My Dad is probably the worst offender when it comes to this stuff. I don't understand it but basically he will just get really impatient and after a while will just tee the ball up and fire. One time he actually hit the roof of someones cart that was in the middle of the fairway. Fortunately I didn't get the particular gene that causes this.

Meh. Seems harder to set up the tees properly than to execute the shot. Probably took him multiple takes anyway.

A 10-year-old (Lucy Li) qualified for the US Women's Am. She shot 82 yesterday and 70 today. Looks like she'll probably miss match play by a stroke or two, but damn, that's one heck of a comeback. (Admittedly, the course is playing way easier today, judging by the scores.)

Suddenly pushing all my irons to the right pretty dramatically. Any quick fixes?

1. Most have grip and stance down. If you don't, revisit it; no shame in it imo.

2. Backswing (mechanics & path)

3. Downswing (mechanics & path)

4. Follow Through (mechanics & path)

5.Quick fixes should only be applied if you have a big tourney coming up, otherwise, they are just detrimental imo.

6. Aim left

7. Possibly rotating your hips to quick? or club is lagging too much?

(fwiw, I'm about a 17 handicap)

gl.

(What helped me: doing my pre-shot routine to a tee. )

Just watched this video, think it will help

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDHVbroAgOA

Going to focus on rotating my left hip back rather than forward, coming less from the inside on the downswing, and move the ball up in my stance a bit.

Ordered a 60 degree lob wedge a couple weeks ago and didn't practice much with it before I went out on a brand new course with a couple of buddies. I acknowledge that my short game is very weak in general ( who am I kidding, I'm a 30 hdcp ... my cart driving skills are weak ) but I could not hit this thing for the life of me. Ended the round of 18 at like 115 and really frustrated with myself

Got done with work a bit early yesterday and took the wedge into the back yard and just hit around for about an hour. The climate of just putzing around, not worrying about spending hours at the range with a couple bucket of balls or making sure I got in practice with each club made a huge difference. I tried different things, I made adjustments, I stuck with what worked and changed other facets. By the end of an hour or so I had a huge amount of confidence in that club.

I had so much confidence that I even wrote in the notes file on my phone the mantra I had in my head each time I got down into my setup so I could try to replicate it on the course: "Left arm push back & swing through"

Anyone else make notes for themselves for the course?

No.. but on the topic of a 60 Degree..

Took me about 3 weeks to get used to the loft and overall, the difference in swinging it and not taking a mile of a divot with it... Fun club though, once I got the hang of it..

I can't do anything with my 60. Should never have bought one. I don't even think I use it for the right situations. From the fairway I skull it, and from the rough it goes 3 feet.

Idk why most people bother with a 60, if you're in a situation where you need to hit a super flop shot you'd probably be better off hitting it out of trouble sideways or backwards because chances are you don't pull off the hero shot anyway.

Yeah, I don't think any 30 caps should even look at a 60.

Eh, I think wedges/chips/pitches are really about what you're comfortable with. I'm actually decent around the greens, and use my 60 way more than I "should." I just have perfect feel for it and bend it to my will.

Had a 60 in the bag for a bit. I had to come up with excuses to use it. Granted I'm super confident with my 52 and 56, but I never had a situation where I felt like an open 56 couldn't do what a 60 could. Put a 3i back in place of it.

Can anyone recommend a book or something that gives situations where you would use x club over y club? Too many times I don't know if I should use my SW, PW, or 60, or should I use my 8I and just chip it. If I could grasp those scenarios I could shave 3-5 strokes off my score.

The best thing to do is you just have to practice w/all your irons and try different things with those clubs. go to a chipping/driving range and try all sorts of shots. do different things w/clubs...for instance choke down on your 8 iron, try a 1/2 swing, and see what you can do with it. I basically had to teach myself how to hit punch/chip shots in this manner and learn what distances require which clubs (i.e. 40-60 yards I hit a choked-down 7 iron).

60 degree wedge...I don't use it much - it has a 15 yard effective distance for me - but it comes in quite handy when I need it. I primarily use it for greenside bunkers or chips out of the deep rough around the green where there is not a lot of green to work with. I can't stop the ball close to the flag in these situations w/any other club. I've had to practice a bunch to learn how to hit this club it isn't easy.

I need new grips - is it entirely about what feels good to me in the store? Is there a grip that everyone gets because it's the best? Where would you get them online (my Dad has a setup to install them for me)?

What is the loft on a typical lob wedge? Is that 60? Or less.
