It comes down to cost per hole played, b/c the pro-freebie crowd could make the same arguments for paying for the first 18, because in all reality the only cost once you're out there is the service you're receiving and the wear and tear on golf carts and the course.

The better (still not good) fast food analogy could be free refills, as once you have the cup and have already been served (and thus are filling the cup yourself) the drink+ice costs virtually nothing.

For the record, I was in no way saying I was "entitled" to keep playing.

I had just never played anywhere that had that kind of rule, so I thought it was a really nitty was of doing business.

It was a really unpleasant end to an awesome day of golf since the course was so awesome, nice weather, and nobody there. I worked as a pro at two courses for a few years. If anyone ever came in and wanted to play more, I was like, "sure, have fun, come back and see us again" Instead they try and charge us $20 for what was at the most 9 holes. Now they'll probably never see us again. It was just really rude how they handled the whole thing imo.

hey do you guys watch the big break at all?

These guys (and more so wemmin) seem to suck at golf. Now i know if they were good, tehy would be pro. But still, i would think they would get dudes that are really good players maybe a few has beens that maybe have struggled with teh yips or injuries.

Spenda/Ship/Trout. Have you heard of these people?

Against a random big breaker how much a favorite would you be?

I kinda knew a girl who made a deep run a few seasons ago, but heard about her experience threw other people. Anyways the show is set up in a way where it's hard to be anywhere near prepared to play good golf and it obviously has a hard time rewarding the best overall golfer there. Players sit around all day, have to wait for camera crews, and are generally just not in a mindset you find yourself in on the golf course ever.

I was impressed by Kontak and Derek Gillespie who both won their seasons.

Follow up to my previous post about buying lunch at the turn.

Was golfing Saturday and the 3rd tee (par 3) was backed up like it usually is. I walk to the clubhouse to grab more beer (short walk). As I'm walking out one of the 2 guys we got paired up with is walking into clubhouse (to get beer I assume).

3rd green clears and 3 of us tee off. We're waiting for moron to come back. Meanwhile, the group behind us is now at our tee box.

Our 4th finally comes strolling back, with, a ****ing order of french fries. Are you kidding me?

Kontak is a very good player. A Rod was my teammate at A&M so yeah, I know him well. He was incredible in college and played on Tour for a year. Just has a huge chip on his shoulder otherwise he would be a world beater. He has finished 2nd twice this year on the tight lies tour so I would assume he is entered in Q School.

I can't see AT ALL where you have a right to feel that they were being rude. I'm sorry you misunderstood what a twilight rate is. Also, just because you personally give product away (product that you don't own. you just work for the owners, remember?) does not mean that everyone should do the same.

Now, I've given away as much free golf as the next ex-pro, but I wouldn't feel slighted if someone wanted to stick to the rules that their business owners have set. The girl that works at the coffee shop in the hotel I work at often gives me free stuff, but I always have money in hand when I go up there. I expect to pay every time. Sometimes she doesn't take my money. Sometimes her boss is around or other employees are around that aren't as lax as she is. I don't get mad when she doesn't give me free stuff. I'm just happy that she hooks me up as much as she can without putting her job at risk. I'm sure the $1 that she's saving me each day isn't worth her $20,000 a year. She doesn't even get anything out of giving me free stuff. I have nothing to give in return. I can't believe you're butt-hurt about this, calling them rude because they didn't offer you free golf. Maybe the owner was browsing around the golf shop. You never know.

I know what it's like to have to pay for golf after getting out of the business. It sucks, but you can't expect all the perks of being a pro when you're no longer a pro. Did you try to play the "I used to be a pro. C'mon." card? It's your decision to not play at that course again over this, but realize that you feeling wronged is completely irrational.

Simmer down homie.

It wasn't rude that they didn't let us play for free, it was rude how they handled it. Those aren't the same.

I also stated in my OP that I brought my wallet in with me. I obviously wasn't just going in making demands.

In absolutely no way did Westhoff nor I make any demands. We asked if we could keep playing, expecting (off previous golfing experiences) for them to let us go. They acted like pompous jerks, and wanted to charge us 20$. We declined. We left.(once again, they acted like pompous jerks AND tried to charge us, NOT they tried to charge us 20$, therefore WERE pompous jerks)

Quit trying to be internet sleuth super stars based off a very brief synopsis of what was going on. When I wrote the question, I wasn't focusing on the actual interaction I had with the people on the pro-shop, rather the situation in general.

All I wanted to know was if this was standard, because in our experience it wasn't. If lots of courses charge this fee, then they were totally within their rights to ask us to pay the replay fee. But that still doesn't excuse them being jerks about it. But I really don't give two ****s about them being rude, it wasn't even in my OP, but for some reason you guys felt like psychoanalyzing it.

Oh, and I'm simmered, homie. I'm speaking plainly.

*2nd edit* I just went back to play super internet slueth. No one mentioned that they were being rude until westhoff's last post and it was the first time either of you mentioned them being rude, and it definitely didn't imply that their being rude was for anything other than the replay rate.

Now you have said that they were rude in addition to wanting to charge you. Story told and cleared up. Carry on =P

I see what any is saying. If the pro let's you go it is good for everyone involved. One, the bag guy is going to make about 5-10 bucks just off cleaningone cart down, two you build a good rapport with a paying customer. This is a rare instance In which guys at counter were being shortsighted. Having worked in a bag shop for over 5 years, I would love when the pros would "hook" people up. Usually it was because they knew that it was slow etc, and I wasn't making anything but had to be there anywyas

So I got the Puma shirt I ordered from Kingdom59. Everything seems to be legit with them.

But....I am apparently an idiot and didn't look closely at what I ordered. The shirt has a zippered front instead of buttons, and I don't like the zippered look.

This is the shirt: Puma Plain Performance Shirt

Anybody interested in buying it from me? It's white and an XL. Looks like the going price online is $60-$70, but I will obviously let it go for the $40 I paid, including shipping.

I would never do that. And they were rude. They could've been like, "i'm sorry guys but owners say we gotta charge, the best rate I can you give you is X" Or basically anything other than what they did.

And when I would let people go back out for free, I'm not slighting the owners and just giving away free golf. It's just good business, everyone's happy. The golfers get more golf, and they probably buy more beers + come back again.

you said "french fries are a fixed cost." This is not right.

def of fixed cost: "In economics, fixed costs are business expenses that are not dependent on the level of goods or services produced by the business....This is in contrast to variable costs, which are volume-related (and are paid per quantity produced)."

French fries are clearly a variable cost. The more McD doles out, the more they have to order each day, they more they have to pay for. I.E. their costs go up with the amount of french fries they buy.

You seem to think that "fixed cost" means "there is an actual (fixed) number attached to the cost of this good."

"There is an actual numerical answer to this, and a very simple one, I'm sure any mcdonalds manager would know."

This is true, but this doesn't mean that french fries are fixed costs.

My friend is a member at some private club in Mississauga, Ontario. I caddied for him at his club championships earlier this summer and the course was impressive even to my rookie golfer instincts.

Here's a link: Mississaugua Golf & Country Club Scorecard

They dropped the green fee for guests for the rest of the year from $170 to $85. I'm going to be playing it on Sunday. Pretty pumped to pay stupid amounts to hack up a good course.
