I would just hope he doesn't to try to call the police on me for harassing him. 15 phone calls?????? wtf? Did you think after that 14th call, he might just pick up that 15th time?

Just met a huge golf dickhead downtown, was introduced by a friend.

So are u in the PGM program here? No.

U on UNL's golf team? No.

He's going to Florida for golf once he graduates! Oh yeah, what's in Florida? Lots and lots of golf. Cool man, like a mini tour or a different program or what? You wouldn't know trust me, I'll just leave it at lots of golf.

**** you man. I think I know more about the golf world than you do. Typical frat tool with a ******ed dream

Just another dumbass white boy. Send him Rome's "golf guy" audio?

Also I can't believe someone called someone 15 times over a golf outing. Then complaining that you had to settle for... playing golf. LIFE IS HARD!

Caught some of Haney's new show...wow

All I heard was him constantly reminding his students to flip the wrists closed at impact as hard as they could to get the club squared so they'd stop slicing...haha

Hit pretty well at the range today. Haven't been in forever.

Hit several various shots:

Driver
tee'd 4w
tee'd 5i
tee'd 9i

4w off the deck
gap wedge
various lob wedge pitches and chips

putted

Lag putting was very good. I finally feel like I've got a good routine and consistent control of the club face through impact. Short range putting was pretty bad though but it was twilight and green was pretty grown out so a lot of lip outs due to side grain.

Lob wedge was fantastic. I was deadly with this club last year using the 7:30, 9:00, 10:30 Pelz approach but then lately I'd been struggling as I'd been afraid to turn my hips through impact. Felt good today though. Lob wedge chipping was also great. Getting good with this club is key to lowering my score.

Gap wedge was just OK. I think 3 of 6 were good and the 3 that were not I was hitting fat and taking up large amounts of dirt. They were going straight but only about 75% distance which is bad w/ a short range scoring club.

Tee'd 9i was great. 4/4 good shots. Tee'd 5i was fantastic. 4/4 and all were dead straight with high flight and settled somewhere out around the 200 yard marker. Couldn't tell exactly.

4w off the deck was pretty good. Tee'd 4w were good.

Driver started out pretty good 9/14 were considered "good" imo or at least serviceable but the other 5 would have been under trees or in the other fairway. Went back to this club later and they were worse. I think I was getting lazy with my feet set-up. Was too close to ball and swing too flat. My driver swing feels way flatter than my 5i tee shot swing. I don't think that is a good thing.

All in all though I was very happy with all but 1 shot type (driver) and am excited to get out and play a round.

Leaving for Myrtle Beach in the morning (6:30am flight, ungh). Meeting up with a buddy who lives down there and near the Legends golf course. I'm only down there for 4 days, but we're hoping to get in 6 or 7 rounds of golf. Can't wait to get away from the up and down spring temps we're having up here.

Anyone know of any good resources regarding shortening the backswing?

My entire golf career I've fought a late cast with my driver, probably due to tons of hockey growing up. When I was playing seriously in high school I was able to keep it in check and played a small fade but now that I don't get out much I'm really struggling. Over the weekend I was at the range and tried swinging to only 10 o'clock and I found that it was much easier to hit from the inside with better ball striking. The power loss was not as significant as I had thought it would be and with some fine tuning I might be just as long with the short swing as I am with the full swing.

Zach Johnson seems to successfully do what I'm talking about.

i think practicing chipping helps, as well as trying to hit shots 50%..

I am new to the game of golf and are looking at some basic clubs to get me started. I do not need a complete set because I just play occasionally.

I read somewhere that a basic set would include:
driver
putter
pitching wedge
7 iron
3 wood

Are there any other clubs that are a necessity?

Also I am 6'5" so I need longer clubs, how do I know which clubs will correctly fit me if buying used clubs?

3wood is not a necessity at all. I would get a 5wood or a 2hybrid instead.

You can get a full set at any Sports Authority/Dick's type store for under $200. There is no reason to have less than a full bag, even for a total newb.

Or at least find some used clubs on ebay that are like, 4 or 5 years old. That would be better than buying some no-name brand new set from Dick's.

Def look for a used set for cheap.

Probably would want a Driver (10.5* loft), 5-wood, hybrid, set of irons (anywhere from 3-PW) -- just don't plan on hitting your 3i or 4i, ~54* and ~60* wedges, and a putter

Also pay attention to the shaft flex in the club. If you can hit an 8i ~150 yards, go with stiff shafts, otherwise go with reg

Can anyone suggest one over the other of my shortlist of drivers for a high handicapper? Obviously testing them all would be optimal but it would like some opinions.

Cobra S3
Titleist 909 D2
Cleveland TL310
Adams 9064 LS

Thanks.

Anyone have a pair of true footwear? They're supposed to be a minimalist golf shoe, and was wondering if anyone had experiences with them.

Unfortunately I'm having a hard time finding a 14 or 15 to try on.

Assuming you mean True Linkswear shoes, then yep.

I bought a pair in March. I got the 2012 model True Tours. They're different from the 2011 (the 2011s look more like clown shoes). The Tours are the middle shoe in the range - the Phx is the lower end shoe and the Stealth is the higher end shoe.

Had the same problem you did, eventually found a retailer that wasn't listed on the True website yet (Carl's Golfland in Detroit) that had a Phx in the 14 I could try.

Personally I love them. Super comfortable, they really are a lot like wearing slippers. Most importantly, I have had zero foot and ankle pain this year after having several years where riding 18 holes was a painful experience. I have had no problems with slippage and just could not be happier.

There are a couple of shoe threads a page or two back and some other 2+2er got a pair of Trues and didn't like them. They're definitely YMMV. If you can't find a place to try them on, order a pair online, test them around the house and if you're not immediately sold on them send 'em back before you take them out on the course. True has a great (and free) return policy but it only goes so far.

A lot of places are closing out the 2011s at a discount but I'm so happy with my 2012s that I'm not buying - the older shoes do look different and have a somewhat different feel from what I've read. Of course a lot of people like the 2011s too.

Also: If you feel like you need a lot of arch support, Trues are not for you b/c they have none. I have flat feet and this doesn't bother me at all but some people hate the lack of "support". They are made that way intentionally!

Yup, thanks. I found a pair of the 2012s on golfsmith in a 14, so hopefully they fit. I'm looking for something with no arch support, as I want to move away from big bulky shoes as much as possible. Also, more comfy is good as my current shoes are not that fun to wear all the time (though I have no problem walking 18+ in them).

Shoes are awesome. Super comfy to walk 18 in, and give you tremendous ground feel. My balance has improved instantly just by being closer to the ground. Can't recommend them highly enough. (true linkswear tour shoes)

I don't say much here but I really wish I could spend the rest of my life not working and playing golf every day. That would be awesome. Guess I have to keep buying them lotery tickets though .

You need more clubs than that. Doesn't matter how often you play, if you play you should have the right tools. That's probably like a 60 yard gap between your 3W and 7i and then another 40 yard gap between your 7i and (only) wedge. There is no way you could play anything close to a decent round of golf with that and after a few rounds you would think golf is a terrible sport and probably quit forever. You want to try to have about 10 yard differences in your clubs. I'd say 20 MAX (if you went cheap and went with every other iron). But even that is a waste of time. A round of golf costs a decent %age of the amount you will spend on your clubs so don't skimp on the clubs.
