Hey guys, I have a couple of Christopher Ward C9 Harrison Automatic , decided to part with the black dial version of it (dress watches).

Currently it is listed on eBay for a higher price (damn eBay fees) but here I am willing to let go of it for £525 shipping included anywhere in the EU , or $800+ you pay shipping anywhere else in the world (currently located in Ro, but I travel a lot on the poker circuit so can accommodate some requests for delivery in person).

A couple pics:

What does your wife do and what does she like? Is she brand concious? Does it have to be new?

I would never spend 2k on an SOs watch who's criteria was as simple as: not leather and recognizable brand.

If that is her true wishes the chances of her understanding the difference between a 200 and 2k watch is nearly zero. Just buy her a Michael Kors and a Starbucks gift card and be on your way IMO.

But I also have a distaste for anyone who is buying something for the brand

She is a white collar recruiter in the insurance industry. That is she headhunts candidates for hard to fill $70k - $200k+ roles.

I share your distaste for her focus on brand over quality but it's hardly a defining characteristic so I can let it slide. To be fair there is a significant overlap here too where recognizable luxury brands are also quality...

It's silly to me but her logic would be that is she has an expensive watch other people should recognize this....

Perhaps ignore my original criteria and just give a couple examples of what you as watch experts might choose in that price range to get me started?

It wasn't necessarily a statement towards brands not being quality just that it seems like a waste of money. It seems semi misguided that as a recruiter she would want to signal wealth but she probably knows better.

I would just look at all the same brands I would if I was looking for a male watch. Something like hamilton/tissot/stowa/frederique constant/Christopher ward

What about a Tag Heuer? She'll probably prefer quartz over automatics.

I would not approach this from the perspective of buying a Male watch. You don't want to be in the position of having to explain to your wife the watch you got her because she doesn't recognize the brand.

If you had a bit larger budget I would go for something like a Chanel J12 or a Chopard Happy Diamonds. There is a used Happy Diamonds on watchuseek for 2200 but I would definitely research seller.

You can also consider something like this which has loads of brand recognition

I also like the suggestion of a Tag quartz.

She is getting it to signal to clients. It all depends on what her clients will e impressed by. Obviously the best solution would be a watch that appeals to both watch knowledgable and watch ignorant people, which may be hard in the 2k range but I think hamilton and tissot do best. Tag seems like a good option.

It all depends on what she means by brand. If she just wants to signal wealth or signal class/knowledge.

Very few clients are going to be watch experts. If I ran in to a women's Tissot in the wild especially if it was quartz, I wouldn't think much at all.

Besides, signaling to clients is the reason she gave but I would be willing to wager that its combined with a need for something pretty and signaling to girlfriends.

Which is why I originally just said get a Michael Kors and save a thousand.

You have to approach this from a different angle. If your wife is at brunch and her annoying friend says something like " look at this Michael Kors my boyfriend got me!! Wasn't it your bday last week ? What did your husband get you?"

You don't want her to have to explain your gift.

There is nothing wrong with getting the Michael Kors and saving the rest and that's what I would recommend if the budget was 400 but the budget is 2k so I gave the best 2k recommendation I can think of.

If somebody wanted to get a small sports car for his wife and had a 60k budget I'm not going to say buy a Miata save 30k even though that would be a great choice.

+1 to getting her a Miata instead of a watch.

Also, Tag Heuer.

My aunt wore a Tag until she got a mega promotion and then got a DJ as a christmas present from her husband. Her husband still wears his Tag. Strong brand recognition, they look good, and they are actually a pretty decent watch. Underrated by the community IMO

you could also go omega:

http://www.jomashop.com/omega-watch-23110306002001.html

just a lil over $2k, but cartier would be highly recognizable
http://www.jomashop.com/cartier-rond...-w6701004.html

either way, definitely go quartz if all she cares about it the recognition

mainstream recognizable brands for women over the MK price point means you're looking at rolex, cartier, gucci, tag (in this order IMO).. i think gucci/tag would get more laymen recognition than omega..

at the $2K level, if you can squeeze a cartier (like the one listed above) that'd be optimal IMO

Think that particular Cartier is the most optimal pick.

I dig the Cartier, but I have no idea how roman numerals are perceived in the female fashion world. You can also stop by the grocery store and leaf through Elle/Cosmopolitan and see what watches advertise, get one of those.

Luckily my gf is on Pinterest, so I just creep her account to see what she's into.
