I'm a low single digit and can't hit a 15* off the deck worth ****. It's my lock club off the tee though. Couldn't imagine what I'd do with a 13* off the deck.

I have a 13' 3-wood with a heavy high-tipped shaft in it, love it off the tee, and off the deck I'm just content to hit low cuts and not try to do anything else with it.

I did a driver fitting today at a Taylormade Performance Lab. The 3D rendering of your swing is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Spent an obscene amount of money on a driver (and feel immediately guilty about it) but I think I will find it worth it long term.

The driver I was hitting was a tour issued Superfast 1.0 with a Speeder VC 6.1 in it. Super super low spin, lower than I would have guessed. Launched it around 12 degrees with spin in the high 1000's. Too low, although balls I flushed were super super long for me.

Going to a RBZ 10.5, clocked open so it effectively plays 9.75 or so, with a GD Tour AD DJ-6 in it. I'm playing it 1.5" shorter than my SF, but was getting similar or slightly higher ballspeeds, launch about the same, and spin in the low 2000's.

If the rain holds off I will get it on the course today to see how it is in real life.

That is one sexy putter.

Gonna skip out of work early today and hit the course for the first time all year I think. Could be ugly.

Plan on getting out for first time Thursday. We always have a big gathering for the first day of March Madness, and I have hit the course on my way over for the last 4 years. Gonna be real nice this year ~66 weather channel says.

Whew, fun 9. Shot a 38 today, with what I estimate was about 33 putts

So, I've been hitting my driver pretty horribly lately. I've been missing all over the place, both slices and hooks. I feel as though I have some amount of control over whether I hook it or slice it based on whether I try to come in very flat (for a draw/hook, of course) or very upright. What I can't seem to do is find the happy medium that results in hitting it straight. Nor can I consistently hit a smallish fade or draw. When I try to exaggerate the flatness to keep the ball from going right, it leads to snap hooks or ground balls; and when I try to exaggerate toward the upright direction I get shots that may fade 20 yards...or 50 yards. And even when I consciously try to aim left and play a fade, one of every few drives is a nice draw that dives into the left-hand trees.

Any thoughts on how to find the happy in-between place? Maybe it's an issue of how far away I'm standing from the ball?

Also, FWIW, missing with both hooks and slices is really only an issue for my longer clubs. Once I get to a 6 or 7-iron I may push it occasionally, but I almost always hit it either straight or draw it, almost never fade/slice it.

Some courses up here are opening tomorrow so obv I had a tee-time booked; I called the course today to check on things and they said they have a touch of snow on the ground and they are going to cancel all morning tee-times to let the sun work it's magic. 2pm shot-gun start for the lose; but at least I'll be golfing!

Yeah I got a 1:24 on what will be a packed muni filled with hackers out for their first round of the year. The whole thing will be a race against the sun. I'm still looking forward to it.

That dogleg left on the far left-edge of the course looks brutal. 75% of the fairway is dead because you couldn't get to the green...

If you lay back in the fat part of the fairway you can probably just fly it right over the trees?

Kim Jong Il certainly could have anyway...

haha, lay up. clearly you do not know your golf history. the dear leader would never lay up.

It is claimed that when Kim Jong Il opened the course in 1987, he shot a world record 38 under par on his first ever round of golf (including 11 hole in ones!)

He probably had to saw off 6" on his clubs so that he could use them

Just won Paul Azinger's trivia contest on twitter. Won a copy of his Cracking the Code book and a T-Shirt for answering this:

Q. Which multiple Masters champ spent his spare time as a singer & comedian in night clubs during tour stops?
