I should walk more but I always end up using golfnow and they cost less including the cart then if you pay at the course to walk.

I use a pull cart because I have a tour bag, but I think it's easier to walk with a light bag with a stand.

Definitely plan on getting a nice push cart once I settle back home next Summer and get re-established at my Golf Club. I also definitely plan on getting **** from friends for not carrying my bag, but IMO why bother?

I've had lower back problems for the past few years that made the push cart decision for me. They are also practical when playing in the winter rain in Oregon (heavier bag due to rain gear, slogging across wet sod, etc). I would prefer to carry my bag but I'm not in my 30s anymore.

Clickgear seems to have push carts figured out. Three big wheels is the way to go, and they fold up super compact.

Plenty of comparative reviews out there. I def suggest testing the fit of your bag before purchase (unless you are looking for an excuse to buy a new bag).

Yes, I love my Clicgear - nothing short of amazing how they've managed to make it so compact when folded, yet so big and sturdy while unfolded.

I have a small car and didn't even consider buying a push cart for the longest time because I didn't think I would be able to fit it in the trunk along with the bag, but seeing a clicgear folded I realized it could work and got one.

One of the best golf-related buys I've ever made.

I have a cheap push cart (tour trek?) i got from golfsmith. It's perfect except have to detach the third wheel when disassembling. So much easier in general than carrying, and a lot easier on the back. My back/shoulders get really tight on the back nine when carrying even if I have minimal stuff in my bag and take out a club or two.

With push cart I can stuff my bag with everything I need and have all my clubs.

Man I tried carrying but I always like to bring too much stuff and it ends up killing me by around the 12th hole. I'm all in on the clic-gear--got the umbrella and am considering a seat. Eff the haters!

But for real I have buddies who always ride, are overweight, and also go to the gym a few times a week. Seems insane to me because of the calories burned by just by walking instead of riding.

It is harder to drink beers without a cart, there is also less opportunity for conversation when carrying your own bag. If you play golf in large part to spend time with buddies and relax, these things matter.

I spent quite a few years carrying - it does have its advantages in that you get a better workout and you can do some shortcuts over non-flat terrain.

After trying a push cart I never looked back though - I feel less tired towards the end of the round, which I suspect is not so much down to the actual carrying of the bag wearing me down, but more the constant on/off-motion of picking up and putting the bag down.

Also, since rain is not uncommon here, it's so much better to have an umbrella attached to the cart, covering both yourself and the bag, rather than have to bother with the bag-cover and either full raingear and/or juggling an umbrella between shots.

And then there's the practically unlimited bag-space/weight and accessories like cup holders, cooler bags ++ which all just makes the round more enjoyable, comfortable and relaxing which (along with the social aspect) are the main reasons why I play golf.

In my experience, you actually get to talk more with the entire group when you walk. If playing a foursome, in carts you talk a lot to one guy only. But when walking, on every hole the four of you are walking off the tee together.

Yes, I totally understand the beer aspect. For me, I absolutely love cruising down the fairways in a cart nursing a Dr. Pepper and a snack on a nice day.

Interesting fact - last year I experimented with a fitbit. Found that when I walked I walked about 6 miles during 18 holes. But when riding I still walked almost 3 miles! And that's with carts off the paths.

So for those pussies who always ride, you're still getting a decent amount of walking in.

My friends and I all walk of all our rounds together and I feel like the chance to socialize is way higher when walking.

Finally getting into the spring weather here in Toronto; I hit the driving range this weekend with good results and playing 36 holes this coming weekend (early enough that I can rush home and catch Saturday/Sunday masters coverage). boom

The nice thing is that my whole core group of people I play with all walk, so it doesn't hurt conversation at all.

Your friends must be better golfers than my friends. We walk off the tee together for a few steps then one goes off to the right and another to the left and I'm left alone or maybe with one guy down the middle

It's not machoness, I think people just get used to it. I always carried as a kid, then carried 36 holes all the time in college. Then carried every round on the mini-tours. And now carry a decent amount of the time at age 46. It just doesn't bother me because I've always done it. The muscles are used to it.

There are probably those out there who are in much better overall shape that couldn't carry 18 holes because their muscles haven't been trained for 30 years.

Yeah except so do I since half the time I go with them so I don't feel like a dick for not helping them search for their ball in the goddam woods.
