I have to admit that Ali was larger than life, but as a kid I watched Griffith killing Paret in the ring, and then decided that boxing was stupid. I've also gambled all my life, but have never made a bet on a fight. Too much business.

I remember the first ali-frazier fight. Even in junior high everyone was betting on it.

In his prime he was unbelievable. He had an unbelievably quick right. I don't think I've ever seen anyone since with that sort of speed. He was amazing to watch.

But I don't think he ever gets enough credit for being a tough sonofabitch. He had some of the most brutal battles ever and he never backed down. In those days they fought 15 rounds and it was all out war.

I believe pay per view was the death knell for boxing.

Ali rumbled through life. Now he's gone. He will never be forgotten.
Those weren't his last two fights, and he didn'the retire in 1979 (at least not for long). He famously fought and lost to Larry Holmes in 1980. He was a mere shell of his former self and looked pitiful in the ring. He had one final fight in 1981 - another loss - to Trevor Berbick.

But those last two fights did nothing to tarnish his legacy. He will forever be The Greatest.

R.I.P.

I really try my best to not speak bad about the dead, but Ali did a lot of things I found distasteful. I'll leave it at that.

Larry Holmes was the Rodney Dangerfield of heavyweight champs. No respect. Not that I liked him either, but you gotta feel for him a little.

Ali got the first 15 minutes of Meet the Press yesterday. That means he was a big deal, a really big deal. Clearly one of the most famous people of the last century.

Theresa Saldana, 61.

Another youngish death.

Probably best known for the tv series The Commish and for being Joe Pesci's wife in Raging Bull.

RIP Gordie Howe - Redwings great

One of the best old time hockey players ever and one of the toughest sobs to ever play. The Gordie Howe hat trick was defined as a goal, an assist and a fight.

RIP the greatest player to ever lace up a pair of skates. Gordie Howe was Mr. Hockey ; both Detroit and all of Canada mourn this one of a kind. Here are some great recollections of his life :

Rip Mr Howe. A gentleman by every account.
Set the standard for off ice conduct that remains the ideal for hockey players today.

Known for his hat trick, but only had 2 in his career.

Ann Morgan Guilford died. She played the neighbor, Millie Helper, on The Dick Van Dyke Show. Later she was the grandma on The Nanny.

I didn't watch The Nanny much, so Millie Helper is definitely the role that comes to mind when I see her face or hear her voice. In fact, rather than her role on The Nanny, the second thing that comes to mind are her appearances in a couple of classic Seinfeld episodes set in Del Boca Vista.

Actor Anton Yelchin, 27, died in a car accident today. He was the star of Green Room, Like Crazy, Terminator Salvation, and he played Checkov in the Star Trek reboot movie series.

What a shame...liked him a lot.

The accident happened around 1:10 am at Yelchin's home in Studio City, LAPD spokeswoman Jenny Houser told THR."It appears he momentarily exited his car and it rolled backward, causing trauma that led to his death," said Houser.

Yelchin was on his way to meet his friends for rehearsal and when he didn't respond, his friends went to check on him. The actor was found pinned between the car and the fence and a mailbox pillar.

wtf??

I don't often get upset at celebrity deaths but this one hurts because he was so talented and so young. Only heard good things about the guy. He never mailed it in, either. A movie like Odd Thomas shouldn't work, but his charm elevates the film. Love him in Green Room as well.
