Speaking of frivolous lawsuits in USA#1 I guess the new in thing now is bike riders purposefully riding into cars at low speed, feigning injuries, and suing. There are actually some pretty good videos of this in the inter webs that pop up from time to time.

Been tempted but not pulled the trigger. Will wait for more reviews.

I've seen this happen before. 12 years ago. Nothing new.

Dash cameras ftw

12 hour days aren't too bad*.

*Unless you like time to relax, then it sucks. I pretty much eat, sleep, shower, work, and ice my arm everyday. No real time to do much else. Probably would suck even more if you had to commute anywhere. Or prepare your own meals.

I'm in the opposite situation of BB right now. Hello vacation for the next 2 weeks. Hopefully I am sufficiently conditioned from the last couple years of heavy singles on 2-3 minutes of rest to climb mountains.

Crazy talk.

12 hour days are fine in bunches imo. Idk what it would feel like now but I used to get 2 jobs and work 70 hour weeks during the summers but I always knew it would be over after 3 months and I could go back to being a worthless lump of a college student drinking 4 nights a week; which helped psychologically. And I was young enough not to give a **** physically.

I agree. The temporary nature of an unbearable situation makes it bearable. When you are in an unbearable situation "for the foreseeable future," kill me now.

Agreed. Like a brainfreeze.

I worked 70-80 hour weeks in the Navy, but I was a teenager with an overactive thyroid. So energy was never a problem.

****, 40 hour weeks are brutal now.
06-11-2015 , 07:15 PM
bb, you've only got yourself to blame for this...

bb: hi boss, my project is going to take 400hrs to complete. So 10 weeks. kthnx

boss: but we need it in 6 weeks. ok, you're working 60hr weeks and some weekends.

If you had just lied in the first place and said it was going to take 240hrs, then let it run a few weeks late, everything would have been fine.

Looks like I should only have to work mostly 12 hour days (Monday-Saturday, they let us work only 8 hours on Sunday) until the end of August. I knew going into this it would be a long-short term situation. January through August, getting an average of 1 week off per month. Sometimes it is 3 weeks on, 1 week off, but this time it is 7 weeks on and 2 weeks off. Not sure I would be able to do this for longer than it is currently planned.

What big poppa said

But I would consider it even now except there is 0 chance this comes in on time regardless of how many hours we work. The timeline is not even close to reality. I would guess this would drag on until early next year.

On top of that, the reality is, out of the 12 hours I would be there, 3 would be dealing with non-project emergencies, 2 on needless TPS reports, and 2 more in various non-productive meetings with managers not helping at all.

I think I have 3 options

1) Work a lot of hours
2) Quit
3) Not work a lot of hours until they fire me.

I'm pretty sure I'm going with 3.

+1 Looking forward to my trip to California with the family, then to Vegas with the wife and friends. Total of 7 weeks off. Team in India is handling anything that comes up while I'm out.

4) Farm out the work to your team in India/China/Romania. Take credit for bringing the project in on time, get promoted to manager. Take vacation.

5) Otherwise take control of the situation, especially the bull**** non-project work and meetings. Enforce accountability on a daily basis. Work on your resume, adding this project to it. Quit when it gets to alpha/beta/whatever milestone is reasonable. Poach anyone that turned out to be useful.
