Well I went there and read the original reference from 2009. It just says he found the nephews' porn to be of low quality though, not too tame. That's not nearly as interesting.

Was just about to post for Chick Corea, but Phat Mack beat me to it by 30 minutes. You all move too fast around here.

Not a huge fan of that tame style of jazz or his music, but I acknowledge his massive influence on music.

Recently heard an interview with Corea. Sounded like a really cool person, someone you'd genuinely enjoy spending time with.

Not real familiar with his music, I'll have to remedy that.

I've noticed that there almost seems to be a competition here to see who can post deaths first, to the point where some will race here to simply post a link or embed a tweet with no other comment other than perhaps an R.I.P.

I can read obits anywhere, I come to this thread to read about the personal thoughts posters have about the individuals who died.

Duly noted, however The Lounge has longtime forum regs and we are a bit pokey at times. Don't read too much into that, it's meant to be jovial "ah shucks," not particularly serious (at least as i used it).

However, I did share my thoughts about his impact. I feel he and Jobim helped shift jazz into modern jazz. Larger than life characters in that genre, for sure.

Maybe you are the type who still gets the newspaper and likes to read about yesterday's news. If I come across a popular one, I post it for you guys benefit and discussion can happen.

Try reading what I wrote again, perhaps a little slower next time, because you completely misunderstood what I was saying. I'm normally already aware of the news of some celebrity's death when I come to this thread. In fact, that's exactly why I've come here. I'm interested if anyone here has any anecdote or comment about how that celebrity or that celebrity's death affected them.

I have absolutely no problem with you rushing here to post a link to a tweet or a news story about someone's death in order to lay claim to being first to do so. However, it would be a more interesting post if you also included your thoughts about the person as well.

On second thought, knowing your posting history on this board and others, maybe it wouldn't.

Gravity's Rainbow is impossible to read.

That was my experience. I tried several times, never got very far and always ended up with a headache.

It's not saying Thomas Pynchon is dead anywhere else on the internet.

I liked Gravity's Rainbow, but couldn't read Mason Dixon.

Could be another of those Pynchon jokes.

I got quite a bit from GR after reading it three or four times over 30 years...quite like Ulysses which Hugh Kenner compared it to. In the 70s I read somewhere that Pynchon wrote the first draft in the mountains of Mexico high on Mushrooms...he was later quoted saying on the rewrite even he couldn’t figure out some parts.
