They're not telling you to work on your short game to score better. They're telling you to work on your short game because it will help rectify some fundamental physical things you're doing in all the aspects of your game.

The score will be a side effect.

This is golf, score is unimportant. Looks are everything. Get with the program man, this is the 21st century!

14 inches of forward press with your irons?!?

The thing is, you play chip shots in the back of your stance with forward press. So I'm not fundamentall wrong there. As far as pitches are concerned, I did hit a few at the range that night. There isn't a decent shortgame facility nearby so it's tough.

With lob wedge. Then less as you get stronger. Still a ton of press with long irons.

I let the post where you tried to "win" a debate with me by bringing up handicap last week slide, even though they said it would be a week ban. This personal attack I'm reporting though.

I made a bet against a guy who just took up golf within the last 2 weeks. I play one handed, right/strong hand.

This guy literally loses a dozen balls per round and probably can't break 120. This was his idea but I snap accepted and am pretty sure I'm a lock.

Try playing twilight. Make sure you are the last one out, play a few holes then stop and take an hour or 2 practicing your short game on a real course. Bring a shag bag with like 15-20 balls and go to work.

No offense, and I have no idea of your true handicap, but do you think you can break 120 one-handed? Very few golfers could is why I ask. Heck, I'm not certain I could.

Was quite curious to see your response to this one as I have never really considered this and would think it would be extremely hard. Glad to see Im not the only one.

Brocktoon I dont like your side at all. I mean if there is any sort of decent carry on the golf course, you are sure to never get past that hole. I know Id snap bet against you breaking 120 thats for sure

I've never done it before but I think I'll be fine. I will go to the range this week and practice hitting one handed shots.

The course we will play is pretty straightforward but has 2 forced carries. The first is a short par 4 where you hit the tee shot over water and have to carry about 130 yards. The other is a 150 yard par 3 over water and its only probably 115 to carry the water. My plan is to be conservative, try not to lose balls, and basically just beat him with course management.

Hitting a ball one handed can't be that hard can it?

one handed is harder than you think....you will hit a lot of low shots so those forced carries you will have to career it and you could hit 2-3 in the water before you get past it lol

Today I went out for a twilight 9 at my home course (just a college town muni, nothing special), and the course was pretty packed. In front of me was a Husband/Wife/preteen son group with a group of 4 or 5 in front of them and another 4-some in front of them... so nobody was going anywhere. That's ok, though- I can wait. As I'm walking off the tee box of #3 I see a 3-some behind me for the first time. It was slow going all the way, so they caught up to me pretty quick. #4 is a driveable par 4- ~300 give or take 10 yards depending on where the tees are, dead straight with traps guarding both sides of the front and a domed green. When I get up to the green to hit my shots (I had been playing 2 balls since I was still waiting on every tee shot playing those 2 balls per hole and I have an annual pass anyway so I don't feel like I'm cheating the course) the group in front of me is still on the tee box. As I finish putting out and am walking off the front of the green I hear a thump behind me (like, towards the middle of the green) and sure enough the group behind me drove the green with me standing on it. Now, to be clear- the green is entirely 100% visible from the tee, as well as the next tee box (so they could very clearly see that there was a group in front of me). I was kind of stunned because I didn't think there was anyone that would be ridiculous enough to hit into someone in a spot like that. After I thought about it for a second I picked up his ball, waved at him, then threw it into the woods. Then a second player from the group stepped up and teed off, again landing it <10 yards from me (not quite on the green this time, but over the front right bunker onto the fringe. I again waved and tossed the second one into the woods.

As I'm standing on the next tee waiting to tee off the first guy to hit into me drives up in his cart and "apologized", as in he's sorry that I played so slow. I pretty much told him that if it happened again I would throw it again, and that if he can't see that I'm not the one holding him up then he doesn't belong on a golf course. He wasn't pleased, obviously, but what can you do?

Anyway, my question is what would you do in that situation? I mean, there is no doubt 100% that he intentionally hit aiming essentially for the spot that I was standing and he could see me standing there. To me that's an open act of aggression and I have a lot of trouble just letting it go by without doing anything. I know some people step on the ball and smash it into the turf in that situation, but the ball was on the green and that's not really that much of a punishment anyway. I just wonder if there is a significant number of people that would honestly just let it go without doing anything other than telling them they shouldn't do that.
walk over, step on the ball where it lies and walk away....don't throw it into the woods lol

I think you are a pretty big dog here. Those forced carries seem like a disaster waiting to happen. Not to mention hitting out of deep rough, hitting bunker shots, hitting flop type shots, etc. I think the short game will be the least affected bu using 1 armed swings.

How do you even swing a long club one handed and get it to fly any distance? Let alone flying in the direction you want. I can see the short clubs working out ok, but the driver and fairway woods and hybrids, not very likely.

Fwiw I was just pitching balls off my carpet and onto my bed one handed. It's completely doable. I'm probably at a 70% success rate of having it land and stop on the bed. My short game will be serviceable with the exception of bunkers which I will make it a priority to avoid.

It doesn't seem like bunting a hybrid down the fairway with a short controlled swing will be too tough. Sure, I'll top some and hit some fat but you have to remember I'm playing a complete noob and I'm going to make sure his penalties are enforced and scored properly.

To YB and BO,

Despite you both being expert golfers it wouldn't entirely surprise me if I could beat either of you at golf one handed.

At the risk of sounding cocky, I'm extremely coordinated and enjoy these sorts of unconventional challenges.
