Looking forward to an annual 2 man scramble I won last year with my partner at -16. That is all!

Im not sure what the calculation is, but something like this can do it for you:

http://www.usga.org/handicap/slope_calculator/

If you join the GAO they likely have a handicap index vs course handicap calculator.
www.Leaderboard.com if you want to track if unofficially.

Made my first eagle today. 515 yard par 5 with the fairway bending straight right to a green tucked behind water that runs up the entire last 200 yards on the right side and in front of the green too unless you hit it to the end of the fairway leaving ~50 yards in. I smashed a driver down the right center and had 212 in. I tell my uncle "I don't play enough to layup like I should" and pull out 3 iron. Hit it perfectly on the line I wanted but pin wasn't visible tucked around the corner and uphill to me. My uncle said it looked dead on it but he couldn't tell where it finished. Driving up it looks good but always tough to tell how good. Ended up 2 feet short of pin dead on line. Made the putt in the middle.

Shark doctor this calculation is correct. you only have 10 scores so USGA takes the average of your lowest three differentials to calculate index. when you have twenty scores they use your lowest ten differential.

((11.8 + 11.8 + 12.1) / 3 ) 0.96 - 11. 424= 11.4

0.96 is a factor USGA uses to lower indexes slightly. as you can see it is based on your potential. you should shoot net par one in five times.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
course differentials are calculated by subtracting your gross score from the course rating multiply by 113/slope of course 113 a USGA slope normalizer

example from your data score 4

88-72.5= 15.5

15.5 x(113/148)= 11.8 ( drop an number after one decimal place)

good link

http://www.ncga.org/computing-index/

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

course rating and slope for each set of tees men and women are derived by players rating the course for various factors, like length, forced carries etc.

the main thing to remember is this. higher the slope the harder it is for a bogey golfer. course rating is the score a scratch player would expect to shoot.

again example 4 a scratch player would be expected to shoot 72 or 73.

the slope of 148 means this course was very difficult for a bogey golfer.

Once you get an index you check the chart for the slope

again using example 4 slope of 148 index of 11.4 you would receive 15 strokes. (11.1-11.8)

after that i was chipping/putting around the practice green. landed a chip as a perfect swish into a hole lol-- i was just using that hole as my ref point for the hole i was actually chipping to. was still awesome though.

I'd be up this summer for a 2p2 Houston Open. There are a few posters lurking from Houston. Pelican can swing by from Nawlins. nitBO can be chauffered down from Dallas.

Imagine a trip report of me and NitBO playing 18 holes together in the same cart.

Actually I'm very docile and pleasant in person. We'd get along just fine.

All the major cities should be able to have a mini-2p2 Open. Then we can just rank indexes or whatever to equalize the course disparities. Not ideal but good enough.

Wife just surprised me with a real golf set for my (soon to be 2 year old) son (as opposed to the plastic set he has already).
Before anyone says, "well, that's not a present for you!" - you're wrong! This is the best possible present I could have received. (almost shed a tear).

What's the ruling if no one in group can tell if the ball is ob? Both stakes were ~20 yards away and it was either in or out by less than 6".

You have to make the determination. If you stand at one marker and look directly at the other and have a playing companion stand at the ball it should be clear.

out of bounds line is determined by the nearest inside points at ground level of the stakes or fence posts (excluding angled supports).
A ball is out of bounds when all of it lies out of bounds.
you should be able to site along the two nearest stakes to determine this.

All 3 of us stood on the line at both stakes and couldn't tell. Of we had a string to stretch we would have known but it was too close to call with just naked sight. What do you do in this case? Rule it good or no good?

Hah - my son has this, too. Grandparents got him a real driver, iron, and putter set. Maybe a wedge, I can't remember. It's at their house. It's pretty cute if I can use that word. Can't wait to take him to the range someday.

I would side with the player in this case. sorta like tie goes to the runner.

Awesome! Happy Father's Day.

I told anyone who would listen that I wanted a boy back when we were expecting because I wanted a little golfing buddy, and it seems like a sport that it's easier to turn boys on to. He's got a plastic set now at 13 months. He likes to bang the TV with it. Probably wait for a few months to upgrade to metal . . .
