Samosas literally on every corner.

When I think I'm getting sick I try to sleep and make sure I drink a bunch of water. And I don't push myself as hard at work or lifting or whatever could be high stress.

So you're saying you keep lifting normally, then?

What I do now when I feel a cold coming on: up the vitamin C and fluid intake while resting more.

What I used to do: drink screwdrivers as I got more vitamin C and let the alcohol kill everything the vitamin c didn't.

Verdict is out which one works better.

Rest > Vitamin C at onset stage.
12-12-2015 , 05:28 AM
Didn't someone link a study here a few months ago which said that taking extra vitamin c did absolutely nothing?
12-12-2015 , 10:39 AM
I tell people "I'm getting a cold" then fake sneeze on them.

Up my regular dose of whiskey.

Just took a bite of my first zekos gyro. Won't be my last. So good.

I'm pretty sure vitamin c does nothing unless mayyyybe taken in super high doses. But placebo so all of those things that don't work may actually help .

I usually get my vitamin c from orange juice. Maybe the increase in fluid intake is what actually helps.

I'll second OJ > vitamin C. extra cals and fluids and placebo.

My doctor said zinc lozenges right at the first signs of a cold help, but god damn I can not stand them. So gross. It's like sucking on a penny.

There is no proof that any of that crap works. The best (only) thing you can do is get plenty of rest and liquids. Personally I drink a lot of tea with honey and lemon when I get sick because it feels good for the throat.

So does whiskey, which as I already explained above is the correct move.

I'm having a nice little glass of Four Roses single barrel. It's getting the job done.

that's the good stuff right there. I haven't had that in a while. I got a bottle of it and it's small batch kin in the basement I need to open some day soon but I don't have any room upstairs to open anything new yet. Most of what I have upstairs open is more expensive, barrel proof stuff, that I have been nursing on and in no hurry to finish off: wild turkey rare breed, kentucky spirit, russels reserve single barrel, stagg jr, elijah craig barrel proof, bookers, rock hill farms, etc.

I did a whiskey tasting recently that was very different than anything I'd ever seen before. It was the same whiskey of 4 different ages - and all the ages were *very* young.

One was straight out of the still, no aging
One was 3 months
One was 5 months
and the last I don't remember - 9 or 10 months.
Oh and these were all cask-strength.

It was pretty interesting, and actually I'd have probably rather tried
0 months
1 year
3 years
10 years
and maybe another at 16 or 18 or something.

The unaged was similar to gin - kind of really floral/herbal and very harsh. But once you'd had a few sips it was basically drinkable.

young and/or small barrel aged bourbon/whskey is awful IME. I have a couple bottles of some young, small barrel aged stuff from a local micro distillery that is pretty much undrinkable in the basement. I even tried blending it with other older bourbons I like in ratios favoring the older stuff and still didn't like it. I will probably end up just pouring it out if my thoughts haven't changed when I taste it next. I wanted to give it a try, and support a local business, but didn't want to leave my guns at home to be able to taste a glass so I just bought the bottles....

We do have a local distillery that makes a decent bourbon that is aged 4+ years, in big barrels, but it's done in a climate controlled warehouse.

If any of you bourbon drinkers haven't tried a 'last pours decanter' I highly recommend it. I usually measure my drinks 1.5 ounce at a time. When I get to the bottom of a bottle and don't have enough for a jigger/pour then it goes into a decanter. The resulting mingle/vatting has always tasted amazing. Speaking of which, I haven't tasted it in a while so that may be my next pour tonight now that my eagle rare bottle is low enough to get dumped into it.
