If you were using an SLDR, you'd be hitting 18-20 fairways per round and shooting a 58, on the regular.

I can confirm the SLDR is the nuts, especially when you catch it on the sweet spot. I doubt anything else compares.

I've heard the same claim from every club made. Nut nut only true in Omaha.

Ok, so I am reading about the SLDR and it says they recommend lofting up to get high launch and low spin. Given I hit everything really really high as is do I still want to do this? Seems like I'd have to though since the lowest model is a 10*.
Knowing slightly about the design of the SLDR, most drivers in the last 10 or so years have placed the weight near the back of the club head making the ball launch higher, thus the golfer would need to reduce their loft (Obviously I know having the right shaft has something to do with this as well...) The SLDR design put the weight of the club near the face, which needed a higher loft for optimal launch angle.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is correct....

Having the center of gravity towards the back of the club doesn't really launch the ball higher, it does launch the ball with more spin tho(distance killer), however the major benefit is a more stable club head through impact.

Settle an argument for me. Playing a scramble with 4 guys ranging from a 10 to an 18. You can choose between a 160 yard shot in the fairway with a level lie or a 115 yard shot in light rough with a slightly downhill lie. Level shot from both to a flat green. No wind of any concern. No rules about using each player's tee shot are relevant.

115 yd shot. 45 yards is a lot

115 for sure, light rough shouldn't be a big deal if you're setting it up which i'm assuming you're doing since it's a scramble

big difference between 7 or 8 iron and wedge

wouldn't think twice about taking the wedge shot unless there is some extreme extenuating circumstances.

Thanks. The guy lobbying for the 160 shot was shot down pretty quick and then bitched all day about it. We didn't execute from 115 but that was pretty obviously results oriented thinking IMO.

it's not even close, i'd probably take 140 over 160 with how you described it

The guy complaining also probably contributed 2 shots all day so at least he got to complain. Yeah, it is place the ball so basically every shot was teed up all day. We made par instead of birdie and we ended in a tie for 5th. At dinner he said 3 or 4 times "I knew we should have taken that shot from the fairway!" Jesus. Just stfu.

I think a lot of 18 handicappers hit better from light rough than from the fairway anyway, especially if you're placing. 115 ainec.

If it is light rough then 115 for sure.

Should add that my most hated distance between 100 and 200 is 160, so there is that too. For some reason I hit a 6 iron about as well as I hit a one iron.

Yes, I was going to post same thing as Brockton -- many 10-18 handicappers do better out of the light rough due to the "cushion" under the ball. Especially in a scramble when you get to place the ball, and the 45 yard advantage makes it a no-brainer.

SLDR and SLDR S differences to a mediocre golfer?

I've read some reviews and can't discern which should be better and frankly I don't trust the machines at places that let you hit them, but don't know a good place to get fit since all the golf shops use those machines with guys who seem to be clicking buttons randomly.

Check TaylorMades website for any demo days in your area. The reps will be able to fit you on an outdoor range during these if you are so averse to simulators.

I forgot the question was in the context of 4 ball. I would take 115 in light rough over 160 in fairway anytime. If you gave me 4 shots at each it actually becomes even more of a no brainer to take 115.

Well it sounds like a scramble, not four ball but either way 115 in "light rough" > 160 in the fairway.

Curious if your approach was on the green and if so, how close to the hole. I'm wanting to compare that to the probable outcome from 160.

Pro tip- There is a driver on the market whose design allows you to launch the ball with somewhat similar characteristics to a driver with lube on the face.

Generally....

Less spin = More distance
