch shots. You must be doing something very wrong if you are hitting your 4i high in the air on a punch shot.

Likely either your weight is falling back before you strike the ball or you are releasing the club prior to impact.

more likely he his just too steep when he's executing that shot . easy to do when you are hitting a half shot.

Just take it back around low and finish low.

Why would releasing the club prior to impact cause a high punch shot?

Hitting down too steeply on a punch shot would not cause it to launch higher. This is a common misconception, where people believe the phenomenon of hitting down on the ball causes it to go into the air. It does not. The loft on the club does that.

Releasing the club generally increases the amount of loft that you have at impact. If you release the club early and add loft your shots are going to launch higher.
