My mission to play the top rated courses public within driving distance of me continues this weekend with Copper Creek. Designed by Doug Carrick, it's supposed to be one hell of a treat, can't wait to get the full experience!

Hi there,
Not posted in the golf forums hardly at all and just starting to do so, was wondering are you all from USA or anybody from UK here at all?
Was also wondering what your views are on different putter types, do you prefer 2ball putters etc to blades if so why and what do you use etc?

Shank city again last night at the range It's so frustrating. Thank god I'm playing one of the best courses in the province this weekend too, the shanks came just in time!

Finally starting lessons next week, hopefully we get it sorted out.

Ugh playing my first golf donkament next Saturday. At the end of last season I was a 14. So far this season I have shot a 91 and an 88. Hopefully next week goes better. The idea of driving in a tournament freaks me out a bit, but luckily its a scramble and the guy I'm playing with is a huge hitter.

I felt more pressure when I played in a scramble cuz you feel like you should be shooting super low, and also because when you **** up you're letting the team down, not just yourself.

Did anyone see that chick on the PGA tour 5/6 putt yesterday? Her 2nd putt was like a 4 footer, she knocked it 6 feet by, lipped the next one, pushed the next one right and she actually walked away, marked her ball and then talked to her caddie. lol.

Commence RANT mode now:

What the **** is wrong with you people? Yeah, you people that I play golf with.

When did you decide that it was cool to pose over your bad shots? I mean, you don't pose over the good ones which is nice, but if you hit a ****ty shot you drop or toss your club in disgust and just stand there shaking your head and chiding yourself. You probably just leave your tee in the ground (if it was a tee shot) for a minute, minute and a half while you stare down the fairway wondering what you did to piss off the golf gods.

Knock it off. Step aside and let the next guy hit already you ****ing prima donna.

You're good golfers but you're not that good. Just because you're a single digit doesn't mean you have to put on a production when you slice one into the bushes.

/RANT mode

I swear I saw that **** fifty times this weekend and I'm ****ing sick of it. Hold on to your damn club and accept the fact that you just hit a crappy shot.

people have to show that their bad shots were shocking and deserve their attention more than "mundane" good shots that they were fully expecting to hit

Yeah it's one thing to be in a funk when nothing's going well and your wheels fell off, but to act like you got robbed when you make a bad swing is ridiculous.

Had my first lesson with the new guy last night, it went really well. I've been hitting a lot of thin shots with my shorter irons recently and I was happy to hit a few of them in front of him so that he could see where my mistakes were. He helped me understand how they were happening and what I could do to resolve it. As usual, anytime I'm on the range and/or working with an instructor, my swing feels so grooved. I just hope I can bring that feeling to the course the next time I play.

We talked about my goals a little bit and I told him that I won't be happy with this season unless I reach a single digit handicap. So he assured me that I have enough game with the longer clubs to get there, so we are probably going to use the majority of the lesson package that I bought to work on 100 yards and in. I'm really looking forward to that as I have had basically zero instruction on the short-game since my last facility didn't have a short-game area.

Played with a guy yesterday who obviously doesn't play a lot and probably hasn't had any instruction. He hit a shot that I don't think I've ever seen before. It was the second shot on a par 5. He lines up, aims maybe just a little left of center to account for his slice...

And when he strikes the ball it takes off like a rocket, 90 degrees left and waaaay OB. I don't think the ball went forward more than 5 yards - if that - it was straight left and hot.

You could give me a large bucket and a temporary suspension of the laws of physics and I don't think I could duplicate that shot.

It had a lot in common with an extreme shank, but the guy was right handed. I just have no idea how he got some part of the club on the ball to make it do that. It's almost like he would have to come in from way outside and top/trap the ball with the back side of the club.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Chi Chi Rodriguez was robbed inside his home Wednesday by three assailants who stole cash and jewelry worth $500,000, police said.

Masked men woke Rodriguez and his wife around 1:45 a.m. and tied them up inside their apartment at the Legado Golf Resort the south coast town of Guayama, said Maria Morales, the golfer's publicist. She said the couple was not injured.

"They are a little shaken up but they are fine," Morales said. "He is still in shock because they were asleep at the time."

Morales said Rodriguez was talking with investigators.

The 74-year-old golfer, known for his showmanship and victory dances, is the winner of eight PGA TOUR titles and has 22 Champions Tour victories.

yeah, that's one reason why I usually like to play cheapo muni courses. I'd rather my playing partners be more interested in their beers than showing everyone how good they are.

i've done this with a driver

didn't get more than a couple feet off the ground and ended up ~100 yards straight left of the tee box, i was surprised the ball didn't hit my front leg

Long weekend and the weather outlook is good so far, except for Saturday which *may* rain.

Sunday: Going back to Otter Creek to use up my 14 hole rain cheque from a few weeks ago. Canada's best course in 2009, can't wait to get to see the whole thing now.

Monday: Playing at least 18 holes at my favourite place on earth, Osprey Valley. Osprey is a hidden gem in the GTA with imo, 3 of the best golf courses in the country. My biggest problem with the place is that I actually have to pick between the three of them when I go. Three totally different courses too; Heathlands is a links course, Hoot is a Carolinian wasteland course and the Toot is a beautiful parkland course with a lot of elevation changes.
Currently I'm obsessed with the Hoot, so that's where I'm going to play my first 18.

ahhhh long weekends.

Anyone ever golf in the CT area. My dad lives in the Hartford area and when I go home this summer (I live in SD) I want to take him golfing for his birthday. Just not sure what the best place to play is. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

I'm totally clueless on proper action when it comes to assessing penalty strokes.

On the ninth hole at a local muni, the tee box faces directly at the green which is probably about 280+ yards directly across a lake, with the fairway following the side of the lake, like so --> )

Say I try to bomb it at the green and come up short, splash. Maybe I'm in a rush or there's a group already waiting behind on the tee, so I just grab the bag and go. What's the best way to go with this? Penalty stroke, plus a third shot, so laying 3/shooting 4 from where? Or is it just my tee shot plus a penalty so laying 2/shooting 3? A drop zone? If I can't find a drop zone, do I play the ball from the first playable area on my shots line?

You can re-tee or you can take a drop anywhere along the line upon which your ball entered the hazard or a drop area if there is one. One penalty stroke assessed either way so it's your third shot next.

This is often misunderstood.
You identify the point the ball last crossed the hazard, and you can go back as far as you want keeping that point directly between you and the hole.
It doesn't matter what line the ball entered the hazard.
