Prior cliffs: The small 9-hole public golf course that I grew up playing was bought by a rich douche named Cleve. Land was federally subsidized and can only be used for a public golf course. Held the community hostage & rented the course out to us at high cost. In a dumb display of power this winter, he demolished all buildings on the property and closed the course.

Well, now the city (small rural town) is trying to jump into action. They have estimated that they can come up with roughly $1 million in funds which would have to be used to buy the property, build the clubhouse and outbuildings again (can't express how badly I hate Cleve) and nurse the course back into playable condition.

Ideally this must happen soon. The water system consists of pumping creek water into a pond on the highest point of the property (a really gorgeous, really hilly canyon-land) and letting gravity and a small pump feed this water into the sprinkler systems. All watering is done by hand, plugging in the big copper sprinklerheads that were probably common in the '60s. Yeah I worked there for a summer and it sucked. But a certain amount of maintenance must be done each year to get that system to even work, so if it gets neglected for much longer it probably will be unsalvageable.

This guy bought the course for $400k, and I imagine he won't settle for much less than 6-700k. He knows he has the community in a vice grip regarding this course (his plan all along, I'm sure) and he's a greedy pig in general, so I'm fearing the worst but hoping for the best. The city has a small committee working on it and arranging funding and meeting Cleve to discuss offers, so I'm told, so I'm hoping that if this gets done by June or July the course might be saved at a reasonable cost. Just an all-around sad deal caused by greed. As if this guy didn't get rich enough off of The Prairie Club. and his million dollar ranches and real estate. ****.
all the more reason i'm thankful to have mike keiser as a steward for oregon golf instead of his nebraska counterpart cleve trimble. does cleve even play?

btw cleve is one of the biggest douchebag names i've ever heard.

About 255.

Lol PGA tour superstore simulators.

Luckily I also brought my 4 iron in to compare and was carrying 240 on the machine. Normal is ~210-215.

That's a pretty huge carry for a 23* hybrid, maybe the yardage on the card was off or you had the wind at your back?

Thats what im thinking. That distance is what i normally drive the ball. There was a 495 yard par 5 too.. Pefect hybrid of the tee (Wasnt using my driver because its reg flex and in bad shape).. Second perfect hybrid... Landed on the green and carried straight through OOB. Never been so shocked in my life

+1 inch is crazy. How tall are you?

I'm 6'2" and just got fit for +1/2 inch irons... couldn't hit them to save my life they were so unwieldy. I had them cut down to stock, and now I'm loving them.

Unless your back is messed up or something I wouldn't go much past stock length... stock length is often much longer than it used to be.

What kind of hybrid? a 23 degree rbz stage 2 or adams vts, or any new springy hybrid will go a lot farther.

I carry my 4 iron about 220. I'd imagine I'd carry a well fit hybrid about 10-15 yards farther.

Its the cleveland mashie with a stiff shaft. Im not sure how suited it is to my game but i certaintly hit it better than any other club in my bag (Not saying much!) My driver is tired and old and even with my limited knowledge know the regular shaft is hindering me.

I'm 6'5" and they feel pretty comfortable. I used to have crappy standard length irons and I always felt super hunched over.

so I'm in the market for some new irons and I have no idea how to decide. Do you guys buy irons based on reviews and price or do you look at clubs and whatever looks and feels right you go with.

I mean, how much of a feel do you get hitting a few shots in a shop. Im always worried I'll drop $500 or something and then be exactly the same results as my current irons or even worse. Guess I should just pull the trigger and hope for the best...

how does everyone go through the club purchase process.

Damn some of you must really move the ball out there.

Don't have a 4 hybrid but guess I would carry around 200-205

Somebody really needs to start a petition to prevent golf courses from requiring you take a cart.

I'm an able-bodied 24 year old dude. I want to be able to play a damn round of golf on a public course without having to break up my round by driving from point to point.

gimmie some opinions on posting worse than usual scores.

played a round of golf last week and was quite rusty, made lots of double bogeys. posting the score would feel like sandbagging since i know i'll be playing much better if i bother entering an upcoming tournament.

do you think it's unethical to post a legitimate score that you know is much below your ability?

If you played it, post it. You don't know how you'll play in the tournament until you play it. Besides, the handicap system only takes your ten best scores for a reason.

They need a petition to design golf courses so that they're walkable. At the local munis/average public courses I almost always walk, but most of the semi-private or more upscale courses usually include the cart in the price. And many of them are set in subdivisions or sprawled out so that walking would be a pain in the butt. It's supposed to be a good walk spoiled, not a good cart ride spoiled. One of the nice things about my trip to St. Andrews last year was that all the courses are easily walkable (sorry, had to sneak that in there).

Amen!

And also charging same price whether you walk or ride.

Contrary to most people's beliefs, if you're playing a foursome or fivesome, walking does not make a group slower. And walking is obviously faster if it's cart path only.

augie, post it. I think sandbagging is claiming you are an 18 when you are a 12. Not posting a bad round when you think you are better than that.

+1 to forced cart-renting. So stupid. I don't even play at this course I used to play at because they force the cart on you. Ever since I started carrying my bag - I love it. So much more fun walking up the middle of the fairway and thinking about your next shot.

Anyone who forces a cart upon you can take a 4 iron to the nuts.

Your true handicap is derived from your last 20 scores, selectively choosing which to enter results in an inaccurate handicap.

Or look at it this way, assume the best 10 of your last 20 scores are all under 80 which makes any score over 80 a non-counter. So it makes zero difference (at present) if that score is an 81 or a 99. Regardless, if it's that much of an outlier it will never count. Or it makes it count exactly the same as your 11th best score, which is zero.

In other words post each and every legitimate score.

That's true, but also a lot of 2p2 are in Vegas. Elevation, hot air and baked fairways add a bunch.

Do any of you guys have a close connection with Titleist or anyone in the Titleist production department? Curious to know when this is going to come out and if they will offer it in a different neck such as a plumbers neck. I know they never did with the Kombi but would be awesome if they did.
