Point of Data-

I've gotten some good feedback about the Titleist Velocity golf ball.

It' supposed to be longer with a soft feel.

One of my members swears he's picked up 15 yds. with it. Of course I've heard that a thousand times,
but at least he's loving it.

For those of you that don't have 100+ mph swingspeeds, it might be worth a try.

You got me all excited in the first part of your post. I thought it was the new Pro V successor...

Then I realized it's just the Titleist Noodle.

Was killing some time at Dick's sporting goods today while waiting for a flat tire to be replaced at the tire shop across the street. Tried out some of their belly putters and long putters. Scientifically I understand the appeal (fulcrums and pendulums and all that), but not the right feel for me. I'll stick to my 30-inch putter.

Anyone know how the Olympic golf will be formatted. Like this weeks 64 match play or more like a Davis Cup type team thing?

I too have tried them out at Dick's and Golf Galaxy and I feel the same way. I don't know if it is supposed to anchored directly in the belly region, or if it's just a general term for the putter itself. If it is supposed to be anchored then I would need to find a longer one than just the "stock" ones on the shelf because it doesn't feel right with the posture that I am accustomed to...

I play a belly putter at 45". The ones on the shelf at GG and Dicks are most likely 43" which isn't going to fit everyone just like everything else sitting on the shelves. Apparently a good barometer is the length of your inseam+10". Some Golf Galaxy stores actually have an adjustable belly putter to try different lengths so maybe ask next time you are in there about that if you are interested.

If you could go anywhere in the summer in the US for a 3-4 day golf "vacation" where would it be? This would be to pretty much just play golf and then go out in the evenings to decent bars/clubs/lounges, etc. It is also with all dudes so there doesn't need to be anything around for women to do. I am leaning toward the Scottsdale/Phoenix area right now. And fwiw Socal is out.

I'd vote for Bandon but I don't guess there's much nightlife up there.

Maybe Miami?

I thought about Miami but kinda want to get out of Florida as I was living in St. Pete. It still could be a possibility though although I think the courses there are pretty overpriced...

You're thinking about desert golf in the summer? Well, it might be better than playing in the deep south. I love Pinehurst but not so much in summer.

For golf I'd definitely go either Bandon or northern Michigan.

Pinehurst get's thrown out for lack of nightlife. I interned there for a year, it's not great when it gets dark.

Myrtle should be the stock response for golf + partying. Although weather will be not much better than the desert golf really.

For more creative answers, how about Kohler? I have no idea what the nightlife is like (probably similar to Pinehurst unfortunately), but somewhere to look into.

I think the best option (assuming nightlife is critical in your decision) is to just map out your own little trip. Most resort areas are probably not going to fulfill both high-quality golf and high-quality nightlife.

A few areas I'd suggest:

a.) Chicago

Pros: Incredible public courses, access to the city/nightlife, not overly hot in the summer

Cons: Expensive, long commute out of the city to good golf (expect 45-60 min avg)

b.) Cincinnati

Pros: Good public courses (I can suggest some), good nightlife near Univ Cinci, Xavier, relatively cheap $45-$60 / round

Cons: It's Ohio

I'd also recommend considering places in Tennessee, the Charlotte-area, or Indianapolis area. There are some great courses that are lesser known that are worth playing IMO.

Can't go wrong with N. Michigan in the summer.

when i brought up pinehurst it was from the absolute pure golf aspect. yes not a lot of nightlife. but the chance to play no2 and the tradition make up for a lot.

if partying is high on the list id say myrtle would be a good choice tons of courses tons of nightlife tons of women plus other things to do there.

oh and there are tons of places to play around pinehurst that are first class if you dont want to spend as much money. but you have to stay at pinehurst resort if you want to play no2

Yeah, I think Myrtle Beach may be the winner....

Yeah Northern Michigan is high on the list although not much to do outside of golf from what I have seen.
