If you had a hovercraft that could driven on the green then some golfers could afford to get even fatter and still play.

Funny email.

Subject line: Opportunity to Play Golf with Roger Chapman Ok, I don't really care about Roger Chapman, but he is a Senior Major winner, not bad

On Tuesday, April 23, 2013, Roger Chapman will return to the site of his first Major Championship. And, The PGA of America is giving you the chance to play a hole with the defending champ! Wait, what? Is that a typo? It's a chance to play a round with the defending champ, right PGA?

Two registrants will be drawn at random to play one hole at Harbor Shores with Roger. The two winners will be teamed up with two other guests and play as a team in a scramble format.

Oh.

if any of you good people are members at Riviera or Brentwood and fancy inviting a 24yo 1 handicap English gent for a quick 18 in late May I would be eternally grateful!

soooo, i've lost 40 lbs since the last time I've golfed (mostly bc I want to golf better) and went out the other day and literally 90% of my drives I shanked to the right. it got to the point where I was literally thinking nothing but "turn your hand over *******" and i was still shanking.

I knew gaining a lot of weight would screw up your swing, but the biggest reason I got focused on exercising this winter was because I wanted a tighter swing.

tomorrow I'll get a bucket of 110 and I'm sure figure it out, still kinda annoying, I havent lost my swing on a course like that ever.

I've gotten 3 emails from local courses offering the deal and the club I joined has it as well. Pretty widespread season opening promo.

if you haven't played golf in so long that you had time to lose 40 lbs, the time lapse is probably mostly responsible for your case of the shanks. i haven't seen the range in two weeks and i hit about 10 shanks before i made something resembling solid contact.

getting handsy will not help, it might even make it worse if your club is coming to the ball from the outside.

curing the shanks is actually quite simple but it takes a little bit of patience.

tomorrow when you get to the range, do not start off taking full swings.

take your pitching wedge and try to hit the ball 60 yards, but do it by taking TINY swings and hitting extremely solid shots. like a long distance pitch-and-run.

do it over and over, until you can hit a bunch of solid ones in a row. they don't need to be straight, just solid. just trying to get your body to feel what solid contact is like through the impact zone.

then, you can gradually start taking longer and longer swings, and just re-create that solid feel. no more shanks!

Brag: I found brand new ping gorged groove wedges in the used club rack at golfsmith. How long have they even been out? (They could have easily resold them as new but I was able to snag them for $50 a piece)

Anyway I already have a 52 degree tour s that I love and the clubs I just bought are a 54 and a 60. I think I can get away with bending them to 55 and 59 degrees and have pretty consistent gaps. My question is if I were to do that and later decide to scrap the gap wedge and go with a 3 wedge set up would rebending the wedges back to 54 and 60 compromise their integrity at all?

I'm guessing it would be fine but am just looking to cover all my bases before making any decision.

yep, thanks for the response, but yeah that's what i was gonna do. driver is always the last thing i hit anyway, but lots and lots of short/mid irons working my way up to the driver.

i spent more time last spring at the driving range than probably the rest of my entire life combined. always sliced, but knew it and could work with it. hours and hours of being by myself at the range and i fixed it. so i'm not really concerned about it, just was very frustrating. distance on short irons was off but that's just feel and it'll come back.

but when i knew what i was doing and yet it kept happening...grrr.

i'll figure it out.

How good would the average PGA player become if suddenly he hit every putt the exact correct strength required (for the correct line)* every time?

In other words, if his line is above the hole, he comes up just a bit short. If his line is below the hole, his ball rolls just a tad bit past. For all intents and purposes, every putt he strikes will settle near the hole if it doesn't go in.

Would he win every tournament?

*To further clarify...assume his line-reading ability does not change. But he basically putts it such that it would die in the hole if he hits the perfect line.

Also assume he knows that he will hit it the correct speed every time, so all he has to focus on is the line.

Follow-up question, how long would he spend reading his line before he strikes the putt?
