Country Club I've been caddieing at a few weeks here in Dallas had a major charity tournament today. 4 amateurs and 1 PGA pro in each group. Pros included:

Colt Knost
Greg Chalmers
Charley Hoffman
Harrison Frasar
JJ Henry
Hunter Mahan

And the group I forecaddied for had Carl Petterson. Carl was great, really nice and helpful, probably asked me more questions than I asked him. Really fun day.

Pros played their own ball from the tips and top 8 got paired up (not sure how) for a 4 team/3 hole shootout after the round. Alternate shot. Winning team each got a Mercedes. No big deal lol.

Final hole was Knost/Van Pelt vs Leonard/Mahan. Knost just about made it from about 80 yards and left Van Pelt a tricky 4 footer. Leonard hit decent shot from about same yardage that checked up quick. Probably about 11 feet. Mahan hits a terribe putt so Van Pelt has a 4 foot downhill left edge putt and calmly drains it.

Most of these kids look like they are about to pass out from stress. One kid hit his chip within 8 feet, I was sure the tears were coming with his reaction.

Question about the scrambling % stat.

Is this just cut and dry...% of times you make par when you miss the GIR? So basically a ball of the tee OB is automatically 0/1 as far as scrambling goes?

Or are there any stipulations in regards to distance from green in regulation etc?

Why does Ricky Barnes have a presence on TV and commercials? I started watching golf in January 2011 and have basically watched every tournament since on DVR and can't recall him being a factor once in any tournament.

Was he good pre-2011? Every time I see him on a commercial or on TV I think "hey it's that guy with the stupid hat who sucks at golf."

You're saying on a par 4 you rip one out of bounds and re-tee hitting shot 3? You'd have to get "up and down" from 430 yards out to scramble there? I don't think they count that but I'm not sure.

I never saw him anywhere else except for those commercials

US Amateur champ, had a US Open lead going into Sunday and blew up a few years back but no besides that he is pretty much a non factor...i'm not sure why he is the face of Wilson golf, guess they don't have much for Tour players

Had a bit of an oddity happen today. Went out for an emergency nine with three other guys, two on two money game with a +3 and couple of 2-3's. Went to the back, on 12 tee we notice a single coming off 11 green who must've been flying. He gets down to the tee and we invite him to hit and go on. He pushes his drive into 13 fairway and takes his time as we're going about our business. We all get up to the green about the same time and invite him to finish out so he can get on with it. He does so and then starts standing around while we start to putt. Another guy tells him it's OK to go on and he says, "No, I'll just play in with you guys." Uh buddy, we've got a money game going if you didn't notice. He gets another hint that is again not received.

So the ****er plays in with us! He was constantly walking around while we were trying to hit, making noise, just didn't have a clue in the world. Two of us wanted him gone immediately, the other two apparently weren't that bothered by it.

Just frustrating, he probably just didn't know any better. But had we been playing for significant money I know the two nits in the group would have politely, yet firmly ushered him on his way before we finished up on 12.

Random Q:

Got fitted for a driver last week. The optimal shaft was a Motore Speeder 661 Shaft.

This shaft is pretty expensive. Is it possible to find a similar shaft (as far as performance / specs) that may be a few years old? Or is it foolish to try that?

Not foolish at all. Who wants to spend 300$+ for a shaft if they dont have to. Just get the general specs from the club and find one similar and then hit that and see how it goes. In the back of your mind though you are probably going to want the original shaft though so keep this mind

Hoping some pros can chime in on what specs I should focus on to find the closest in performance.

My first effort would be to post a WTB ad on golfwrx and try to pick up a used one. I've had decent luck that way. And just lurk the classifieds section looking for someone selling a club with that shaft in it and see if they will separate.

Trying to use the specs for the Speeder shaft and find a similar one.

It's amazing how difficult (or impossible) it is to find tip flex for all of the stock shafts for major club brands...

I had a lot of success through emailing the company. With a product so niche, most of the sales people are very knowledgable. The Harrison rep I ended up in contact with a while back was super friendly and did everything he could to get me information I needed. Might be best bet.

Bought new golf shoes this year. Bought the Puma Biofusions. Wore them for the first time on Sunday, the shoes squeak on my backswing. I shot around a 110. It threw me off my game completely. It would be complete silence, and then SQUEAK! I had to return them. Guess it is back to Nike's unfortunately.
