Not that this is controversial, but just to confirm:

Up for fade, back for draw.

My understanding of some of the physics is that assuming the horizontal swing plane or swing direction is unchanged/neutral, the earlier you strike the ball/more down you hit on it/more back in your stance, the more in to out the path is relative to later moments in the arc.

So draws should be easier to hit from back of stance and fades easier from front.

Thanks.

I think what threw me off was a clip from Playing Lessons (which I think had Jimmy Walker). He was setting up for a fade and said he'd aim a little left, move the ball back a little in his stance, and swing along his body.

The way it was worded, it seemed like the ball position was to contribute to the shot shape - it may have just been for the ball flight.

What Jimmy said sounds about right; if he's adjusting his club path to go more outside-in, but at the same time, keeping the ball in the back of his stance, it should be adding a little more distance to his fade imo.

I think that makes sense. Thoughts?

If hit correct... Which is not easy, this still makes sense to me.

Anyone? Opinions? Thoughts?

Recently downloaded Game Golf and used it for the first time this morning. I don't have the club sensor thingies, but the current app doesn't need them to work. I'll report back after reviewing the data (haven't looked yet, and after two bloodies and a screwdriver before 11am I'm not sure that will happen anytime soon).

OK, I lied.
How it works: enter your club before or after you take each shot, it's that simple. The app stays on the lock screen so it's right there to use. Also has GPS to green if you need it. I also think you can use GPS to other objects, but I didn't try it because rangefinder.
App will show you a summary of each club distance after the round, and I think it will keep other club stats, but I haven't explored that yet.
Oh yeah, it's free and so are the course downloads. It was easy to use because I push a cart and my phone was right there in front of me...not sure I'd have the same opinion if I had to pull it out of my pocket before each shot.

So it's aerification season around here. What's a good rule of thumb to wait before I play those courses again?

Anyone here have all their irons set to one length ? The top college player who is playing in the open has all his irons set to 37 half inches.

I doubt you find any other players that have them all the same length. He does have them all except for his wedges the same length. There is no way the lofts are standard lofts though, he probably has them configured to 10 yard gaps whatever those lofts may be but Id imagine they are probably jacked up.

Watching the broadcast they said that his irons don't have standard numbers (6,7,8, etc), just loft angles.

Pretty awesome Graham Delaet story...and I guess he is not in great shape right now if a 36 hole qualifier was to much..but what a cool guy!

That was very Canadian of him. Perfect that it was a dude from Wisconsin too.

Years ago a clubmaker (Wilson?) did this, 3-pw. All with same shaft length = standard 6 iron. To get the distances right the 3 and 4 were lofted lower than standard, and 8-9-pw were lofted higher. Never caught on at the time, but with modern weighting technology maybe the long irons could work. Maybe remove need for gap wedge by just choking down on pw, because loft would be about the same

Kind of a weird question here.

I'm going to the U.S. Open next week. My company is sponsoring, we have a pavilion, and I'm "hosting" clients and partners.

Wtf do I wear? I've been to a lot of tournaments, never worn anything but shorts/polo/tennis shoes. I'm not sure that's appropriate here (official company guideline is "sporty casual"), but lol at wearing pants with tennis shoes, and bigger lol at wearing anything other than tennis shoes.

Suggestions?

Sneaky humble brag. Wear your golf shoes, obv....dress like the pros.😆
This is so dependent on the company you work for, especially when in the Seattle area, that it's hard to answer. Id probably ask around.
