Another day, another legend passes...RIP Cicely Tyson, 96.

Tyson had a decades long on-again/off-again relationship with Miles Davis, and it was her profile on the cover of the 1967 album Sorcerer

Yeah, well I've lost all confidence after Luke Rhinehart.

Did I miss something? Is there any particular reason we're revisiting Mac Davis's contributions 4 months after he died? (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

The reason is that I suck at this thread. Apologies.

No. After the Dice Man debacle, we've decided it's better to be safe than sorry.

Hilton Valentine, lead and rhythm guitarist for The Animals, died a couple of days ago at the age of 77. Will always be remembered for one of the most iconic guitar riff openings of any song in history.

”On stage your job as actor is to present and show the story by your behavior, body language, and vocal work. In film, you musn't. You just have to be.

You are...and it's mostly intuitive. The amount of characterization you do is very minimal. In fact, you try not to act at all. It's actually better that way, and it's taken me years to learn that.”

The oldest actor to win an Oscar.

RIP

The variance in the roles he took was just staggering.

I didn’t see much of his later work but here are some fave Plummer performances.

Wind Across The Everglades
Inside Daisy Clover
Triple Cross
The Royal Hunt Of The Sun
(when I was a kid and my mom told me that was the same guy as the Captain from The Sound Of Music!)
Waterloo
The Man Who Would Be King
The Silent Partner
Dragnet
The Insider
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Nicholas Nickleby
All The Money In The World

His auto-biography is a real treat.

remember back when you were a kid and your parents would have a reaction to someone dying, yet you had never heard of them and didn't understand the nostalgia they were experiencing?

I'm going to rewatch Beginners again, in tribute.

I think about this every time I open this thread

I also think about how few professional sportsmen are younger than me.

I still remember the first one I recognised as being younger than me (Wayne Rooney)

I always understood the nostalgia, but I don't understand people who say they cry when someone they have never met dies. Maybe that's just my cold heart speaking.

Given how many people cry over the death of fake characters that they're watching on a flat tv screen, computer monitor, or movie theater die, are you really surprised that they also cry when real people they've never met die?

Yes, still surprised. I think novels, movies, and poems, even a few songs, strike something different in us.

But I freely admit it might just be me.
