Thanks for the correction. I read his article 15+ years ago. He's still wrong, so I don't put a lot of faith into his research.

Wife of a friend of mine played against Meghan Hardin and her mom in a team play match at their club. She was not impressed. (i.e. with Meghan's golf game)

Unless you regularly shoot in the 60's you should always leave it in. For someone with absolute total control over a chip shot there are some visual and psychological advantages to taking it out.

This is probably the only realistic way to 'throw' or 'fix' a round for profit. So I was wondering if any bettors/golfers had ever encountered rumours of a player tanking a three ball. Tbh, it's probably more common on the European tour.

Now I have read back what I wrote, I can see it sounds like gibberish

I'll post in the sportsbetting forum

Were you hearing rumors about someone or event or just a general question like we think it could happen?

There is a neat article on the ESPN site about Greg Norman. The topic is about choking in golf. The explanation below is one of the best I have seen, especially the part I bolded.

Experts say the chain of events when someone "chokes" typically goes something like this: When people get anxious about performing, they begin scrutinizing actions that are best performed automatically. This heightened self-consciousness under pressure can contribute to a domino-like chain of psychological and physiological reactions that might cause them to underperform, even when their talent or finely honed skills suggest the outcome should be otherwise.

I was a huge Norman fan growing up and he broke my heart more times than I can remember. The first tournament I ever went to was the 1990 Bay Hill and was next to the 18th green when Gamez holed out for eagle to crush him.

The weird thing about him is he won about 10 million tournaments so he was obviously in a lot of pressure situations where he did well. I'm not sure why the majors affected him as much as they did. Maybe after leading all 4 majors in 86 after 3 rounds and only winning one of them got into his head or something?

Playing Firestone Country Club next week, unfortunately it's the North course and not the South. My great benefits would get me on the South but I would have to pay the guest rate of $270 AND stay on property.

Eff that, I will play the North at $30 instead and not have to stay there.

lol that is absurd price. They do have a ball haul coming up in 2 weeks if you are still in town. I think it is $280 for 4 boxes of prov's and round at the south. Is the North the fazio course?

Looks like a ton of water on that course according to the scorecard. Nope, will be in Monday morning and leaving first thing Thursday morning.

I'm liking the way my golf schedule is looking the rest of the year.

April - Firestone
May - Bethpage Black (hopefully, I know a local)
June - All around Florida for a week including Streamsong.
July - Mission Hills (also possible a NC sandhills course)
August - Cascata and Wolf Creek (plus some others in Vegas)
September - Kapalua

Apparently I need to up my Q4 game as I have nothing planned as of yet.

That is an awesome list you have going. I realize the south is an upcharge but I can't imagine ever playing it for $270 when you can play the North for the $30 cart fee or whatever it is.

Yeah, North and West are $30 for me.

Guest fees for them:
North: $205
West: $190

Man, watching that Norman choke was just brutal. I remember that we knew it was happening almost immediately...Norman looked so uncomfortable right from the beginning.

Thinking about going down to Louisville for a couple of days, anyone have course recommendations in the Northern KY/Southern IN area? Or the Cincinnati area?

You picked the wrong week to come to Ohio, the weather is awful this week. I mean the weather always sucks in Ohio, but this is crap for April

The thing that jumps out at me as being most significant to Norman's melt down is him saying he didn't get a wink of sleep the night before. I find it extremely difficult to play golf if I didn't sleep properly. Given that he didn't get any sleep the night before, it's no surprise to me that he couldn't seal the deal. Norman also had some bad luck with both Bob Tway and Larry Mize sinking some very unlikely shots in earlier majors.

At least the rain is pushed back to Thursday now. 58* with 25mph winds. Pretty much what I had in Tampa all of January.

Perhaps it's unfair but I feel like Firestone is akin to a course like Cog Hill. It's a mediocre course that is glorified due to its host as a Tour venue, without it, it would be a upper-tier public muni.
