Cuz it's terrible.

Priscilla is nice cuz you can make it Sil for short.

Natalie GOAT

I like Zelda but don't do it

Priscilla cool if you want her to get called Prissy
12-25-2015 , 04:44 PM
My mom's name is Natalie, so I'm obviously biased; other three are various levels of not great.

Had we had a daughter, we were pretty locked in on Charlotte.
12-25-2015 , 04:46 PM
If my son had been a girl, she'd have been named Rebecca and called Becky.
12-25-2015 , 04:54 PM
One more for Nat. I like Rebecca too. Also agree that the other three are various degrees of suckage.

Merry Christmas everyone!

HAHAHAHA, we have had that up here for a while. GR must be really backwoods.

Would Zelda be a really bad idea or fine idea? It seems obv to be the only risky one of the bunch.
I don't like Zelda, but it isn't horrible. For either sex I say try to name him/her something that doesn't lend itself to be easily mocked by other kids. For girls, try not to name her as a stripper/porn name.

The mistake being made is that of asking anyone else's opinion about baby names.
12-25-2015 , 05:35 PM
Sounds more like he was seeking support for his anti Zelda position.
12-25-2015 , 05:40 PM
Well, yes, asking is always a mistake, but going with a name that ends up really bad is worse. I like Zelda BTW bc its so unique. The problem of course is the video game. It still seems to be popular with no real slowdown.
12-25-2015 , 05:46 PM
Almost anything is going to be acceptable in relation to "zelda".

I don't know why people make such a big deal about this. I think getting opinions is fine. Just remember that you're free to ignore them. Who knows, you may get an idea about a name (good or bad) that you didn't think of yourselves.

Asking advice should be key.

You don't name a kid as an expression of your unique Special Snowflakeness.

You're picking a name that a person will carry through their entire life. Picking one that won't get them mocked and has positive connotations should be top priority.
12-25-2015 , 05:57 PM
Soulman, that looks amazing.

Aidan's looks pretty good too, but my unrefined palate strongly prefers chocolate deserts over all others, so I'm never drooling over that one. But it certainly looks expertly done.

Would def smash the semifreddo. Slightly too frozen though Aidan?

I think that these are strong considerations, but everyone is trying to thread the needle by picking something that satisfies those requirements but is also somewhat unique. The problem is that whenever anyone comes up with one of those, it tends to get copied with impunity, thus nullifying the uniqueness.
12-25-2015 , 06:06 PM
I named my son Billy. A girl would have been Becky.

Uniqueness obviously not a priority.

It was made too far ahead of time out of necessity. Sliced it before dinner so it was nice and soft for serving though

I feel pretty safe about : thumb: -ing then : thumb:

Opinions vary, naturally but it kind of seems like people who had generic/popular names "hate" that and desire more unique names for their kids. Kids with unique names hate that too and desire more common names for their kids. Spoiler alert: being a kid kind of sucks and most people think their personal situations are unique instead of universal.

That said, although your kid might not like having a common name like Mark or Bill or Jason, he's unlikely to really curse you for it, unlike people who have a really unique name and don't like it.

(Rusty is my real given name, we named my son William)

Unique is overrated, because it leads to names like Zelda and Cloud.
12-25-2015 , 06:24 PM
I have a very unique first name (am only aware of one other person in the world with it) and while childhood was brutal, I suspect childhood is brutal no matter what, and I grew to love my name.
12-25-2015 , 06:28 PM
What's this being a kid sucks all about? Childhood pretty great.

Oddly enough my name was kinda unique where I grew up even though it's common in Boston 50 miles away.

Potato def a pretty unique name.
12-25-2015 , 06:32 PM
Its cyclical, too. My name was fairly unique, not many people of my age have it but it got ridiculously popular somewhat recently. Bunch of poor kids getting called AIDS all over the place.
